- We recap our Alaska Wild RV Adventure from this summer with our full itinerary. 169 Days of travel and nearly 16,000 miles in total. From start to finish this was one epic road trip. We'll have 4 video's on our Alaska travels this summer which will include our expenses, favorite experiences, the bad ones and the roads traveled.
We tell you how to get our itinerary to download for your personal use and enjoyment. in the video.
We hope you enjoy this summary of our trip and more epic shots of this summer.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to TH-cam channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:
Epidemicsound.com
Tracks:
World Joy by Saira Ridley
The Greatest Quest by Adriel Fair

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.
BIg Truck Big Travels video's are based on our personal experience and not meant nor portrayed as experts in anything we do or say. It's our life on the road and our opinions are not meant to be construed as advice. Enjoy life on the road.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We hope your holiday season is bright and filled with joy. Thank you for being part of our community.

I truly appreciate all the hard work y'all put into bringing your amazing trip to us . Alaska and Canada are truly beautiful and the sunsets were breathtaking. Seeing the foxes, wolves , otters and orcas were my favorites . Thank you so much . 😊
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching the channel.
You both put in so many hours and a lot of work to bring us these awesome pictures. I just enjoyed seeing all of them.
Thank you so much!
Wow, even the recap was epic. I can still see the excitement in you guys with all the stops and adventures. You are now Alaskan experts! So, what is next, what can top that? What I liked is that one of your favorite overnight spot was “fox lake” a pullout but with unexpected views and visitors. That is what RVing is all about. Can’t wait to see the next video, Happy Thanksgiving !
Thank you. Next year will be some great epic stuff for certain. National Parks, desert landscapes, lakes and mountains...what more could you want? LOL. Glad you're along on the journey.
Yeah!!!!more, more❤
😆 🤣 coming this week... if I can finish it!
I am so glad you are doing these recaps of your Alaskan trip. I was actually sad when you came back because I loved traveling Alaska with you even if it was only through your TH-cam videos. Plus, I don't think I'll ever get tired of the Arctic jokes.
Oh, Julie...you are a "sick woman" if you love my Arctic jokes! LOL...actually, it means you have good taste! We have a few more Alaska recap video's and we're excited that you are still enjoying them. Thank you for watching.
Well, you two have done such a great job taking us on tour that I don’t have to pay all that money to go now? 😂

Great info. And we get to enjoy the trip again. Artic wonderful 😂
Glad you enjoyed it...again! LOL. We hope everyone gets some good info out of it. Thank you.
Have been watching your videos with interest as our first trip was in 1988. Been going up since. You guys have shown Alaska better than any one else on the tube that I have seen. We stayed in a number of places you stayed. Although we don’t really plan where we are going and don’t use GPS we enjoy the scenery just as much as you did. We like to explore the towns ( especially Homer ) where we stay as long as we can. We also like Haines (can’t believe you missed the Hammer Museum) great fun. Maybe will see you up in Alaska next year, keep up the great videos.
Thanks! We saw the Hammer Museum in Haines on our first trip in 2017. We also did the fast ferry over to Juneau. Glad you enjoyed it. Next time we'll stay in Homer and base out of there for more trips.
Glad you are doing videos about the trip, the itinerary you took is pretty awesome.
Thank you. It was epic. Lots of miles!
@@bigtruckbigtravels I checked facebook for the download but only could find a post from back in july. I do not use facebook really so I may have just missed it.
@@Badgerpapa make sure you join our FB group, Big Truck Big Travels, that's where the download is located. Not the FB page by the same name...confusing. Thanks

I sure enjoying reviewing your Alaska trip. I am looking forward to the next 3 videos as well. Your photos and videos are stunning. I’m jealous of the fabulous wildlife photos you took. We definitely are enjoying your recap. Got to join your Facebook group for that interary info. We were hoping to go to Alaska in a few years when I retire and hit 65. What a way to celebrate. Starting to rough out the trip, So far just under 10k miles. Jim
Great start, Jim. I think you're on the right track! Congrats on the future plans. See you on the road! Thanks for watching.

