The reason why Steve doesn't place cobblestone is probably because it'd be pretty hard to tell how close to breaking cobblestone is in the heat of battle, due to its texture. Really, if Steve did place cobblestone blocks instead of stone blocks, everyone would probably be complaining about that.

Here's a pretty simple missed opportunity: they should've added more special victory voice lines like with fox/falco, pit/dark pit etc. If Meta Knight beat Kirby he could say "Now I truly am the strongest," or Cloud could tell Sephiroth "stay where you belong, in my memories." There's so many they could do, maybe even interacting with other series like Sonic sneering at Mario or something.
Inkling should also get their death sounds played, could even make it so they explode with ink and release the ghost thingy when they lose a stock in stamina mode.

I was hoping for those sounds in the game as well! Especially the classic "oof" noise, but I love the Zombie alt and wish I could hear some of it's growls.
Hot take: I think Steve's better off without the oof sound. As funny as it is, it'd be weird having him never make any sounds, and then suddenly say oof when dying. It would feel out of place.
Would also be neat if there were more visual differences between them all. Notably, have Zombie swing both arms for most of the normal attacks/have both arms up in idle and walk animations, and have Enderman’s dodges be teleports like Mewtwo/Palutena. Like everything has the same frame data and all, just slightly different animations/sounds

Missed Oportunity idea: When a Zelda character is using the Special Flag to recover a stock, the fanfare that plays when you get an Item from a chest would play. I think it would be more cooler that the fanfare would change to resemble the game where they are from, but that would make Sheik, Y. Link and Ganondorf have the exact same but whatever.
Very cool idea! Mario characters and Sonic could have the 1-up sound that plays from their respective games. I'm sure there are others that have reward/1 up sounds but those 2 series are the first to come to mind.
feathero3 every RPG has a minimum of 1 sound effect that is played as a reward, every platformer has a 1up, item collection, or stage clear sound. Fighting game characters could have the menu sounds from their games when you select them.

Pokéball for Pikachu (He's the mascot) Love Ball for Jigglypuff Master Ball for Mewtwo Nest Ball for Pichu (A ball that works best or low level pokémon) Friend Ball for Lucario (Riolu evolves into Lucario with high friendship) Dive Ball for Greninja and Dusk Ball for Incineroar (Idk he's Dark type)
maybe a Heavy Ball for Incineroar, because he's tied with Charizard for the heaviest Pokémon rep in Smash. Also, a Luxury Ball would be better for Lucario imo, because it also helps with gaining friendship with a pokémon and looks cooler.
I like this idea! Especially Master Ball for Mewtwo since he is a legendary. Maybe since Poke'mon Trainer uses all standard Poke'balls, Pikachu could use a Quick Ball instead? I've seen that bundled with toy versions of him before. At the very least it would be cool if the Poke'Ball was simply random for each Poke'mon character at the start of a match.

My own idea for a missed opportunity: What if on firey volcano-like stages (like Brinstar depths) Steve mined netherite instead of diamonds. It would be a neat reference!
And bowser should have his weird yelling sound from Super Mario Bros 3 when dying using the bowser bomb at the bottom blast zone. Its situational, but cool. And botw link can make is “OUWAAAAA” when dying at the bottom blast zone assuming he isnt meteorsmashed.
Missed opportunity: Not having Daisy saying "Hi I'm Daisy!" as one of her taunts. Hey, if Peach can have an annoying taunt, Daisy deserves one too lmao

