Good ideas! I have a funny story about WD40.(which stands for “Water displacing, 40th formulation) I was a young mechanic & newly married and I had occasion to use some WD40 at work. I got home from work & as you know the stuff has a pleasant odor. Well my wife thought for sure it was another woman’s perfume. She was furious! I had to go to a hardware store & buy a can to bring back home & prove to her I wasn’t cheating on her. We both had a good laugh about it.

My girlfriend came through to see what I was doing and the first thing she remarked upon was the lovely smell it left behind. Perhaps I should use it as cologne to make myself irresistible. Haha.
I made this up a few months ago. I share info with a friend who collected tractors. He has used it on three engines that were froze. All three he was able to start. I had to buy another bottle. Thank you for sharing.
Following your suggestions, I just mixed up some acetone & ATF penetrating oil to de-rustify and unstick a couple dozen pairs of pliers, nippers and dykes. I had bad luck with a plastic sprayer bottle, so instead I just used a small glass jar with a lid which allows for frequent shaking to keep the two fluids mixed, then a small cup to drizzle the stuff into the frozen joints. I also used a heat gun on each tool prior to application and a wire brush to remove bulk rust. Every single tool started out frozen stiff and now falls open just through gravity. Takes a bit of time, and it really helps to work the tool back and forth vigorously once you get it open. Only two tools required a second application, and all of them were doused with WD-40 (from my $30 gallon can) after the penetrating oil was wiped off. Now I'm headed to the flea market to earn back the money I spent on fluids, 'cuz the tools themselves cost me next to nothing, since they all came from Dumpsters or yard sales!
If you get a rubber tire valve stem, you can put it on the can's plastic tip after you take the can's removable spray tip off, and use force to make a good seal, then use an air compressor to refill your can with pressurized air.

Scout the BEST penetrant I ever used was called "Rust Eater". A parts guy I've known for decades (Tony DiLoni, gotta love that name) turned me on to it. Trouble was, when I went back for more, it had disappeared. But, I have acetone, I have ATF, so . . .

If you want to give a go to a non-toxic, non-hazardous penetrating lubricant that replaces the WD-40 and PB B'laster, Kroil type of products you can give PlanetSafe AIM a go. Amtrak gave it a test and now use it in their train yards to replace the toxic penetrating lubricants. It even works great in air tools. Elkhart Plastics uses it in all their air tools now at their Ridgefield WA plant.
I think I have heard of this before but since I didn't do anything about it this was a good reminder. Like you, I have all different kinds oil products because I'm always looking for the best. I'll use up what I have and give this recipe a try, thanks.

I took your advice John and bought the gallon of WD 40 with some PET spray bottles. I also have made up some mineral oil and vaseline and put it in the SAME brown oil can you have (Made in USA!!)

We used to call that the Secret Sauce in the bicycle shop. It's a "Solvricant".. Used it to free up rusted cassettes. Make sure to use eye protection when using it.
Nice 'cocktail' lubricant. I have used Marvel Mystery Oil as well with really good results, especially if left overnite. Love your tool restoration vids. No need to throw away an old rusty tool if you can resurrect it. They don't build 'em like they used to.
John, the second time around is even better. Since first seeing your"formula", I haven't bought another can of PB. God knows I always have acetone and ATF on hand. Years ago, I got suckered (Kroil It, Don't Spoil It) into buying a gallon of Kroil. Fuggetaboutit! Eventually, the Kroil gummed up their Aerokroiler (pump oiler) so badly it wouldn't come out. As with most good things, the best I ever used is not made anymore - Rust Eater. My auto parts guy, Tony DeLoni (love that name) turned me on to it, then he couldn't get it anymore,
That mix should be a good gun cleaner/lube, too. I like to use PB Blaster for cleaning guns. It is cheap enough to use it for washing out a MK III action instead of tearing it down. It leaves enough lube in the trigger mechanism, and then I add just a drop or two of oil to the bolt. Pull a snake through the barrel, wipe off excess lube, and you are done. If you have an air compressor you don't have to wait for the action to drip dry overnight.
Hi David- I spent 9 years in the service and got to the point where cleaning firearms lost it’s appeal- before I heard of PB blaster we would bring WD-40 down to the range (even on qualifying days) and spray down the entire rifle after a shoot before the powder had time to take hold. I’m sure PB blaster would work better due to its chemical composition, but what a difference getting some oil on to the action and barrel early makes! Cleanup is a breeze! Now I enjoy plinking with my air rifles... No noise, Cleaning and low cost! Thanks! 😃👍
WD 40 by the gallon, that really takes me back. My father swore by the stuff. Back in the 60s and 70s we had a little 18' bow rider and dad used a "Flit Gun" to spray every bit of metal on the beast. :-)

