Thanks Rodney, PLEASE do! I just got my license and don't have anyone to show me how ,except lucky YOU ! ;) I Halis are my target but know nothing about ocean fishing. I spent most of my life fishing lakes. I went to the Agua Hedionda lagoon in Carlsbad tonight and tried pretty much what you're doing in this vid, dropshot rig and a white sardine jelly that I already had (No grubs). NO luck for me though. I'll definitely be subscribing to watch out for your vids and I'll check for previous vids. Thanks again!
Rodney Marquez hey Rodney I live in Mission Valley and have been having horrible luck fishing here. Any chance you'd be willing to meet up at the bay and fish sometime?
These videos are great. I just started introducing my 4 kids to fishing in San Diego including my 5 year old twin girls. They love watching your videos and it gets them fired up to catch fish. I love the respectful tone and the appreciation for the beauty of the fish you catch. My 5 year old daughter very seriously told me last night after watching your video for the 10th time that I needed to send you a thumbs up on your channel and to not forget.
My brother and have lived in SD since birth. Over the last year, we've tried to find a hobby that doesn't involve drinking, gambling and strippers. Soo, we started fishing once or twice a week all over SD. Your videos are great and helpful to both of us. Thanks bro
Yo this video is done really well!!! The information you give out is super easy and helpful, plus it is not boring. This was the first video of yours that I’ve seen
Brudda you are the best fishing video creator on the web! No unnecessary screaming, no “fish on!” (Only to be done on boats) and you explain things very well! Great job Rod! Keep up the entertainment for me!
I’ve caught two halibut so far. One with a jig and another with a luckycraft flash minnow 110. I haven’t had luck using grubs or Berkeley mullets but your videos are convincing. I’m gonna keep trying. Thanks for the dope videos!!
Nice shane! I also have caught halibut on those techniques, however never "caught" it on film . Will try filming for that halibut video on the lucky craft
love your vids rodney - short, sweet, informative, good editing, and quirky! thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and passion. i'll try drop shopping up here in long beach.
Hi: I tried your drop shot rig and got a 26 inch halibut on my first cast in the surf I’m hooked and have been catching halibut every time I go thanks for tip 👍 Todd
true true, there is a higher chance for sure , But I dont really get that much trouble. If I know there is rocks, I usually go to another area of ground where its just sandy bottoms
Awesome videos like always, followed your steps on an older video and caught my first hali ever 12in. Then couple months later caught my biggest one that was 21in. So cool to catch and release them!!! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey Rodney. I just reconned that spot the other day. I'm planning on doing some shoreline casting then getting in the kayak to the south side. I've never caught a halibut. Hope I'm as productive as you.
Another great video rodney. I've been fishing the dropshot in the bay like I would for largemouth in the lakes without a lot of success, so your tips really help out.
Just found your site, subscribed. I've been fishing down south in the gulf and everyone is all about that tandem rig with gulp. I've never in my entire life thought, using a drop shot technique. Not that it wouldnt work but I just never thought about it. Imagine how many snagged rigs you would save or even fish certain parts where rock/sand hold some big flounders. Now that I know I'm definately going to try this flounder season. Pure genius Rodney.
thanks for taking the time to share, i'm in Boston and headed to San Diego in April, looking for fishing ideas while i'm visiting , i appreciate your efforts to inform, thanks very much
Do you set the hook immediately once you feel a bite or do you let them bite for a couple of seconds before setting the hook? I'm asking since I usually miss those flounder bites in Texas and halibuts and flounders are quite similar fish.
Damn G. Very nice.. I got a questions for you. I was gonna buy a 10-11 ft rod with baitcaster reel, so many people suggested against it. What’s ur take? Do I have to clean it consistently? Or I’ll be okay as long as I don’t buy a super cheap one
Just got myself a 20 ft boat and live in La Jolla...I'm a photographer that primarily just does whale watching but I inherited some decent rods and I want to learn fishing! Any advice on seabass or dorado?
I really appreciate of your video that helps me catch my first halibut. You are one of my favorite fisherman youtuber . I can't wait for your next new video especially the halibut videos :)
My schedule always shifting, long hours & when I got time I have to do a lot of errands but no worries I'm making a career change just to pursuit happiness....Fishing😃
great vid bro! I just started getting into fishing, your videos are so helpful and simple I appreciate your hard work brother. keep up the good work, good vibes!
Awesome video man. Caught a legal one at Batisquitos lagoon in Carlsbad and let it go as well. Sometimes they are too precious to keep! If you ever go there, try rig your grub weedless as there is a ton of weeds. Fish on!
Love the drop shot as well. we just landed a halibut in our last video up in Carlsbad...... this video was well put together with great info. Keep cranking them out Rodney
Hey Rodney, just moved here and been trying to pin point where to fish. Where exactly is this spot? Or atleast a good area to camp out and test my luck. Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
If I passed my med school final, I should be in SD on the 26! Hopefully I can get a temporary license and try some fishing. I've never cast into the Pacific. I'm from Corpus Christi, Texas and I really like the videos man. I'm currently living in El Paso, so the Cali coast is almost closer to me than my coastal town. Tight lines.
Wish you luck when youre here! if youre fishing from shore you need a valid fishing license . But if you are fishing from any kind of public fishing pier, you do not need any license at all! good luck brotha!
Rodney Marquez I tried drop shotting at shelter island pier. I had something big on but missed it. I rented a car, so let me know where your favorite pier is!
Hi Rodney. Love the video. I have recently moved from Texas and would love to catch a halibut. Can you tell me a place to go that you would go to catch one? It's a big bay, lol, and with work and family I'd like to start in a place that could produce. Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work.
Great video man! I’ve been trying to look for this spot forever. Just wondering if it’s in a military base or just regular San Diego bay. Looking forward to a reply. Thank you!
love your system used that same setup with live bait for yellowtail and with small grubs for largemouth bass. looks very effective . that spot you fish is probably the best in the bay for halibut. is it on or in the base and is it open to everyone . I thought it was navy only.
dang 500 likes? Ill try and film more halibut videos :D

