Start by reducing the train/bus fares for school children. My 16 yr daughter pays adult fares from Manukau to Glen Innes to get to kura. Thats both ways, yea adds up alright.
Good stuff Simeon Brown! Good to see the Government stepping in and supporting the mayor and holding those up-themselves AT to account. And for Simeon Brown holding other councils who are suppose to serve their communities "to account". And good on the mayor for telling off AT. People who spend summer in Auckland want trains running, find another time to do track maintenance. Sydney & Wellington runs trains over the new year period providing free fares on Xmas, but not AT.
The constant over use of the word democracy and democratic makes me think it’s not democratic at all. It’s like someone constantly saying “to be honest” makes you think they’ve been lying 🤦🏽♂️
Look a little closer at WHAT functions of AT are affected here. Can the ratepayers of Waiheke make AT shift the Hospitals bus stop closer to the Waiheke ferry port in Quay Street? That should be easy. But it's not. AT COULD do it quite easily. But they simply say NO, don't question our authority. The test of Wayne Brown's claims here will be very simple. Does this one Hospitals bus stop shift closer to the Waiheke ferry? If it does -- yay Wayne Brown. But if it still DOESN'T, nope, Wayne Brown is outed as a con man.
This is an excellent decision. Returning control to those elected to take responsibility for the local needs. Simeon Brown has had such a profound and critical affect on the protfoluos hes responsible for and although Im not a National supporter, I admire his approach and action taking to tackle these challenging needs.
Jacinda ??? What does she have to do with it? The government decided it. Kiwirail wanted to do it for years but haven't been permitted by the government, now the government have taken control over railway closures and immediately they are allowed to close it.. Hmm interesting that Why would you blame an ex ex prime minister?
Good job Wayne Brown and Minister Brown. Next step is to sort out the horrendous attitude that Auckland Council has to the ratepayers. An impenetrable and totally unresponsive bureaucracy that seems to have no regard for the real needs and aspirations of Aucklanders.
I wonder how much a speed bump actually cost and whether their effectiveness is actually measured, aside from all of the consulting and engineering fees that go into a truck dumping a bump on the road 5 meters before a give way sign or roundabout
In the Eastern Courier weekly newpaper there was an article about the mayors bridge idea across the harbour near Pt. Chevalier. In tell us that in 1974 this was cross off the list as the seabed is not very solid to carry the weight of a bridge. So the Mayor is not always well researched in his thinking. So " Why was the thinking of National and ACT wrong when they passed the law?" Auckland Transport consult with the community. E.g Warkworth round abouts to solve an on going issue. But the current government has cut funding without consulting through its blanket policy on roads.
Yet no democracy is being instituted, as Brown is riding roughshod over existing qualified people so he can personally tell everyone how to run a business he has no experience in. Gettig rid of experienced qualified workers will only cost more and need fixing in the long run. Far better to sit with the existing managers and come up with a consensus of requirements and back them fully, not remove them. Yet Brown has a big ego and believes he somehow knows better. recipe of failure.
Please fix the absolute nightmare that Quay Street through the CBD has become before anything else is done. This absolute choke point has been a big part of slowing the central city down to a crawl ever since the changes to it were made. Secondly then fix Te Atatu Road - what was a reasonably functional local main road is now down to 5kmh for vast tracts of the day. The public voted 68% opposed to the changes that were made a year ago - yet AT rammed it through anyway, and it’s been a disaster ever since.
Yeah but he's not sacking them and shutting them down. According to today's Herald he's only shutting down their "long-term planning responsibilities". They still get to decide where the bus stops are, completely ignoring what the people who use those buses need and want.
Unfortunately AT seem to be doing everything they can to force through as many of their wasteful and frustrating projects as possible before they can be stopped. If they're really to become publicly accountable then I'm looking forward to voting much of the uselss management out of their jobs.
Let's see if he actually DOES ANYTHING USEFUL about AT. If he continues to let them make Waiheke hospital patients walk too far to the Hospitals bus -- nope, vote him out.
Too late for the Nightmare before Xmas that is K Rd - and the smaller centres like Mt Albert, West Lynn, Takapuna and Henderson!! AT was a nightmare foisted on Aucklanders by Rodney Hide!! And the overseas owned or controlled bus companies that contract to AT who are funded and subsidised by tax and ratepayers' money
Yes, I'm afraid Rodney Hide's enforced amalgamation of many small local councils into The SuperCity has been an unmitigated disaster. Reckon the very least you could do is make a humble apology on your RCR show, Rodney.
The real problem was the left led mayor and council employees that have very little real world experience that took control and grew their little empires
2010. Instead of suburbs having a local council by which locals gathered in respective chambers for decisions effecting their communities directly were conglomerated into a super city with larger government influence in decision making. An American analogy would be federalized, and not state, which stripped from the people the important voice they once had. Auckland has a rates equity of upwards and beyond of $29B with little say as to how that exorbitant amount was allocated. Government fingers in the local pie. Accountability is coming. The people deserve better representation. Selling our railway to Australia was a poor decision as more and more Trucks are relied upon to transport goods instead of our railway system now defunct which could alleviate our road infrastructure which is inept causing traffic delays because of lack of common sense.
Thursday, December 5th. Warkworth township has been told that due to the governments land transport policy, there is no central government money for two roundabout solutions to congestion and safety at intersection. AUCKLAND TRSNSPORT have their money in place, and the new report with 8nterviews from local included lots of comments about local input and consultation with the community. So the government policy has long reaching effects.
@@royhindmarsh4087 If you take your tinfoil hat off for long enough you'll understand that the decision makers are being changed from the untouchables to people who can get fired by local voters
I would like a metaworld community hub where contribution to the project can be tracked and plans made transparent, forums be open to challenge sustainability, innovation, budgets, and appeal for local cultural expressions, collaborations with master artists, thinkers and simply problem solvers of various kinds. That way we can all be proud of something going live in the real world. Thats what I envision as a democratic community board.
Im sure i read somewhere once, that each traffic cone is also essentially rented by the tax payer from STMS via AT at $2-$3 per day? And that if they loose a single cone its around $26’ish to replace billed to AT/taxpayers? Anybody heard this? Could explain why they’re soo bloody ridiculous in the amount they use. Im sure someone infinitely smarter than me, will shed some light here.
Finally, maybe we will have a sensible approach to roads and the flow of traffic instead of the massive waste of our money on pie in the sky schemes and advertising that are of no viable use whatsoever.
maybe now the AT replacement will actually build the cycle lanes and public transport they promised instead of just talking about it and only building more roads
So true I was one of those drivers. The road was suppose to be reopened at 6:00am, I was stuck on Glenbrook Road from 6:15 to 6:45am. Because there was no clear communication from AT about what was happening I ended up going another route which made me late for my work meeting. What a bunch of clowns! Unfortunately we've got a few weeks of this mess to put up with.
What is wrong with Auckland Transport? Let me count the ways. FOR YEARS Auckland Transport has been bribed by various commercial enterprises to do things that benefit those enterprises -- to the point where several years ago two AT officers actually went to jail for corruption. This is an organisation that is legendary for being totally unresponsive to input from the people whose rates and rents pay their inflated salaries. Wayne Brown has already been in power for quite long enough to have dealt to them, but he hasn't done so. The present hooha doesn't do the job either -- it's a con. AT needs to be totally disestablished and made responsive to the people who pay their salaries and use the services they're supposed to deliver. IT NEVER HAS BEEN responsive and it still won't be after the current pathetic little tweak.
There's a lot of fake profiles from overseas and what I imagine are faulty bots or translations that are pro Brown on here. Is that strange or normal for these latest coalition content?