Zep spray bottle works good. Be careful not to tighten too aggressively on thread collar. I've broke a couple of them. Weak point on a Zep spray bottle.

Threw the whole video I was hoping you would show or recommend my favorite , but apparently it isn't available by you , or you haven't tried it ...I guess it is made by the maker of that spray bottle at the end ....ZEP....During the last years that I worked Construction 2000 threw 2013...I have unfrozen many many bolts , & C-Clamps with ZEP , by just spraying them heavily and waiting 45 minutes or so and working them in ....Best stuff I ever used , I have 2 kinds of Lubricant in my basement ....WD 40 that I let my GF's 19 year old son use , and I keep 2 cans of ZEP hidden in the basement for MY personal use LOL
Hi Dave, I looked on the ZEP website and they have a penetrating oil called ZEP 45. I have never seen that before! I love ZEP products as they all work very well but I never seen the penetrating oil. I will look for it next time I'm at Tractor Supply. Thanks!

So I am going out on a limb here due to marketing most people reach for WD-40 almost reflexively. After doing some work and learning a little about DIY automotive work...I hardly use it anymore. I prefer to use the correct lubricant or fluid for the job and not just slather on WD-40. Also the ATF and acetone is the magic
Hello Matt, Funny you should mention that... When you are a craftsman you tend to cringe everytime you see someone using a tool the wrong way, the same goes with lubricants. The makers of WD-40 are some of the best pitchmen in the industry and many a novice will use WD on anything that moves. I know Mr. Pete gets hot under the collar when you even mention WD! lol I am a lubricant nut, I must have 50 different lubricants and penetrating oils in my shop. WD-40 was developed as a Water Displacement product and because of it's properties it had other uses too. I find it works great as a cleaner. Spray some on a greasy tool and it really cleans the tool up nicely. I never use it as a lubricant or penetrating oil because it isn't designed for such use. Getting road tar off a painted surface, it works great! Cleaning gears before lubrication, Great... The stuff really works great as a cleaner... Nothing beats using the right lube for the right job! @@ScoutCrafter Another use for WD40. It has saved me a few times when the kids have got felt tip pen onto the carpets. Also that toy slime that these kids like to play with, when it is trodden into a carpet and it settles into the fibres as a sticky dirty blob. I spray on the WD40 and let it soak in and penetrate the ink or the slime for 10 minutes or so. Then I will spray on a little more and work it gently in a circular motion with a rag. It comes off leaving the carpet looking perfect - no staining. Definitely saved me the cost of a new carpet more than once. A good tip for parents of young kids who really can't afford to be replacing carpets.
In Canada in my specific location a can of aero Kroil is $60 ($45usd) and that’s just insane I use liquid wrench becuase it’s the best other than Kroil and is cheap
needed some stuff to use on oilstone, ended up mixing baby 'mineral' oil, some dish soap and 1/3 water, works great, doesnt soak in too fast, , also a good anti rust wipe as the water goes and leaves a thin mineral oil coating, heard about acetone and atf, but i doubt if the terrible sprayers in the UK would stand the acetone
Jusb1066- Years back I bought some Starrett Tool Oil- made for lubricating and protecting Starrett tools. I tried it and it worked but looked very familiar- I looked it up on the MSDS and it is Mineral Oil! My 50/50 mix of mineral oil and petroleum jelly (Vaseline) heated up until they mix, is still one of my favorite lubricants! Thanks! 😃👍
The ATF and Acetone are half of Ed's Red. My understanding it is suppose to mimic an old U.S. army gun cleaner. Ed's red has equal parts ATF, Acetone, Varsol and Kerosene. I mixed a batch up years ago and left it in a large jar. After hearing all the stories about it I have just left it there never using it waiting for the time to test it.
Hello A Dude, yes! I heard of that mix! I never tried it but can tell you the 50/50 tranny fluid and acetone mix is amazing! As good as anything I ever used!!! Cheap too!!! 😃👍
I have a friend who uses ATF with petroleum jelly. It also helps to get a box of the long surgical Q-tips. As for Ed's Red I have heard people say if you leave it on too long it has been known to lift the nickle plating off a gun.
When I was in the service we went thru hundreds of those long wooden Q-tips every time we cleaned our rifles... Nickel is pretty but not very durable, that's why Chrome evolved... =)
Hello Simon! That's a good question! You have to be careful with all plastics and rubber that your not sure of! The whole idea of penetrating fluid is one that penetrates! Lots of fluids that do that are also corrosive to some things!!! I wish I knew! Thanks!!!!!!
WD 40 by the gallon is the only way. A few years back they were including a sprayer with the gallon. Best part was it was flat bottom pear shape so it wasnt top heavy. I had 3-4 but now am down to 1. Couple got damaged and 1 quit .
