I had no idea Melvyn Gale also played the piano in addition to cello. But it's him playing the piano solo on "Wild West Hero" on the "Out of the Blue" album.
That's what was cute. It's like melvyn was giving Hugh a break since Hugh was usually the one cutting up all over the stage. Someone said it looked like Jeff was having a tough time keeping the guys reigned in. He knew better than to try that.
When Kelly got dragged across floor and sat upon..! Couldn't help but laugh! With so much talent and energy, the whole thing was brilliant from start to finish.
The very best performance. I love to watch Hugh flip his hair back out of his face. He was so damned cute. Just loved him and miss him terribly. Rest in paradise Hugh!
I saw them at Newcastle City Hall on the same tour. when they did this song they went mental - but it got a bit silly - one of the cello players' bows flew out of his hand and went among us youngsters down the front going mental with them - he was looking over the side of the stage trying to find it - then Jeff broke a bloody guitar string! - great gig.
This song changed my life! I was a 15 year old kid tasked with watching my younger sister while my parents were out. I turned on that weeks episode of Don Kirschner’s Rock concert and was blown away by this group’s performance of a classic rock and roll song. Thank you ELO !!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know of many songs that are as gratuitously rock and roll as this song. It's like they took the essence of rock and roll, ground it up into a fine powder, sniffed a bit, then added liberal helpings of win to the rest and moulded this song. Even the studio version from CD is like this.

I feel that it is important for any band to be good. But, to be 'insanely'-good, maybe should be recognized differently. ELO is setting the mark here. And I feel that 'that mark' has stood for over four decades . . . and is still going strong.
yes I saw that tour...I believe the tour when they warmed up deep purple was 1974 ...they were touring the Eldorado album I 've been to 16 elo,concerts lol.... 2 elo,part 2 & Jeff lynnes elo,1x

I was hone on leave and was jumping for joy when I found out they would visit again!! with face the music....then saw them again in mid 1977 with new world record tour they had 2 sold out shows at cobo,arena ( detroit mi ) close 2nd in favorite elo concert .. they came to Detroit..many times

This is an Ok version of Roll-Over, but if U want to hear the absolute Best, do a youtube search on "Original Promo, 1973" It has the best ELO lineup of all - Wilf on violin & his yellow cape. Absolutely nothing compares to his performance!! Let me know what you think. 8 and a half minutes long! It will totally blow you away. Twice as much energy as this, & the audio quality is much better. This one rings in my ears!

I saw them in 1976 In Portland Oregon warm up for Deep Purple's women from Tokyo tour. They literally blew Deep Purple off the stage!
