Looking Good. I've got to say, I have no complaints about anything I've seen you doing yet & that is saying a lot!. Your doing it the best way with what you got & doing it right.
I picked your channel up when you kicked off with Mockingbird. Working my way through your back series, love your no nonsense approach. Cheers from down under.
I have been telling others I know to check out your Channel even though I am not building a Firebird or Camaro or even a GM LOL but I love your work and videos, keep the faith Brother! Long Live VVG!
I’ve known Firebirds all my life . A aunt of mine had a 68 . It was torquiose with parchment interior . It was a 350 . An uncle of mine had a 68 formula . It was British racing green with black interior & black vinyl roof . This autumn bronze is beautiful colour . I don’t remember this colour . I’m really enjoying this videos & dying to see the end result . John, you have a great knack for put your ideas out . Thank you
You have had a few nice Firebirds in the family for sure. Autumn bronze was a popular color but for some reason a lot of cars didn’t keep the original color. Most went red over the years. I did get the car painted and looks great. Video is on the way.
The great pumpkin looks great Jon! I love that color. The first bird (67)I fell in love with was the same color. That purchase didn’t happen, but I ended up with my 69. So things worked out. Keep up the great work buddy!
I love watching your videos. I am waiting on the rest of the paint now. Excited to see the video getting the panels back on and lining up the gaps again. Please show how you do the striker for the door, if you paint the door hinges after the doors are installed (without the fenders) to get that side of them, and what you do with the underside of the hood.
Looks good! I did enjoy the music that you chose, Paint Gun and The Compressors. Tell us more about your compressor setup and gun. Thanks for the video.
When you said you were going to paint it Autumn Bronze I rolled my eyes and thought it would look terrible. I was wrong, and it looks beautiful. Beyond being a great color, it will be a unique factory color that will set it apart. Nice job Jon.
So i notice no gun pressure dial...and your compressor going off..😮 low pressure can make metalic bunch up. ...I sure love doing body and paint..very satifying❤
@VVG Firebird Restoration Station I put new door window roof seals in it it still had the original hard as a rock and breaking off in chunks seals. That's how I saw the white age cracked paint. Original headliner was gone but still had original pieces of the white headliner under some of the trim pieces. So I figure it was originally a green with a white painted top and white interior. Nice looking car when new I bet.
nice work jon. really look good would love tro get back on my car but have a surgery planned for the 29th ill be out of commission for 6 weeks but hope to fallow along
The car is looking great and I love this color. Great work explaining on how to hide the tape lines with some of the body features on the car, thats really slick. I did have on question tho, are you paining in sandals? lol. I saw in the begining you had some on and I find myself doing lots of work in my crocs and it made me laugh a bit. Keep up the great work.
Yes sir, flip flop or slides is a must. My garage was a mess from sanding and to prevent tracking it into the house I kick my shoes off so the miss’s don’t throw me outside permanently. Lol.
I typically match my primer to my final color. If I am painting a car white I use a white sealer, if am going a dark color like black I use a black primer. In your case if sting gray is dark a black primer Would be ideal. If it’s light I would go with the gray primer under it.
Hi Jon, Watching this video again. A rerun. :) My questions are what spray gun are you using to paint the Bird? Is the gun LVLP or HVLP? 1.3mm tip? Down in the comments you said 40psi so I'm guessing it's a HVLP spray gun. Now your compressor. Is it a 60 gal 5HP machine? What type of regulator and water/oil separator do you have at the compressor? Lastly do you have any experience with the LVLP guns like the R500 and it's variants? Thanks Buddy and Happy New Year.
Yes HVLP 1.3 tip for base and clear. The compressor is 60 gallon 220v 5hp. As for water separator I have one of those very basic ones right on the tank that I barely crack the drain while painting. Then at the gun inlet I use one of those small plastic inline disposable filters. So with that said I should have all kinds of water and contaminants in the paint but somehow I get very lucky I guess so I keep going at it this way. I also try to paint early morning about 65 degrees and very low humidity in the early spring before the bugs wake up. Someday I will upgrade to a better gun but with so many choices and I am so cheap I don’t know which way to go.
Awesome Thanks for sharing the information! Your system/method WORKS!! I would not change a thing. KISS formula right? I hope you don't change anything because 95% of us DIY'er will NEVER have a quarter million dollar spray booth or a $900 spray gun or a $3,000 Scroll Air Compressor!!
I had a friend of mine help with the paint he owns a body shop and even with the best pricing he could do just for the Color and reducer it was around $500
My paint gun i bought from the MAC tool guy. It’s the econo coat gun. My compressor is a 60 gallon 220v twin Cyl single stage. On previous cars I have had great success with my little 30 gallon compressor with a $25 paint gun from a swap meet. What I am saying is good results are possible without spending silly money.
Quick question for you. I bought the same hinges that you did because mine were toast. When you painted around the door edges, the hinges got sprayed with the sealer and paint just like everything else. Did you scuff or sand the hinges before you sprayed?
I have to ask. Have you ever considered doing the painting on a rotisserie? I know your channel is about DIY in your own garage but some things might be worth doing out of the garage IF the budget will allow. The reason I ask about doing it this way would be ZERO paint lines-seams.
Yes I have, if it was a solid color I would definitely be prone to do it but being metallic I really feel with my painting abilities I want to paint it together to help color matching
Great question. The answer is all paint guns are a little different I will tell you what I set it and and for the best results with the gun you are using might need a little tweaking. On my gun you will see a pressure gauge. I will adjust the air pressure so it reads 40 psi while pulling the trigger and stays steady.
The orange one in the driveway? Yes, it’s actually a mess and next in line to Get an overhaul. If it was something special I would definitely cover it up.
I used Ditzler code 60517. I finally found someone that would do a spray out for me as well and compared it to the paint on the inside of trunk lid almost spot on just a tinniest bit off.
Hello my Firebird brother I will say you have done a amazing job that bird is going to come out looking better then it did back in 68
Thank friend. Now we have a close race to the finish line you have your bird back in the garage
Really a great color. I like how the bottom of the rocker flows into a great looking undercarriage. Top notch all the way 👍
Thanks 👍 the little extra time is worth the final results.
wow. That color really pops! Thanks Jon!
It does!
Looking Good. I've got to say, I have no complaints about anything I've seen you doing yet & that is saying a lot!. Your doing it the best way with what you got & doing it right.
Thanks!!!! The goal was to get great results without buying or using a lot of expensive tools. I appreciate you watching and your feedback.
I picked your channel up when you kicked off with Mockingbird. Working my way through your back series, love your no nonsense approach. Cheers from down under.
Thanks! Too much to do and never enough time to play cars. Appreciate you watching! It helps a lot.
I have been telling others I know to check out your Channel even though I am not building a Firebird or Camaro or even a GM LOL but I love your work and videos, keep the faith Brother! Long Live VVG!
Wow thanks! I definitely appreciate it.
Dude that color is GROWING on me... aughhhhh
You could paint your just like it. And I have practice doing it.