If you put WD-40 in a clear bottle, you'll soon see why it says to shake it up before use.. it rapidly separates it left sitting. The ATF/acetone works great.. but you can see why it isn't sold commercially. It is highly flammable and it will attack many plastics and paints... and expecting the general public to have some sense when using it is expecting a bit much.
I have yet to see my WD-40 separate! I buy it by the gallon and it seems stable! The ATF and Acetone always separates and I shake it every time I use it!! I agree it can attack a lot of surfaces!!!! Acetone is harsh! Thanks!!!!!!!!
I get WD-40 by the gallon as well. I make a point to shake it up (as it says to do on the can) before dispensing it into a squirt bottle. It separates in about and hour or two with a clear upper part and cloudy lower. If I want to lubricate mechanisms, I find that motorcycle cable lubricant in an aerosol can works a treat. About the consistency of light sewing machine oil, it can be sprayed like WD-40. I have several needle oilers that get the most use.. you and put a drop exactly where you need it without getting it all over the place. I do have one of them with the ATF/acetone mixes.. it will flow into a tiny joint and leave the ATF after the acetone evaporates. Hey scoutcrafter, I just bought a harbor freight grinder. The blue one Chicago electric 6 amp with the paddle switch on it. 4 1/2. I heard before you use them you should pull the head off, take out the grease they put in and replace it with something better. What kind of grease do you recommend for that? Much appreciated. Hello Tony! The spray bottle from Ace I think is poly-propolyne the one from Ace is a chemical sprayer but looks like the same material! I will have to look for the triangle and code! The acetone is hard on certain plastics so you need a chemical resistant sprayer! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
I like the smell of PB Superpowerblaster too and Kroil is good but $. I'm going to get a gallon of WD tho. I didn't know it was that cheap by the gal. Had a gal of Kroil and it was over $100. They do all have their good and bad qualities. Do you use any Amsoil products? I find they're usually pretty good as well. Thanks.
I just got done watching your homemade oil videos again because I just received my oil cans from Amazon. Did you know Home Depot doesn’t sell oil cans? I had to buy them on line. Soon I will be making up your concoctions. However, I have a question? There are a dozen oils out there for firearms, all of them expensive. I have used transmission fluid for cleaning all of my firearms, except my Garand. (my baby). Once they are clean I just wipe them down and a nice film of fluid remains on the firearm. What would you suggest as a cleaning / lubricant for firearms?
Hi Vincent- I always used WD-40 right after shooting (at the range!) just to loosen the crud, then when I got home I would use Hoppes #9 and then wipe it down with gun oil, however I am finding for long term use the 50/50 mineral oil/vaseline is a real good protectant! Mineral oil is what Ballistol is made of...
Hi John! I think you are right! The HPDE is much more chemical resistant, acetone is very harsh to plastics and over time can destroy all sorts of components! Thanks very much! 😃👍
Your 50/50 mix of acetone & atf is a tough one. Bottles that are built to handle solvents like acetone may not handle petroleum oils well and vice versa. I guess its really an experimental sort of thing. Im not sure you can really decide just looking at the MDS for them. Im going to try it with some HPDE bottles and see how it works...
John, I've been using the ZEP bottle for a whole and it works ok, not great but just ok, I agree that you have to have the right combination because even though the container might not be effected doesn't mean every component of the trigger and sprayer portion will be ok... The mix is awesome though! Works so good!!!!!!! Thanks!
I have tried the acetone/tranny fluid mix and the problem I have is it always attacks the rubber seals for the container which will cause the fluid to leak out and I’m guessing also causes the acetone to slowly evaporate. I must say though that I have always only used those metal oiler cans like you have there. I have never used a plastic spray bottle made for chemicals. Have you experienced this same issue?
Yes Mike! You have to use a special Chemical resistant sprayer! They sell them commercially... The stuff is great but potent and I guess you can't have one without the other! LOL Thanks!
Would you consider doing a review of wd40 and other multi purpose sprays such as 3 in 1, gt85 etc as I am sure other people other than myself would find it very useful.
Spray cans of WD-40 can cost as much as a hundred dollars to get a gallon, I'll stick with the gallon can for $20 ($17.99 at Walmart right now). WD-40 and your 50/50 Mineral Oil & Petroleum Jelly are my favorite lubes.
The acetone as you know can be quite destructive on certain things like magic marker! However I have yet to have a problem with it harming most paints that are well cured... I wipe any overspray off ASAP! =) Thanks!!!!