The current government have introduced a policy which means fares will increase as the % of fare paid by the passenger must increase.

Father and son combo lol go the Browns 😂
Start by removing all those unnecessary lights and speed bumps. Remove every single one
When is the congestion tax happening. They cut extra fuel tax which was to fund Auckland but have not put in the new congestion charges "Why"
The Minister want to save people less than 5 to 10 minutes a week on average through the three party governments thinking.
excellent move by govt.
i have had enough of the incompetent AT.
Next step is to reduce CEO fat salary and reduce number of inefficient in AT
Hold National to account for its failure in the 28 years from 1949 to 1984.
About time. Great news. Very welcome. I'm sick and tired of damage to my vehicles, tools and cargo by the repeated stupid traffic tables!

Very good. Great team, thank you for making the efforts. Wayne Brown has done really well since the Auckland floods.

good in principle, except those elected don't know anything about transport so won't make the right decisions
Woke and AT ARE OVER ….

It frustrates motorists because none of what AT put in place has improved safety whatsoever.

How many AT staff are going sideways to the elected body?
Speed limits! We see that local deomacy is withheld by the current government to its wim!

Note Brown acknowledges the people who actually do the work...the bus and train drivers.
Yes but according to Brown the bus and train drivers shouldn't be involved. They should only deliver the services
Well done mayor Brown and govt. … now sack and shutdown AT …
Why? Public transport is incredibly important, unless you want more car congestion in your daily commutes, and less car parks everywhere you go.