My husband and I are planning our trip this year. Would love to have your itinerary. I sent an email as we don’t have Facebook, but haven’t heard back. Thank you for your time, and keep making your great videos and enjoying the journey.
You should have it now. Thank you
Keep on going guys Love it
Thank you very much. We love to go...so we'll keep on keeping on.
Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
You're very welcome. ☺️
We watched every episode on y'all AK trip. It inspires me to at least get up there and back some day soon. My biggest question is how did the RV do. Be honest, break downs, annoyances, issues, fixes on the road, shop times, etc. When I first saw one of the Thors on a TH-cam review, I knew it was one of the top class C we want to look at when we get to retire soon.
That will be in the last Alaska video. We'll talk about the roads and how did the Thor Class C perform. Thank you
We are parked just down from you guys in the Blue Riverstone. Tried to say hey to you guys but you’re never outside. Love your video’s
Thank you. LOL...We've been busy with projects, getting ready for Thanksgiving, video production and getting caught up from Alaska. If you see the Smart outside come by and say "hi". Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great holiday season.
I love hearing your insight! And the why's. Also I am with Sondra on seeing wildlife! I am going back to Iceland to visit my family and see more of the country, I plan to do a whale watching trip! Ocra's are found in the ocean around Iceland. That is where Free Willy was born! I want to go to Alaska one of these days! In Iceland there is a place that has like a boor tide. Your sunset picture was stunning! Glad you made it to the Artic!
Thanks, Kris. Your trip sounds fantastic. We'd love to get to Iceland one of these days.
Wow you guys did the best and most thorough job of traveling AK and the YT in 2023. I watched several others and you did it best.
Loved the Dalton, Denali, McCarthy and Dempster episodes. You guys did the tough stuff! More wildlife and attractions as well. Brooks, Seward and glaciers! A must watch for anyone planning an AK adventure.
Bueno! Hoping our paths cross one day!
Thank you, Marty. We did touch a lot of Alaska that's for sure. We'll be back but appreciate your comments. Hope the snow lets up in Anchorage at some point!
@@bigtruckbigtravels haha yeah me too! I’m in Mesa for Thanksgiving staying in the RV. Played golf
Today so there is life somehow!
Very good video and very informative. I still cant get my head wrapped around the idea of bringing a 5th wheel up there but maybe that's me trying to avoid damage etc. Your travels have in my opinion raised the bar on adventure and content. it is nice for a change to have timely content that is not 3 months old and very different.
Thank you. We try to remain relatively current and show what's next. In other words, we're not in Italy this week, then next week in an RV in California and then hawking some RV goods that you can't live without! LOL,
How about you guys dock this rig on a roll-on roll-off ship and unload in Rotterdam the Netherlands and off-grid it all the way to Nordkinn Peninsula (Nordkinnhalvøya) Norway
LOL, Hans, now that would be an epic adventure...space may be tight in a few places...we'd probably be the talk of Norway! Thanks for the suggestion!
I love this channel, thank you sir
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
@@bigtruckbigtravels I watch all your broadcasts from tv so that I can also feel your journey...
Happy Thanksgiving! Wow, that was a great recap. Can't wait to see parts 2 - 4. Now that the trip is over, are you enjoying the non travel time or are you restless and ready to move onto the next adventure?
Thank you and happy holidays to you. We're using the time to get caught up on a few projects. Probably in a week or so we'll be getting a little "hitch itch".
Great re-cap thanks, hey btw 9 more vlogs and you reached 100th!!!!
Thank you, Harold. Wow! That's hard to believe we'll be at 100 soon.
Will you be doing a vid or short on how you kept your water lines from freezing during your trip? Thanks@@bigtruckbigtravels
@@haroldb5569 we did not have that many nights below freezing. The furnace does a nice job of keeping it warm inside. Thank you
Happy thanksgiving 😊
Happy holidays to you and your family and hope that there are bright and cheery days ahead.
Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great holiday season.
Really enjoy the videos. We are new owners of a small Class C and really enjoy the tips you are giving out. One thing I would like to see is a video where you detail the technology tools you are using. GPS, Cameras, Software and so on. How do you prepare the itineraries for the trips? We are planning a 2 month journey in the western US next May / June. Trying to get ready for that :)
Thanks, Marc. We really start with where do we want to go (what region) and what sights to see (we enjoy National parks and such). Google is great for general info and what to do in an area. Campendium and iOverlander are great tools for where to stay along with FB too and a TH-cam search. We use a Garmin RV GPS along with our cameras (Nikon 5500, GoPro Hero8, DJI Mini 2 drone, Samsung S20 ultra, S22 and a Lumix 300). I don't use a route planning tool as I like to do it myself but there are a lot out there which are getting better and better with AI.