3:20 When you brought this idea up a few seconds earlier, I immediately thought that the unlock method would be something like getting a 9.9 in classic mode as that fighter, and you get a unique costume, like one of Mario's different costumes on certain maps in early Mario Party games.
When Mario gets launched by the lava in Norfair, Great Cave, stage builder, etc. he should do his “I just burned myself” animation like in the 3D Mario games.
Some missed opportunities I always think of: -Young Link doesn't use the versions of the Bow or Hookshot from Majora's Mask, instead using the ones adult Link does in Ocarina of Time. In Ocarina of Time, Young Link couldn't even use those items, so it's odd that they didn't give him his Majora's Mask items when remaking him in Ultimate. Also, it's a shame they didn't give him a Fierce Deity Mask final smash. -Ganondorf's Warlock Punch is a backhanded punch that shoots out a wave of darkness. Before you fight Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time, he shows the Triforce of Power on the back of his hand and shoots out a wave of darkness. It would be a nice detail if the Triforce of Power lit up on his hand while charging Warlock Punch, giving the move a cool reference and making it more his own. -King Dedede is often fought in a ring in the Kirby games. His ring even appears in his final smash. It would be cool if his version of the ring could appear as a variant for the Boxing Ring Stage, similar to how there are Punch-Out and Smash Bros variants already. Maybe they could even replace the generic animated people in the stage with the Kirby and Mario characters in the crowd in Kirby games. While we're at it, they could even make a variant based on the boxing ring from Donkey Kong 64! -In Smash 3DS, the Dream Land GB stage had a choosable black and white variant in addition to the normal green tint. In Smash Ultimate however, they removed the black and white variant. It would be great if they brought back the black and white variant, and while they're at it, a variant based on the Game Boy Color look would be nice too!

Easily one of the biggest missed opportunities for me was giving Young Link a unique Final Smash. Even if it was functionally the same as Triforce Slash, it would have been awesome to see him wear the Fierce Deity mask and transform. But no, just the same-old same-old with no distinctions...
If it helps, they do this in Hyrule Warriors, where the Fierce Deity is Young Link’s unique mechanic. He builds up a meter that, when used, allows him to put on the Fierce Deity mask for increased damage, and he uses it for his special and magic attacks

@@squiddy1132 I actually had a few ideas to me Dr. Mario stand out more not just as a character but for his series in general: 1.) Make him feel more like a doctor by incorporating more elements into his moveset like changing the animation of his Forward Smash to better mimic a Defibrillator, using his stethoscope for his pummel, almost like a palm thrust to the chest, and have him inspect a clipboard in the style of the original NES game for his up taunt. 2.) Give both Mario and Dr. Mario different moves and animations to differentiate their characteristics and playstyles. Doc's dash attack would stay the same but Mario's would change to resemble the dive move from Super Mario 64 (and a few other Mario games too), to showcase how each of their launch angles aren't the same. Doc's Down Smash could be an electric palm thrust similar to that of his Forward Smash but on both sides of him like Lucario's Down Smash, only that it would be slower than Mario's but safer on shield and packs more of a punch. His down throw would stay the same, but Mario's would change to be the Ground Pound similar to Luigi's down throw expect launching behind Mario instead of in front of him. Make the throwing animation of Doc's neutral special reflect how he tosses megavitamins in his games, which would also make it travel more distance than Mario's. Lastly, the Final Smash should reference a game of Dr. Mario by having the pill's rain down from the sky; for fun, the background of the Final Smash could have a checkered pattern referencing his game as well. Those are my ideas at least.
Ike and Roy deserve unique victory themes based on their games just like the Awakening characters, Corrin, and Byleth. Ganondorf and Wolf could also do with personalized victory themes, and while I appreciate Bowser and Ridley at least getting their own remixes of the hero themes, they could’ve easily gotten the K. Rool / Sephiroth treatment of implementing their original villain music

