I was on my way to Dawlish Warren in Devon and listening to updates on Radio 5. I was hoping for the best, but fearing the worst. I felt unsettled and my stomach was churning. These days (rightly or wrongly) I always fear the worst. I really hate Sheffield Derby days. Probably a hangover from 1979. The thought of losing to them is just unbearable. It's irrational and something that I have often thought I should have grown out of decades ago. But somehow you don't and I think that in the lead up to a Sheffield Derby I get more anxious now than I did 40 years ago! We went 2-0 up unbelievably quickly, then things seemed to settle down.I remember feeling that if we got to half time with a 2-0 advantage, we would probably win. Their goal just before half time was like a kick in the stomach. Like others have commented in the video, I felt really apprehensive. Fortunately I arrived at my destination just before their equaliser, so was spared all the gut churning emotion of that. We booked into our hotel and I went back to the car to unload some baggage.I turned the car radio on again literally just in time to hear that Duffy had come on and almost immediately scored. Initially I thought it was 3-1, but soon realised it was 3-2. That seemed disappointing, but I soon rationalised that we must have scored straight after their equaliser. I then started to feel a tiny bit optimistic because I thought that having got back to 2-2 and then gone behind again so soon afterwards, that must very deflating. However, I was still quite tense and not wholly convinced we would win. Then in the hotel room I saw the Teletext score turn from 3-2 to 4-2, and that was that. History in the making. The first time that either Wednesday or United has scored 4 goals away from home in a Sheffield Derby. I will always remember that day and will always think fondly of Duffy. That goal was absolutely vital in the context of how the fortunes of that match were changing. It changed the very real possibility of a morale sapping defeat (after being 2 goals up) into a probable victory. It was the decisive moment in ending their period of dominance over us. I
Harry Maguire was interviewed on Leicester TV several years ago and asked about his childhood illegiances. He smiled and said when he was 6 years old his uncle (a Wednesday fan) used to take him to Hillsboro and he admitted there is a photo of him wearing a Sheff Wed shirt, however he said when he was 8 years old her joined the United Academy and that became his club and he said that now he is 100% a Blade and still looks for our results and visits Bramall Lane when he can.
Not to be biased but this is the best away game I have ever been to. I was lucky to see all for goals, JUST! I don't think any other away day will top this one ever! When Duffy scored it was absolutely mental and the piggies were so quiet for the rest of the game! What a day!
Flecks goal still fills me up, what a strike. Duffy's goal fills me up too a new level. Beat them once at 2-0, let em back in 2-2. Then beat em again. OH WHAT A NIGHT...
My dads a Blade and he was messaging me before work about how nervous he was. I’m a Rotherham fan and worked with an all Owls staff so I though I’d keep an eye on it. Went 2-2 and they were giving it large then silence. “What’s happened?” I said “Fucking Duffy has scored” my boss says “Wayyyyyy, unlucky”
I were in the away end to see this. Still got my ticket stub. Even when they equalized I knew we’d go on to win, wasn’t worried at 2-2. Euphoric doesn’t even come close to how it felt, never been a day as good as that for me as a Blade.
The day my future wife found out what it means to being a blade couldn't go to game cause of work had the radio on by the end she had hid in the bedroom she couldn't cope greastest victory
Brought to you by those that were there AND BY THOSE THAT WHERE TRYING TO BE THERE thanks to pc plod and hillbillysboroughs difficulties in letting people in the ground!!!! Wawaw n you know the W stands for w⚓ the Sheffield star even reported it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Still get chills remembering the day! We’re you there? What are your memories? Couldn’t be at the ground? Where did you watch it?

I
Top 3 Blades goals IMO
1. Duffy v pigs
2. Pesch v Forest
3. T.C....a quality goal from a quality player !