Looking to find the connection you use on the side of curiosity I believe it for your Starlink , I see at 10.03 on video
Yes. It's via the Smart Plug ethernet and cable connector housing. I modified the Starlink cable to accept and RJ45 connector.
Really enjoyed your videos. Looked(11-28-23) on your Facebook page and do not see the list of places you stayed. Where do I find this information?
Please be sure you are on our FB Group, Big Truck Big Travels... and not the page. The excel spreadsheet is up there. Thank you
Happy Thanksgiving!!
It was quite a scenic trip, thanks for recording all the footage and sharing.
When you say Orion is to big for the trip, how big is to big to go where to went? 40ft? 45ft?
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it. Orion is 46'6" plus the truck (Voyager) we're 73 feet long in total. We'll take it up there next time but we wanted to explore a few places first. I hope you have a great holiday season.
If you put Artemus on an open trailer you’ll be able to back up just fine. When you’re at a campground you can hook the trailer to Artemus and move it that way.
True but then we may still have to find a place for the trailer. Overflow lot? Empty parking space? It's definitely an option. Thank you.
True story! I just figure you kill two birds with one stone, you can back up and keep miles off Artemus’ drivetrain and bearings!
@bigcamracing219 very true...two huge pluses!
We have the same RV, how has your slide performed for you guys? Does it get stuck often, and you have to reset the slide a lot? Love the adventures you guys take us on; keep sharing!
Aloha and Mahalo for watching the channel. Pau Hana for us now 8 years. Love the Class C, very maneuverable and good fuel economy. Hate the suspension. The slides are very fickle. Had to reset the bedroom 4 times but it's good now. Must be level to avoid issues. We reworked a few plumbing issues but it's good now.
Great series guys! we're headed from AZ to AK on May 1... might be an odd question, Did you find the axe a necessity (in Canada)?
Yes. I used the maul at each camp spot we stayed in the Yukon since their free firewood is in large sections. It would still burn but it's more enjoyable split. The maul is not a necessity but I wouldn't travel up there without it....unless you don't like campfires! LOL. AZ to AK sounds like fun on May 1. Enjoy. Take it easy through Destruction Bay.
appreciate it. safe travels!
Nice review. When are you going back to Alaska in your HDT?
Thank you. Probably in about 4 years...lots of places to in the lower 48.
What drone are you guys using? And do you recommended it? You have great pics
Thank you. This is my third drone from a third different company and I like it the best...not even close. It's a DJI Mini 2. I like this because it is compact and easy to store plus it's very easy to fly. The newer versions have obstacle avoidance which I will get with the next one. It can handle winds up to about 18 mph but once you get up to about 20 mph then it becomes unstable and shouldn't be flown. There are larger, heavier drones but I like this size because it fits with what we want out of a drone (compact, easy to fly since space is at a premium in an RV).
Hey! Since David saved money on the sight seeing flight maybe that should go toward the boat??
I agree completely! Thank you. 😃
@@bigtruckbigtravels just trying to be helpful!
1 🎉😊
Woohoo! #1! Awesome. Thank you and hope you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great holiday season.
Can you tell me what road you took to go to the Arctic Circle? I’m thinking about going from Fairbanks up to the arctic Circle with our 35 foot fifth wheel. I have to check the mileage.
From Fairbanks, it's the Dalton Highway or also called the Haul Road. About 110 miles from Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle. 55 miles of that is gravel roads. Take it slow, pull over for semi trucks and you should have no issues. Another 360 miles past the Arctic Circle lies Prudhoe Bay.
What happened to your travel friends they were in the first few weeks of the trip then they just disappeared. Nothing happened to them right?
Don't know. They were some people who we met at a rally and they were afraid to go to Alaska. They asked if they could tag along on our trip. Once we crossed the border, they said "adios" and we never heard from them again. Kind of surprised us but whatever... we had a great trip.
Do you guys travel with a full tank of water when you are in Alaka or anywhere else
Yes, always. A 50% tank is the same as empty! 😆
Do you have a map that shows you're trip
We do but we'll have to get it to a manageable size to share it. Not sure how we'll do it. We may transfer to a Google map. Working on it.
where next europe maybe?
One of these days....we'd love to campervan Europe. Who knows? Out west next year. Thank you and glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great holiday season.