I think it would be cool if Alph would have rock Pikmin instead of Purple Pikmin, since in Pikmin 3 you can't obtain Purple Pikmin (atleast in the main story). It would just be a new Skin and not change anything since Alph is only a costume and not an echo (for whatever reason).
yeah! I feel like louie would be a good olimar echo fighter, with an alt being brittany, purple and white pikmin being replaced with rock pikmin and bulbmin, and final smash being the titan dweevil. also purple pikmin should latch on like it does in the games
Getting rock Pikmin would push him over the edge into being an Echo. He's currents costume because he is 100% functionally identical to Olimar. Even as a reskin, I think the Rock Pikmin would be enough for that. But it's not like they had much of an actual reason for the number of playable characters from the beginning.
Missed Opportunity: Inklings should’ve gotten an extended victory theme, being the continuation of the Splatoon 1 victory theme, just like how Cloud has the full FFVII victory theme
From Awakening onward, each soldier in Fire Emblem got their own little voice line celebrating a victory in combat. It would have been really cool if Robin, Chrom, and Corrin's victory animations featured those same lines. You could also add the sound of the FE experience bar in the background - THAT would be an awesome nod.
One missed opportunity I would’ve loved for Steve was him wearing iron armor when he grabs the metal box, since his metal model is super plain since he’s just a bunch of boxes
There is a bunch of art of Mario doing his forward air with his fist on fire. It would be cool if they made his forward air have the fire effect (similar to some of Roy’s moves).
They referenced that in Charizard's trailer in Smash 4, which means that they definitely acknowledge it. Or maybe that trailer was what inspired all the artwork, idk. But yeah, that would be a really cool detail to add in future games
since rex is generally a pretty positive guy from what i remember, so he would probably still at least flash a thumbs up or something, but yeah i can definitely picture him being worn out when using that taunt at high %
Missed opportunity: If Link used some other weapons for, say, his smash attacks. He's representing botw, and weapon switching sort of defined that game, so just having him pull out a spear for his f smash, or a club for his down smash, would be a super clever reference.
I feel like that's what was originally planned, since there was a rumor when Byleth released that another character was going to have his moveset, but they changed course when they were running short on time
Would have been cool to see an update to Lucina's idle pose to be more unique like Chrom has, where she uses her stance from FE: Awakening instead of the Marth idle animation.
Missed Opportunity: When the match starts and someone is playing as steve, Instead of his mining entrance, have him just appear from thin air and in the bottom left it says "Steve joined the game."
This makes me realized how much opportunities is there to add cool small feature in the game. Sadly Nintendo probably won't do any details fixing to Smash beside adding dlc and changing Cloud Omislash that one time
When he dies it should say "Steve left the game". And when he respawns it will say he enteres the game again. It would also be cool if you could add your minecraft skin to replace over Steve but that will probably never happen.
I hate Steve's entrance so much. It could have been a Nether Portal, an ender pearl in, appearing with a notification that "Steve joined the game", landing with an elytra or a water bucket, or any other cool reference. But no, we get him lazily mining a few blocks that don't even line up with the Minecraft stage
nah the crits should be when he hits you with a falling aerial, just like minecraft. although if it doesn’t actually crit than it would probably just be confusing (in which case they might’ve already thought of that and decided not to add it)
One example of a sonic related missed opportunity is his victory theme. Smash uses the one from 06, which in that game, an acoustic version “His World” played on the results screen. They should have made this happen in Smash, like how cloud’s result screen music is different from the smash default.
I wish Steve had his old hit sound when he gets hit, I guess they didn't add it cause Alex doesn't have a hurt sound besides the universal one. Also the Zombie hurt sounds and Enderman hurt sounds would be cool too.

When any pokemon character gets an effect that either increases or decreases any stat (Run speed, attack power etc.) The red or blue increasing or decreasing status effect from the pokemon games could play. The opposite however would be applied if a pokemon picks up a poison mushroom because it would play the red increasing effect for have more avasiveness similar to the move minimise from the pokemon series. (Opposite for mega mushroom)

One missed opportunity I think would have been nice was having a color of the original 12 characters with their 64 look, since the 64 stages kept that same 64 style. This could possibly work with Melee characters and maybe even Brawl characters as well.
Here's a neat idea. If the Minor Circuit theme (from punch out Wii) is playing in a 1 on 1 match, if you have the stock lead (or player 1 in the case of local play) The sound of getting your opponent knocked down will play, however, if your opponent (or player 2) is in the lead, the sound of little mac getting knocked down plays. Normal theme plays if Stocks are at an equilibrium.