Rodney Marquez I have been wanting to fish here for a while just dont know where it is.
Let's go fishing together!! I'm in SD, feel free to message me on here or even better my company Instagram, @runafbs !!
Sup. Love your videos. jw, how often do u get snagged on rocks and lose ur gear?
I’ve watched this like 20 times over the years. You e helped me catch many keepers. Thanks Rodney

Wow! Great fishing skills here!
Simple setup but very effective. Thanks Rodney for sharing
Can't wait to get out and restart fishing, gonna try for some halibut once I get my new setup! Thank you for the inspiration!
Good fishing catch and release, thanks for the tip. Great video!
Thank you Luis!
Hi: I tried your drop shot rig and got a 26 inch halibut on my first cast in the surf I’m hooked and have been catching halibut every time I go thanks for tip 👍 Todd
You should make a video on how you tie your drop shot and what hooks, baits ect you need.
How about area with rocks and sand? Isn’t there a higher chance of getting stuck with drop shot weight?
true true, there is a higher chance for sure , But I dont really get that much trouble.
I love reading comments like these! Congrats Enrique on catching halibut! you almost there for a legal one :D good luck fishing out there my friend

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I'll be following your advice to the T! Thanks for the awesome content. Keep up the great work.
Hey there. What’s your setup you’re using in this video? Do you have another video showing this by chance? Thanks!
Love the video! Still Learning how to fish the bay and I’m SD native. Where in the bay was this location? It didn’t look familiar to me. Point Loma?
Excellent! I'll be visiting San Diego in April. Can't wait to try out this technique. Great how to video.
Wish you luck!
What weight torpedo would you recommend for rougher water?
Thank So Much, hopefully I can check out that area soon. Thank You for showing how to fish Halibut.
Another great video rodney. I've been fishing the dropshot in the bay like I would for largemouth in the lakes without a lot of success, so your tips really help out.
Timothy you're very welcome , I post these vids to hopefully help
Hey we have a boat and want to go out in Coronado bay and was hoping you would show us how
that sounds like an awesome time. Although my schedule is hectic with the family adventures at the moment :) send me a DM though in instagram
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel ok I will try
Nice vid. What test line were you using?
Rodney your videos are getting better and better
Connor Playz thanks ! this one was hard to video , just because hooking up on a halibut it hard itself :D
Hey, I've been watching your videos on tips on catching halibut. I haven't had any luck... where is that spot in San Diego.
Hey Rodney, where is this fishing spot? Is this on the Navy base in Coronado?
Just found your site, subscribed. I've been fishing down south in the gulf and everyone is all about that tandem rig with gulp. I've never in my entire life thought, using a drop shot technique. Rodney, I just bought a surf spinning rig. You inspired me.
Damn, I’ve never seen one that big in San Diego, Nice!

Liked yr video. Shows everything you need and how to. But where exactly were you in sd bay?
You Conserved the halibuts Life . Great Job
thanks for taking the time to share, i'm in Boston and headed to San Diego in April, looking for fishing ideas while i'm visiting , i appreciate your efforts to inform, thanks very much
Should i get A medium or medium heavy st croix mojo spinning rod for fishing inshore in the harbors on docks and rocks
Hi Rodney ! I m planning on visiting from Tx which part bay you were at??
Do you set the hook immediately once you feel a bite or do you let them bite for a couple of seconds before setting the hook? I'm asking since I usually miss those flounder bites in Texas and halibuts and flounders are quite similar fish.
Thanks for the release, great work
no problem! Thanks for watching the halibut video
Which one is better Rodney - the white ice fluke that you used to use or this Kallin grub?
I switch between both of them. for simplicity I like the white grub
Great video!
Where was it in SD?

I love harbor island, shelter and spanish landing. However I heard some good reports fishing from Coronado pier for legals this time of year
Hey Rodney, just moved here and been trying to pin point where to fish. Where exactly is this spot? Or atleast a good area to camp out and test my luck. Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
