We got kicked off state land years ago for riding motorcycles, the DNR said we were disturbing the environment, we were on a two track but we were told not to come back. The following year the whole area was clear cut, we could not have wreaked that kind of damage with a thousand motorcycles. I think it is B.S. that state land is so protected unless you are a logger.
To be fair, sometimes logging or controlled burns is necessary for the long term heath of a habitat. Old growth needs to be removed as time goes on to promote new growth and maintain biodiversity. Whereas blitzing ORV’s through wildlife areas has no possible benefits for wildlife.

They need to get rid of some of the DNR officers to cut costs. A few years ago an officer moved into the town I lived in at the time. He literally IMMEDIATELY started harassing the people there. Ticketed my neighbor for not wearing a helmet while riding his 4 wheeler down our low traffic dirt road. Ticketed and charged one family who saved a fawn whose mother died with a felony because they fed the baby deer and had it in a pen on their property to keep it safe until it was big enough to set free. They had had it for less than a week. He used to drive around looking for ways to ticket people. My husband got a misdemeanor ticket for a fire we had on our property (where we didn’t need a burn permit nor was there a burn ban at the time). Charged him with something we weren’t doing nor could we have done. Fought that stupid ticket/charge for MONTHS because the crooked prosecutor David Leyton wouldn’t just drop it even though my husband presented him with the facts showing the truth. Leyton lied to my husband yo try to get him to plead guilty because the DNR officer wouldn’t show up for court but Leyton said he was going to keep rescheduling the case until my husband pled guilty. Fortunately the judge didn’t allow the case to proceed. DAVID LEYTON IS A LIAR. Do NOT trust that man.
Well, guess I will buy licenses one more year. I was going to hang it all up. Heard they wanted to make us license our kayaks also. Planning on selling my Jackson kayaks when that happens. Remember when a land owner and his invited guests could hunt small game without a license? Pretty soon. They'll make you purchase a license to feed birds
No, I don't remember that one. I do remember farmers could hunt and trap on their farmland without a license, and only one license was required for married couples to fish.
*They'll make you purchase a license to feed birds* ...then they'll ticket you for baiting deer. I got a letter ("formal warning") this Fall, about my "deer bait". My "bait" was observed from a "routine flyover of the area". The date given on said letter was the same day one of my bird feeders got knock or blown off its hook and spilled on the ground.
@@randyharrington2653 Yes. They are far more interested in financial resources than natural resources. Natural resources is just the product they sell so they can take our money.
Hunting in the UP sucks of course there is a loss of revenue the DNR has destroyed the deer herd with their love affair with wolves hunters have had enough of it I really feel sorry for business owners that are suffering because of their mismanagement
Agreed! Such a farce anyways - gas stations all around me still selling PALLETS of deer feed (and I'm in suburban West Michigan). My family doesn't have our own hunting property so we hunt friends' land and public land and follow the rules - even the stupid ones we don't like. So frustrating when we play by the rules and we can see the neighbors feeders and find feed corn in the bellies of the deer and turkeys we harvest.
Can't speak on hunting in the lower peninsula but the NRC is falling to recognize that that logging practices in the early 80s and 90s produced an explosion of deer resulting in more license sales and hunter satisfaction but now those large cuts are not providing food or cover for deer resulting in a population decline and the necessity of keeping the numbers low to prevent over browsing yet they don't want to reduce licenses sales so hunters are not satisfied with what they're harvesting, then throw in wolves and people are just getting disgusted. We will never see hunting like we had 20 to 30 years ago.
Would you guys be willing to do a video in the future about how to get started in duck hunting? I'm considering trying it this year but don't know where are how to start. Thank you
Raising fees without first examining costs in the DNR's budget is not a good budgeting process. I know from my work in government that there are ways to cut costs first and then consider increases in fees, but they should be done incrementally, not huge increases all at once. It's not the public's fault they waited so long to increase fees. In my opinion charge the out of state people more to hunt, fish, and use our nice campgrounds. Lots of people travel to Michigan to use our resources. It's been a few years since we all were made to pay more for hunting licenses by being forced to purchase a base license ie: a small game license that most people never use. This was the first increase. I don't mind paying for it as I would purchase one anyway. Thanks for keeping us up to date on this issue if the bill gets new legs we need to send emails and make phone calls to legislators and the NRC Board Members that we are not happy about this process or about such a large fee increase for taxpayers. Tell them to charge that out-of-state user who comes from states without our bounty of outdoor resources. FYI with the fee increase it may just be cheaper to head to Wisconsin or Minnesota to purchase a license might be cheaper. Both those state's license fees are cheaper than Michigan currently. Both those states offer a Husband and Wife Fishing License which is cheaper than Michigan's to purchase one license.
@@kirbyourenthusiasm For years in Michigan, you paid based on the weight of the vehicle.