I’d like to see the characters completely gold, instead of clothes (expect for Yoshi, Kirby, etc, who don’t really have clothes). I like the idea of shining, also maybe a gold tint to the Player’s or CPU’s name tag.
Sonic's entire moveset is a missed opportunity lmao. I have a fool's hope that Sakurai might some day update his abysmal moveset...like that's ever gonna happen. Also, why does nobody seem to remember that Sonic can run on water? He does it more than Luigi. He should be able to run on water, rather than Luigi.
They would never do that because the Colonel's Japanese voice actor passed away, so the character was retired from the series out of respect to him. The Colonel appears prominently in Snake's CODECs, so it would be weird to have a bunch of new ones that don’t feature him at all, and they also couldn’t change his mentions of "Brawl" to just "Smash".
Leet 1337 they could have still had Otacon, Mei Ling, Naomi, Miller, Liquid, Raiden, Meryl, DeepThroat, Natstasha do calls. Or reference Big Boss with Zero, Sigint, Eva, The Boss, Para-Medic, Huey, Ocelot, etc. Snake's voice is still around so they could have recorded new lines

6:51 Speaking of Sonic‘s losing animation, wouldn’t it be amazing if he got his idle animation and automatic self-KO after three minutes from Sonic CD? I mean, it would cost you a stock, but during usual gameplay Sonic mains can’t even stand in one place for a single second, let alone three minutes, so it would be fine.
The potion effect thing is actually a really neat idea. Really like that one. Tho I do think you'd have to keep the extra stuff like the cloud with jokers Poison just so players can quickly tell if someone was hit it with it
Missed Opportunity: When Joker has a spirit that gives a him a speed, defense or attack buff or debuff, it could play the tarukaja, sukukaja or rakukaja animation at the start of a fight.
Another thing I‘d love to see would be the two sheep in the background of the Minecraft stage having different colors like in the original game, where certain colors have different chances of spawning. I‘d imagine the possibilities would be carried over, meaning, for example, that when you enter the stage, there‘s a 0.164% chance for one of the sheep to be pink.
Missed opportunity: Kirby’s grabs should be a variety of his copy abilities rather than just supplied. Up smash should be parasol while forward should be beam. And while we’re at it, Whenever Kirby is affected by sleep, he should put bring up a pillow and his sleep hat to resemble his sleep ability
I got some ideas for missed opportunities for my favourite fighter: Inkling! Though Inkling already has details that reference Splatoon, there are some more that really aren't a big deal but would be cool to see. 1. The third alternate costume of Inkling (the yellow one) references the gear the player uses as Agent 3 from Splatoon 1, it would be cool if instead of keeping the normal weapons (Splattershot, Splat Roller, Inkbrush, Blaster and Slosher) Inkling also switched to the Hero variations (Hero Shot, Hero Roller, Herobrush, Hero Blaster and Hero Slosher). I understand if it didn't make sense to change all the weapons since Inkling in Smash mostly references Splatoon 1 and that game only had the Hero Shot, but hey, at least that weapon could be changed. 2. When you Super Jump in Splatoon a little marker appears on the ground showing where you're going to land. If the player lands directly on the stage and doesn't grab the ledge, a little and subtle marker would appear on the floor at the location of landing. 3. Similarly to the idea of messages displaying when Steve looses a stock and the effect Mega Man has when he also looses a stock, something like that could apply to Inkling. When you splat someone in Splatoon, a marker appears on the location where the opponent is splatted. This marker could appear on the blast zone if Inkling manages to KO an opponent, additionally a little text box could also appear maybe over Inkling's percentage saying "Splatted ! A similar message box could also appear when Inkling gets KOed saying "Splatted by " What do you think? Just some ideas I came up with for Inkling, hope you all like them.
Missed opportunity: Since Isabelle's final smash resembles the town's hall based on Animal crossing new leaf it would be cool if Tom Nook had his clothes from the same game
A missed opportunity with Hero is that whenever he picks up something in dq 11, it plays a sound effect. I think it would be cool if it played that sound effect when he picks up an item

The reason why Steve doesn't place cobblestone is probably because it'd be pretty hard to tell how close to breaking cobblestone is in the heat of battle, due to its texture. Really, if Steve did place cobblestone blocks instead of stone blocks, everyone would probably be complaining about that.

