I used to have one of those but as our production increased it became a bit like hard work 😓! We eventually motorized, now if only the motorized one weren’t so heavy! My wife designed me a stainless steel hopper and had it fabricated so we can crush directly into five gallon buckets and then carry them down to the winery. The hopper sits on a pair of saw horses and I put the machine onto the hopper.

I got this one used at CFP Winemakers in Pittsburgh. You can get a nearly identical one from More Wine online. I will put a link in the video description.

Hello. I bought a used one of these. Appears to be the exact same model as yours, green with stainless hopper. Mine had no manufacturer information on it and the seller didn't know. It is a Marchisio or Inoitalia? Do you know if the rollers are adjustable to make a smaller gap? Just finished using it for the first time for my harvest. Did about 300 pounds in no time at all. My only complaint is the gap seems to big and some grapes didn't even get squished! Thanks for your time.

      Marchisio is Chinese

Our destemmer is in hand. Unfortunately, due to COVID, it took a Looong time for them to ship, and it arrived after we had already dealt with the last of the grapes....just in time to store it until next year.

Ah man, that's a bummer. Could also be due to the surge in demand this time of year. Seems like it is really easy to get wine equipment any other time, then everything goes on backorder around August and September

Where can I get one of those bins that the crushed grapes are falling into?

That is just a big tote like you would get at target or Walmart. It is technically not food grade plastic but for the five minutes the the grapes spend in it, I don't think it will be a problem. I would use one of the translucent ones rather than the colorant added ones so you are basically just dealing with a general purpose polypropylene or polyethylene which most food grade storage containers are made of.

@@TheHomeWinemakingChannel Thanks! 5 minutes of searching Amazon for "food grade tote" popped something right up. I just ordered one of these machines.... It's all my neighbor's fault. Well a couple lots away. Some lowlife moved in and started keeping bees! And so this year I have more grapes than I know what to do with :). Also plums. And quince. And apples. And figs. Blackberries. Goji berries. Persimmons. And other stuff that I forget. My wife just spent 8 hours today destemming grapes by hand. So far I've put up 37 gallons of wine....

Lol. I also have two beekeeper neighbors and am loaded with fruit. Everything is well pollonated. I have these "pawpaw" fruit trees which are notoriously difficult to pollonate but my trees are always loaded with fruit. Just need to watch your step big-time when walking around in bare feet.

Destemmer >>>> Crusher, if you're reading this, don't waste your money on a crusher, buy a destemmer even if it's expensive, it will save you plenty of time

A crusher destemmer doesn't actually juice the grapes. You need to run them through a wine press for that. The "crusher" pops the grapes which replaces the stomping people would do in the old days, and the "destemmer" auger and grate separate the crushed grapes from the stems. What you are left with is a slurry of skins, seeds, and juice which would be fermented to make red wine, then pressed. Or in the case of white grapes, it would be pressed immediately after the crusher destemmer and fermented in juice form with no skins/seeds.