I really like this Color and gonna miss this car when it’s done.
Looking really good, Jon.
Thanks! It’s come along way.
Much appreciate your extra explanation on steps. Glad you went with the factory color, rare and beautiful.
You bet! I think it should stand out when done
I can already tell that car is going to be a knockout! I’m getting excited just watching this! Thanks for sharing
You bet!
I love watching your videos. I am waiting on the rest of the paint now. Excited to see the video getting the panels back on and lining up the gaps again. Coming soon! I will cover just about all that.
You should be excited. It is looking fantastic. Better than new. Keep up the good work.
I am!
Nothing really to add here, just want to say I appreciate the insight of everything you are doing on this channel. You’re doing a phenomenal job
Much appreciated. I enjoy putting these old cars back together
That color is amazing
I really like it and can’t wait to see it outside.
John,,looks pretty amazing to me sir!! 😳👍🏽
Thanks 👍
Wow! That’s gorgeous!
It really is!
Good job Jon !
Thanks!!
Start to look really good
Thanks, it’s really coming together now.
It is great to see some paint on it. It looks very good.
I think so too! Thanks!
Really excited about the finished product!!! That color is awesome.
Same here, I hope to get it painted this week.
I would not be spraying with cars in the driveway!! Yikes! Love the process; looking great.
I am with you 100% if that GTO was a nicer car you would not see it. That car is on the list to go thru the VVG process and get a total overhaul
Love the channel even if I’m working on a 68 Camaro. Super stoked to see yours rolling
Thanks, the Camaro has a lot in common with the firebirds so it’s very relatable.
Love your videos, and that paint color is gorgeous! Might have to add that to my list of choices for my bird. If I ever get on it...
Thank you! No time better then the present to save another bird.
The undercarriage shots are amazing looking up at the orange rocker panel.
Fine work 👍👍😎
It’s a great combination, and really pops
Looks good! I did enjoy the music that you chose, Paint Gun and The Compressors. Tell us more about your compressor setup and gun. Thanks for the video.
I will do that, I have an old MAC tools Econ coat gun and it just works great for me.
When you said you were going to paint it Autumn Bronze I rolled my eyes and thought it would look terrible. I was wrong, and it looks beautiful. Beyond being a great color, it will be a unique factory color that will set it apart. Nice job Jon.
I have yet to see another autumn bronze car in person and didn’t realize how neat the color was and can’t wait to see this outside in the sun
Looks great!!!
Thanks, really coming together now.
That is a nice color! It would look good on my GT-37, with ivory interior! Nice work my friend!
I think so too!
Looking fantastic, great color !
Thank you!
Good show ! I d like to do my 71 Lemans this way😊JR
It was a successful idea. Finished painting the car yesterday and no visible tape lines.
So i notice no gun pressure dial...and your compressor going off..😮 low pressure can make metalic bunch up. ...I sure love doing body and paint..very satifying❤
I have a pressure gauge on the inlet on my gun and I try to keep it at 40 while pulling the trigger.
My 68 still has the original white paint up inside the window channel. The original main color is a green color
Interesting what’s hiding that most people miss