Here's a pretty simple missed opportunity: they should've added more special victory voice lines like with fox/falco, pit/dark pit etc. If Meta Knight beat Kirby he could say "Now I truly am the strongest," or Cloud could tell Sephiroth "stay where you belong, in my memories." There's so many they could do, maybe even interacting with other series like Sonic sneering at Mario or something.

Would also be neat if there were more visual differences between them all. Notably, have Zombie swing both arms for most of the normal attacks/have both arms up in idle and walk animations, and have Enderman’s dodges be teleports like Mewtwo/Palutena. Some missed opportunities I always think of:
-Young Link doesn't use the versions of the Bow or Hookshot from Majora's Mask, instead using the ones adult Link does in Ocarina of Time. In Ocarina of Time, Young Link couldn't even use those items, so it's odd that they didn't give him his Majora's Mask items when remaking him in Ultimate. Also, it's a shame they didn't give him a Fierce Deity Mask final smash.
-Ganondorf's Warlock Punch is a backhanded punch that shoots out a wave of darkness. Before you fight Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time, he shows the Triforce of Power on the back of his hand and shoots out a wave of darkness. It would be a nice detail if the Triforce of Power lit up on his hand while charging Warlock Punch, giving the move a cool reference and making it more his own.
-King Dedede is often fought in a ring in the Kirby games. His ring even appears in his final smash. It would be cool if his version of the ring could appear as a variant for the Boxing Ring Stage, similar to how there are Punch-Out and Smash Bros variants already. Maybe they could even replace the generic animated people in the stage with the Kirby and Mario characters in the crowd in Kirby games. While we're at it, they could even make a variant based on the boxing ring from Donkey Kong 64!
-In Smash 3DS, the Dream Land GB stage had a choosable black and white variant in addition to the normal green tint. In Smash Ultimate however, they removed the black and white variant. It would be great if they brought back the black and white variant, and while they're at it, a variant based on the Game Boy Color look would be nice too!

Easily one of the biggest missed opportunities for me was giving Young Link a unique Final Smash. Even if it was functionally the same as Triforce Slash, it would have been awesome to see him wear the Fierce Deity mask and transform. But no, just the same-old same-old with no distinctions...
Honestly they could have kept the Triforce Slash Final Smash and simply given him the Fierce Diety transformation right when he does it.
If it helps, they do this in Hyrule Warriors, where the Fierce Deity is Young Link’s unique mechanic. He builds up a meter that, when used, allows him to put on the Fierce Deity mask for increased damage, and he uses it for his special and magic attacks
Dr. Mario’s victory theme should be that of the Vs. Mode victory music from the original Dr. Mario on the NES (or Dr. Mario 64).
It's so sad he got lumped in with the other Mario victory themes, especially with how drastically different his series is! We need more Dr. Mario representation!
@@squiddy1132 I actually had a few ideas to me Dr. Mario stand out more not just as a character but for his series in general:
1.) Make him feel more like a doctor by incorporating more elements into his moveset like changing the animation of his Forward Smash to better mimic a Defibrillator, using his stethoscope for his pummel, almost like a palm thrust to the chest, and have him inspect a clipboard in the style of the original NES game for his up taunt.
2.) Give both Mario and Dr. Mario different moves and animations to differentiate their characteristics and playstyles. Doc's dash attack would stay the same but Mario's would change to resemble the dive move from Super Mario 64 (and a few other Mario games too), to showcase how each of their launch angles aren't the same. Doc's Down Smash could be an electric palm thrust similar to that of his Forward Smash but on both sides of him like Lucario's Down Smash, only that it would be slower than Mario's but safer on shield and packs more of a punch. His down throw would stay the same, but Mario's would change to be the Ground Pound similar to Luigi's down throw expect launching behind Mario instead of in front of him. Make the throwing animation of Doc's neutral special reflect how he tosses megavitamins in his games, which would also make it travel more distance than Mario's. Lastly, the Final Smash should reference a game of Dr. Mario by having the pill's rain down from the sky; for fun, the background of the Final Smash could have a checkered pattern referencing his game as well.
Those are my ideas at least.
Ike and Roy deserve unique victory themes based on their games just like the Awakening characters, Corrin, and Byleth. Ganondorf and Wolf could also do with personalized victory themes, and while I appreciate Bowser and Ridley at least getting their own remixes of the hero themes, they could’ve easily gotten the K. Rool / Sephiroth treatment of implementing their original villain music

Getting rock Pikmin would push him over the edge into being an Echo. He's currents costume because he is 100% functionally identical to Olimar. Even as a reskin, I think the Rock Pikmin would be enough for that. But it's not like they had much of an actual reason for the number of playable characters from the beginning.

