@10minutefix question. Can I do this while it's still fully connected to the car?? Every time I try to hook up the terminals to the battery. The I think I'm hearing the starter click.( till it kills the battery. ) Checked all the fuses and relays all good.
On our 5.7 Ford f-350 there is an uninsulated heavy gauge wire between the solenoid and the starter - about 2 inches long. so I jumped that with main power wire going to the solenoid. The leads on my remote starter got hot just clicking a few times but the starter didn't budge. I might try banging on it. I thought these things were serviceable so I wanted to isolate the issue.
Most starters now have the solenoid as part of the body so even if your starter motor is good, you would need a complete starter assembly regardless. Good hack video though. I need to make test wires with switch.
@@10minutefixok i have a question, my 2004 expedition went out and i was bypassing with a screwdriver, but now it won't even start that way. Is it the starter and silenoid ? Can i bypass this way or through fuse?
@@John-ej8rx I really don’t like using screwdrivers but if you are then this is bypassing everything. If it doesn’t start that way then test the solenoid and the starter but for sure one of them is failing.

Yes jumping the starter solenoid will start the car if the key is in the on position.and get you going but to fix it for good instead of spending lots of money on a brand new Gm starter Many people me being one of them uses a ford starter selinoid with an extra battery cable to leghten the starter cable to move the selinoid up and away from the starter it works just as good if not better because it’s no longer right next to the motor and exhaust pipes where the high heat kills the selinoid time and time again yes you can keep the original Gm starter and just wire in a ford starter selinoid and that will work just fine and also not only is it better but cost is a lot cheaper then purchasing a new Gm starter and it happening all over again in a few months if that it is just wired up to the original Gm starter with a 2 foot battery cable anywhere in the engine bay with the extra battery cable going to the original Gm starter sometimes it last but most times it will fry the selinoid all over again causing the issue over and over with the ford selinoid wired into the Gm starter I have had no further issues at all and the car starts great every time. You can look it up on line Using a ford starter selinoid with a Gm starter it leaves the old Gm selinoid right where it is and having the ford selinoid up and away from the direct high heat fixes the problem for good Hopefully this will help a lot of people fixing there starter solenoid issue and keep them from being stuck because of it. Look into it I’m glad I did . Real simple to do and fixes it for good .
Hey question so i have a 2013 f150 ecoboost and the ground solenoid wont crank the starter when the wire is connected neither will a ground cable from jumper cables but if i connect the ground cable from the jumper cables onto the metal of the starter it cranks just fine
My fourwheeler wss working with the plier trick wheb connected but recently my fourwheeler died and everytime i try to use pliers now it sparks but smokes if held on too long
Well the only thing I can think of is the starter is bad. If you jumped it and it smokes then it is most definitely gone. If the starter is together with the solenoid then you need a new starter. If it is separate then you need to test the motor separately.
Well that could be several things. Fuel, timing, ignition coils, electrical issues or any other issue. It is hard to say but for sure it is not the starter if you tested it properly.
On that specific starter the black cable goes to the on/off switch. Some other starters don’t have the connecter and you would just plug the cable from the switch to the tab connector on the starter.
The solenoid spins the starter so it wouldn’t work at all. If you don’t hear a clicking sound then you need to check the starter and the wiring going to it.
@@10minutefix well what’s going on is when you push the starter button it’s sounding like something is spinning but it doesn’t turn the motor over at all
Then it sounds like your solenoid is working. Once it gets power the solenoid activates and runs power to the starter motor. Maybe your solenoid is not catching the starter motor.
Could you help me I've even tried doing the plyers hack but it isn't working anymore doesn't turn over just smoked up my battery cable and solenoid part

Why does this even matter? Lol. If your solenoid is bad, your starter is bad. If the motor is bad, congratulations, youre gunna get a brand new solenoid with your brand new starter motor.

@commonsense.1014 I would remove the battery just in case it doesn’t damage anything in the cars control system. Just a precaution.
Yes, & if you get a replacement starter these days, test it before installing. New don't mean good. Save you pulling it back off.
This happen to me got replacement and its dead but i installed it before testing it again
Just because it spins doesn’t mean it works. Had some that will free spin but if you put a load on it not enough to spin the engine over
Exactly! Don’t run a bench test without a load on! Get it done at an auto parts store😄

@@bysaaa3048 you should be able to test it on the engine
That test tells you half the story. The real test is under a load.😮

How is this a hack? 😂😂😂
Of you are bypassing the solenoid the why does the pinion gear still move forward? As if it is engaging with a flywheel?
The solenoid does not control the pinion. The solenoid only gives power to the motor. Bypassing the solenoid just tests the actual motor.
You can also take it to the auto parts. Where they have a machine and test for free
Thank you my friend
Thanks for watching.
If the celenoid is bypass how the Bendix still plunging?. Thought was the celenoid that does that?
The solenoid only activates the motor. The bending is in the motor. The solenoid does not bypass the bendix.
My point too he didn't bypass the solenoid

Is this direct or gear reduction
What do the other wires connect too? Im building a yamaha xs850 and im trying to put the new starter solenoid on
This starter was specific to an engine I was working on. Some starters don’t have these other connections.
If the plunger doesn't engage its bad change it or rebuild it
Can I also do this if I already have a frame mounted solenoid and I don't want to use the solenoid on the starter?
I suppose you could because there are starters that don’t have a solenoid.
Which BEGGS the question, what about if it's Bendix drive?
Thank you Sir
❤what amperage on the switch 😊
Is this how you connect it to test it in the car as well
If your car has this type of starter then it can be tested this way.
You're connected to the solenoid.
Hi , where did you get your testing wire?
I made them.
What is the what is the black cable go that's coming off the right side of your solenoid what's that running
On that specific starter the black cable goes to the on/off switch. Some other starters don’t have the connecter and you would just plug the cable from the switch to the tab connector on the starter.
@@10minutefixwhat do you call that switch you are using?
Do I have to have a pulley start to have a electric start
Will this start the vehicle
Yes
What would it do if the solenoid wasn’t working? With the starter just spin?
The solenoid spins the starter so it wouldn’t work at all. If you don’t hear a clicking sound then you need to check the starter and the wiring going to it.

Well, if your solenoid is connected to the starter then it might not be making the power jump to the motor. That could be one possibility.
Could you help me I've even tried doing the plyers hack but it isn't working anymore doesn't turn over just smoked up my battery cable and solenoid part
But if a cable is connected to the solenoid does that mean the solenoid is bypassed?
If there is a cable connected then it is not bypassed.
Where can I buy this?
Can i use a starter motor on A electric go kart
What's the wiring for solenoid
Most starters won’t have this wiring. It went to a control panel.
Don’t forget to tell people to use 12gauge wire not 6 gauge. Although u shouldn’t do this if u don’t understand electricity
You are correct.
Why do you say to use a smaller wire and not a wire of appropriate gauge?
If I have to start my car like this, essentially does that mean I need a new starter?
Not necessarily because your starter motor is working. The solenoid might be bad. Test it. If it works then it is an electrical issue somewhere else.

What is you dont have an inertia drive like that starter does?
What do you meant by inertia drive? Are you referring to the solenoid?
@@10minutefix The act motion of spinning engages that drive through centrifical force. Most starters use the solinoid for that function. So if you activate the motor term. The drive wont engage
This is not an energía drive. There are gears and that is what moves the pinion up and engages the flywheel.
Yeah, it looks like you didn't bypass the solanoid it was throwing the cog.
I did bypass it.

What’s the button you using?
