Does Cleveland really rock without Ian Hunter in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame? While there are some more commercially successful 60s and 70s artists and arguably more influential than Ian Hunter and his Mott The Hoople, he has been blasting out earth-shattering rock like this posted track since Little Richard and Jerry Lee (God bless them both with health) started him rocking on his own in 1958, and he hasn't stopped until his tinnitus worsened this autumn (God bless him, too!) forcing him to cancel the western leg of his USA tour. Def Leppard, Queen (Hunter was the only artist they ever only opened for in 1974) and many other true (not just European) rockers would celebrate his induction. David Bowie and Freddie Mercury would be jumping for joy "All The Way From Memphis" to Rock Heaven over this one!!
I was born in Cleveland when Kennedy was in charge. We do know a bit about Rock & Roll and the greats will agree. Ask these guys where they started, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, see if they say Cleveland Rocks. Check the names for Terry Knight & The Pack or later Grand Funk, Bob Segar System, Otis Redding, O'Jays, The James Gang, with Joe Walsh the list is long of those that came to Crappy Cleveland and found out they had Fans waiting, and wanting to discover more great music. The Crowds here knew really good music, and we showed our appreciation to the kids on stage. Seeing Ian do the tour for "You're Never Alone With a Schizophrenic". ( Must HAVE Album) It was a Stormy and Steamy Hot Night in a small theater. We decided at the last minute to head Downtown and get in to the show. We closed the box office and bought the last two seats! So happy to had been there as CLEVELAND ROCKED for sure. They blew off the ROOF as Ian and Mick and the boys exploded inside our town. Ian Hunter you rock, and we in Cleveland Thank you tons of times for showing your love for our Chitty Cleveland.
I was drumming with Ian then..it was one week before that Who concert at the same place ( Cinncinnati Riverfrony Stadium?) ( I still have the t-shirt!) Sat in on Bun.E.'s floor toms on Daydripper for the Cheap Trick encore with Mick Ronson. Fun night!!
I saw Ian Hunter at a big outdoor show at the Rockford Super Speedway. When he played this it was easy to sing "Rockford Rocks." The drunken, drugged crowd loved it. I've been a big fan of Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople since then.
I saw Ian on this tour when he and his band performed in South Florida. Remember him having the audience chant "Disco Sucks" during the middle part of the song. Those were the days!
yeah I remember those day's when we had real rock radio down here in S Florida with the old WSHE 103. I remember hearing this song for the first time on SHE 103. Good days for sure!
The original name of the song was "London Rocks" but fhe USA, Ian Hunter changed it to "Cleveland Rocks" = Still I think he is one of greatest Rock stars of all time . . .
@bucky468 The original studio version used to be here. I'm ticked off because I wanted a friend, who has only heard (and really likes) the lame version by PotUSA, to hear the original in all its full RNR glory! Shee-it is right.
If you saw a live performance by these two, any place in the USA, when Ian would hold the mic towards the crowd to sing the reframe, the crowd would respond with “Cleveland SUCKS, Cleveland SUCKS…”.
Mick Ronson was in a class by himself. One of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
The great Ian Hunter, the most underrated of the 70s UK glam rock stars!

I love the song Cleveland Rocks by Ian Hunter from 1979.
gotta love that guitar sound
The original name of the song was "London Rocks" but fhe USA, Ian Hunter changed it to "Cleveland Rocks" = Still I think he is one of greatest Rock stars of all time . . .
Actually, Hunter released a version called "England Rocks" a couple of years before "Cleveland Rocks". It's a bit rawer, but good too.
Now That the Cavaliers Won It ALL, CLEVELAND REALLY ROCKS!!!!
Don't hold your breath waiting for the Browns though. ;-)

Cleveland Sucks!
Gotta be a pittsburger
Why?

@@bediwilson And your point being?
Cleveland still SUCKS!