One missed opportunity I would’ve loved for Steve was him wearing iron armor when he grabs the metal box, since his metal model is super plain since he’s just a bunch of boxes

The opposite however would be applied if a pokemon picks up a poison mushroom because it would play the red increasing effect for have more avasiveness similar to the move minimise from the pokemon series. (Opposite for mega mushroom)

On Sonic's 30th anniversary they could've add Omochao as an assistant trophy.
Omochao would be a troll. Instead of helping you, it will only bother you for a while talking non-stop, telling you things that you already know.

Steve died from a 0-to-death combo by a Luigi main.
Other than the ones that were shown in the video, here are some of my ideas:
"Steve discovered the floor was magma" (When dying to lava on Great Cave Offensive)
"Steve saw Mimikyu" (When dying to Mimikyu)
"Steve was squished too much" (When being crushed, such as on Midgar when the stage fuses back together)
"Steve fell out of the world" (When falling into the bottom blast zone)
Steve forgot how to fly (when he sd’s with his upb)
"Steve burned to death"

Steve tried to swim in lava
Great cave offensive 100 percent lava

This could be used if he dies to the road/walls on Mute City, Port Town Aerodive, the Pirate Ship, and the Spirit Tracks stage
For the “gold alt” idea, inkling should definitely have the chaos ink color from final fest, along with the golden toothpick
One missed opportunity I think would have been nice was having a color of the original 12 characters with their 64 look, since the 64 stages kept that same 64 style. This could possibly work with Melee characters and maybe even Brawl characters as well.
They should totally add the Steve messages, that was a huge missed opportunity
On Stamina Mode when Steve dies he can turn red like someone does when they die in multiplayer.
Here's a neat idea. If the Minor Circuit theme (from punch out Wii) is playing in a 1 on 1 match, if you have the stock lead (or player 1 in the case of local play) The sound of getting your opponent knocked down will play, however, if your opponent (or player 2) is in the lead, the sound of little mac getting knocked down plays. Normal theme plays if Stocks are at an equilibrium.
I can just imagine litte Timmy picking the mouse with the detective hat on and freaking out when he hears a grown man's voice coming out of the mouse when he spams his neutral B

What if instead of having the wood change depending on the stage, each Steve alt had a different type of wood? 8 alts, 8 wood planks.
It would make sense if ender man had warped wood, however they didn’t include anything from the latest updates in Steve. That was partially because it wasn’t finished when steve was being brainstormed. This would make there only 6 types, which could still be possible if some of them shared

I've always thought mario's footstool should deal a bit of damage, since his main way of attacking in the mario games is by stomping. I know they want to keep him simple, but just having it do a tiny bit of damage would be a nice reference

Footstools are not an attack. If you want to make them an attack then remove them from the jump button

Link also has a unique dodge animation. He does a backflip when he back rolls. I don't know if that counts as being different enough though.

I’d like to see the characters completely gold, instead of clothes (expect for Yoshi, Kirby, etc, who don’t really have clothes). I like the idea of shining, also maybe a gold tint to the Player’s or CPU’s name tag.
Sonic's entire moveset is a missed opportunity lmao. I have a fool's hope that Sakurai might some day update his abysmal moveset...like that's ever gonna happen. Also, why does nobody seem to remember that Sonic can run on water? He does it more than Luigi. He should be able to run on water, rather than Luigi.
Sonic should also instantly drown when he touches water as a reference to his home series (as he can't swim in his home series)
Missed Opportunity: Snake Voice Lines for characters from 4 and Ultimate
They would never do that because the Colonel's Japanese voice actor passed away, so the character was retired from the series out of respect to him. The Colonel appears prominently in Snake's CODECs, so it would be weird to have a bunch of new ones that don’t feature him at all, and they also couldn’t change his mentions of "Brawl" to just "Smash".
Leet 1337 they could have still had Otacon, Mei Ling, Naomi, Miller, Liquid, Raiden, Meryl, DeepThroat, Natstasha do calls. Or reference Big Boss with Zero, Sigint, Eva, The Boss, Para-Medic, Huey, Ocelot, etc.
Snake's voice is still around so they could have recorded new lines

