I think both parties need to be sure not to cross the line when acknowledging others. You can give compliments and find other people attractive, but you can’t give off the impression that you’re making an opening for them in a way that may threaten the stability of you relationship. It’s not right to be borderline disrespectful when acknowledging or connecting with someone outside of your relationship and then say your partner is being insecure or toxically jealous. There has to be balance, trust, maturity, and communication. Once you and your partner are on the same page it’s not an issue.
My last relationship ended because he was way too friendly. No matter how secure I felt he made me feel insecure just because of his lack of boundaries. I had to leave before it started to effect my mental.
My last relationship the guy was really friendly too and I loved that about him and never had a problem with it, then he crossed the line. That made me think, was that what the friendliness was all about and I was just naive?

This was a good topic! In my relationship, we are secure and comfortable enough to acknowledge among ourselves that someone may have a nice hairstyle, clothing or is attractive. There was an occasion where I actually complimented a man on a nice tie. And I'm equally complimentary to a woman if she had nice shoes, hair etc. This is probably because it's in my nature to generally want to uplift or encourage people. So my man, who is not at all a jealous person, informed me (many years ago now) just to be mindful because sometimes men will mistake friendly compliments for being flirtatious. At first, I didn't understand why someone would read beyond what was actually said to them. But I recognize and respect that men know how some other men may think and same can be said for us in regards to some women. So I understood what Chance was saying about the possible perception of a man "looking weak" or "not having control". With that in mind, my man and I tend to keep these discussions between us. I can be quite jealous with my partner but I'm 21 and this is something I need/want to work on. I have trust issues/trauma due to a bad first relationship & my dad was a cheater. So I need to personally grow in order to also have my relationship grow. But it can be scary to ask for help!

In Walmart one day I was helping my wife find some items for an event. We were leaving because they didn't have what was needed. As we were walking out I was looking down each isle for what wifey wanted. As soon as we got into the car she said, " Don't think I didn't see you stare at that woman." You guys are so right. I see so many couples tore apart cause he/she looked at another person. Whether they did or not, and if they did, it was a look, innocent-human nature to see what’s around you. My husband was in a relationship once where he was constantly accused of looking/cheating. That’s no way to live. We respect our relationship and our marriage vows. People ask me do you trust him? Good topic, my husband and I have been together since we were 15 yrs old, got married when we were 20 years old. We had a 2 yr old daughter & pregnant with twin boys. Literally the first 8 years I was jealous and he was low key jealous. Basically I was totally insecure & we didn't have the maturity plus our environment didn't help, nor were we saved. He said he wasn't jealous but was Sophisticated Petty, throwing little jabs. Thank God that season didn't last long. At our 29th year of marriage we found a Christian therapist to help us work through years of stuff, pre-marriage and during. Simply because we wanted to delete anything that may try to reservice later in life. We were empty nesters, made a big move away from everyone and needed to start new. Now at 31 years of marriage we are so care free that we joke about about our past. Jealousy is toxic and can destroy you and others. If it creeps up, address it quickly and move on. For example, watching how our parents interactive in relationships or responding from a feeling of inadequacy. So because there's a personal battle happening within oneself, it can be difficult to hear the partner compliment someone else.

When I said something he said you’re jealous. It’s not about jealousy. Every woman like being complimented and love beautiful things. This is what my mother would say.

You guys are so right. I see so many couples tore apart cause he/she looked at another person. Whether they did or not, and if they did, it was a look, innocent-human nature to see what’s around you. My husband was in a relationship once where he was constantly accused of looking/cheating. That’s no way to live. We respect our relationship and our marriage vows. People ask me do you trust him? I respect him, I know him, I know he respects and loves me. Trust is part of that but I don’t focus on can I trust him, I focus on we love and respect each other. So sad to see friends with issues like that when they have been together 30+ years and getting their hearts broke. Everyone of them have never had a strong sense of self or a confidence in their relationship. You guys are what we need more of in this world. I think we should love but keep trust in God and not in man. Even the Bible says that God was jealous when His children began to lust after and serve other “gods”. His relationship to His children is like that of a marriage, and He hates when we look to other things to fulfill a place in our lives that only He should have.
That's how I am with my husband too. Always talking about another women's outfit, hair or beauty. He just agrees and we laugh.

Good topic, my husband and I have been together since we were 15 yrs old, got married when we were 20 years old. We had a 2 yr old daughter & pregnant with twin boys. Literally the first 8 years I was jealous and he was low key jealous. Basically I was totally insecure & we didn't have the maturity plus our environment didn't help, nor were we saved. He said he wasn't jealous but was Sophisticated Petty, throwing little jabs.
Thank God that season didn't last long. At our 29th year of marriage we found a Christian therapist to help us work through years of stuff, pre-marriage and during. Simply because we wanted to delete anything that may try to reservice later in life. We were empty nesters, made a big move away from everyone and needed to start new. Now at 31 years of marriage we are so care free that we joke about about our past. Jealousy is toxic and can destroy you and others. If it creeps up, address it quickly and move on. Tabitha and Chance I am waiting for your podcast .

I agree it definitely can stem from deep, long term insecurity that often has nothing to do with your partner, it's inside of you, and it can be set off from partner behaviors. I would say if you know that you or your partner have that insecurity, talk about it openly! Know this about yourself. It can come from a buried place, and partners can help each other dig it out and deal with it compassionately. You guys are awesome, thank you for your message!!

First of all, y'all are one fine ass couple! 😍Second of all, I agree. I think it's an insecurity issue that may have been instilled from subconscious childhood teachings. For example, watching how our parents interactive in relationships or responding from a feeling of inadequacy. So because there's a personal battle happening within oneself, it can be difficult to hear the partner compliment someone else.
