- I bring you maple leaf sugar cookies! I'm back for another one of my (now signature??) shapes series! This time it's all about maple leaves! This set is a nod to my Vermont roots 🍁
As always, I had so much fun playing around with different textures and techniques! I must admit this set had more bloopers than usual, but that’s the beauty of this kind of set. I let my imagination run wild, try a whole bunch of different things and only keep the ones that worked out. I love giving myself permission to “fail” ☺️ Which one is your favorite??

This set is a nod to my Vermont roots 🍁 Born and raised in Vermont, I’m a loyal maple syrup lover and feel truly blessed to have seen so many fall foliage seasons in such a beautiful place. When I was really young my family used to make our own maple syrup. Today, I only buy syrup from our neighbors’ sugar farm (either I bring it back to NYC in my luggage or dad ships it…thank goodness for USPS flat rate boxes 😬).
As always, I had so much fun playing around with different textures and techniques! I must admit this set had more bloopers than usual, but that’s the beauty of this kind of set. I let my imagination run wild, try a whole bunch of different things and only keep the ones that worked out. I love giving myself permission to “fail” ☺️ Which one is your favorite??
Notes on using the powdered Master Elite colors from The Sugar Art:
Use a vanilla royal icing for the best results (however I used my lemon recipe for this set and it worked just fine!)
Activate with water (use back of spoon/spatula to mix/activate before mixing into the icing)
Use a dropper to add water (not a spray bottle! The color will go everywhere!)
Start with a thicker consistency than you ultimately need (since you’ll be adding water to activate); I started with a stiff peak piping consistency
Color to a couple shades lighter than you ultimately need
Allow the colors to DEVELOP for an least 1 hour (overnight is even better)
Once colored to desired shade, allow to sit for a least 15-30 minutes - sometimes “streaks” will appear in this time if you haven’t incorporated the color well enough at the beginning and then you can give the icing another good mix before using

Oh you’ve outdone yourself with this set! The colors are so sophisticated-cool autumn, rather than warm, if that can be a thing. And your playing off the geometric design of the cutter with the icing was really interesting, especially since the first instinct with “leaves” generally would be a more naturalistic design. This was a fresh and fascinating take on autumn leaves!

I lived in Vancouver for two and a half years and apart from the beautiful aesthetics nature bestowed upon real maple leaves, I never saw anything this beautifully creative with maple leaf decorations. You've somehow captured the start, middle and end of Autumn across the range of designs. You're a true artist 🙌🏼

I am genuinely entranced lol, I didn't notice until halfway that my face is so close to the screen. Is the syrup from your neighbours' sugar farm the best you've tasted, or would you say something else you've tasted came close to it? I love all of the designs, and as someone who sometimes stims through touch/texture stuff, I feel like the textures you put on those cookies are very great! (Though I think it's kinda unsanitary to do so lol)
You have the uncanny ability to select the most unique set of color pallets that I would never think to pair together (and that end up looking great together) but also the most complimentary colors.

You do such excellent work. I love your attention to detail with your seasonal and holiday cookies. Will you ever do gingerbread houses or other structures? I would love to see what you would do with cookie buildings, haunted gingerbread ships, spring cookie gardens...
There are a few designs that are a little abstract for my liking but other then that, I could watch your videos for hours on end. It's like ASMR to me.

Normally it would be weird for me to look at someone's artwork and the only way that comes to mind to describe how much I love it is to say I want to put it in my mouth, but with these that's not weird at all, they look so incredibly edible and the techniques are so transfixing to watch
I love the knitted texture ones especially, it looks like such a good texture to just touch and then bite into (no I have not ever tried to eat a knitted sweater why do you ask)