Missed opportunity: When Joker loses a stamina battle on Mementos a navigator’s (Morgana, Futaba, or Akechi) voice line should play and his death animation from Persona 5 should play.
And remove haru from appearing in mementos or jokers final smash. She cannot have anything close to screen time.

His animation is just him falling to the floor and weakly raising a hand. That can't really play when he's been launched

This isn't that related but when I first played Ultimate I totally thought that Link's final smash would be a flurry rush or his original triforce slash thing but instead of the triforce he would use stasis
One idea when sonic is drowning you can hear the music of drowning from the sonic games!
At the very least, it should play the final sound effect if Sonic dies that way.
Inkling has a special death animation when she dies from the scythe, Like in splatoon the squid floats up

Missed Opportunity: When Joker has a spirit that gives a him a speed, defense or attack buff or debuff, it could play the tarukaja, sukukaja or rakukaja animation at the start of a fight.
If he has buffs to more than one of these stats, maybe it could use Heat Riser.
Or it could show ‘weak’ ‘technical’ ‘block’ and that kinda thing at some times

To fix your problem of dropping items and other players picking it up, instead Steve could drop xp that would go away after like 2 seconds.
Another thing I‘d love to see would be the two sheep in the background of the Minecraft stage having different colors like in the original game, where certain colors have different chances of spawning. I‘d imagine the possibilities would be carried over, meaning, for example, that when you enter the stage, there‘s a 0.164% chance for one of the sheep to be pink.

Missed opportunity: Kirby’s grabs should be a variety of his copy abilities rather than just supplied. Up smash should be parasol while forward should be beam.
And while we’re at it, Whenever Kirby is affected by sleep, he should put bring up a pillow and his sleep hat to resemble his sleep ability
I got some ideas for missed opportunities for my favourite fighter: Inkling! Though Inkling already has details that reference Splatoon, there are some more that really aren't a big deal but would be cool to see.
1. The third alternate costume of Inkling (the yellow one) references the gear the player uses as Agent 3 from Splatoon 1, it would be cool if instead of keeping the normal weapons (Splattershot, Splat Roller, Inkbrush, Blaster and Slosher) Inkling also switched to the Hero variations (Hero Shot, Hero Roller, Herobrush, Hero Blaster and Hero Slosher). I understand if it didn't make sense to change all the weapons since Inkling in Smash mostly references Splatoon 1 and that game only had the Hero Shot, but hey, at least that weapon could be changed.
2. When you Super Jump in Splatoon a little marker appears on the ground showing where you're going to land. If the player lands directly on the stage and doesn't grab the ledge, a little and subtle marker would appear on the floor at the location of landing.
3. Similarly to the idea of messages displaying when Steve looses a stock and the effect Mega Man has when he also looses a stock, something like that could apply to Inkling. When you splat someone in Splatoon, a marker appears on the location where the opponent is splatted. This marker could appear on the blast zone if Inkling manages to KO an opponent, additionally a little text box could also appear maybe over Inkling's percentage saying "Splatted ! A similar message box could also appear when Inkling gets KOed saying "Splatted by "
What do you think? Just some ideas I came up with for Inkling, hope you all like them.
Missed opportunity: Since Isabelle's final smash resembles the town's hall based on Animal crossing new leaf it would be cool if Tom Nook had his clothes from the same game
A missed opportunity with Hero is that whenever he picks up something in dq 11, it plays a sound effect. I think it would be cool if it played that sound effect when he picks up an item
Then they'd have to do that for many characters