I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Hey you hit 5K! Congratulations!
Yay! Thank you!
So how close is this color to you favorite Mountain Dew? 😂 Looking great! Thanks for sharing!
You know now that I think about it…..very 🤣🤣

@@VinylVillageGarage lol. Love it
Should I use black high build primer for a medium solid gray color called Sting Gray?
I typically match my primer to my final color. If I am painting a car white I use a white sealer, if am going a dark color like black I use a black primer. In your case if sting gray is dark a black primer
Would be ideal. If it’s light I would go with the gray primer under it.

WOW Beautiful Man!! Did you purchase the paint online? Was the paint in the $500-$600 range for the gallon?
I had a friend of mine help with the paint he owns a body shop and even with the best pricing he could do just for the Color and reducer it was around $500
Very good job what brand of gun do you use and how big of a compressor ?
My paint gun i bought from the MAC tool guy. It’s the econo coat gun. My compressor is a 60 gallon 220v twin Cyl single stage.

Yes scuffed with a scotchbrite pad then wiped down and cleaned them. I don’t strip the edp off
@@VinylVillageGarage Thank you so much.

I’m a definite newbie. So when setting up the paint gun, what psi is you using with the gravity fed sprayer ?

❤❤❤❤❤💪💪💪💪😎
Thanks
@VVG Firebird Restoration Station it's going to look awesome 👌
I appreciate your videos Jon !
Looking good !
Anytime, this bird is really coming back nicely
Hi Is there a chance I could get the paint info you used every thing i find is to gold or to Orange, Thanks
Yup just sent it to your email. It’s a super close match to the original mix almost not detectable between the spray out and original sample.
@@VinylVillageGarage Thank you Sir!
Over spray on the other cars?
The orange one in the driveway? Yes, it’s actually a mess and next in line to
Get an overhaul. If it was something special I would definitely cover it up.
I haven't read all the comments in the back but what's the paint code number on that bc8 paint
I used Ditzler code 60517. I finally found someone that would do a spray out for me as well and compared it to the paint on the inside of trunk lid almost spot on just a tinniest bit off.