Oh, yea, the gallon of WD40 is the way to go! I also use it to make oil mixes. 140w tranny oil and WD40 is a nice combo for drilling, as an example. I work on paint specializing in ceramic coatings. IMHE, detailers have access to the best chemically resistant bottles and sprayers. I have a shelf dedicated to empty bottles - always need one. The best Liquid Wrench was the really old school before they "deodorized" it. It is now 50 state legal no VOCs. They should not be allowed to call that stuff Liquid Wrench. I look for the product with the most warnings on it. The harsher chemicals usually work better.
PB works great but OMG i cant stand the smell. Thats the main reason i started using SeaFoam Deep Creep. Works better and smells better i think anyway. Just my 2.
After viewing all of your videos on various shop lubricants, and thinking about the various properties each ingredient brings to the job, I think the next home brew I make will use a base of odorless kerosene or mineral spirits, about 8 to 16 ounces of a top quality ATF for its detergent and lubricating action, 4 ounces of Acetone for penetration and perhaps 2 to 4 ounces of lacquer thinner for its dissolving and cleaning properties, to make a quart(32 oz.) of spray-on penetrating and cleaning fluid. I hope that does the trick on difficult to remove nuts and bolts, and for cleaning up pliers and the like which are frozen up. If I have any success, I’ll report it.

I call the scent of PB Blaster “failure” because if I have to get that out for a machine, thats usually where I am headed.

as spray lubricant i really like PL-100, it's not really a penetrating oil but it works great as a thin film , and it works well in hot and cold

Zep spray bottle works good. Be careful not to tighten too aggressively on thread collar. I've broke a couple of them. Weak point on a Zep spray bottle.
Thanks for that tip . I have used all but one of those , I never heard of Gibbs before this video . Threw the whole video I was hoping you would show or recommend my favorite , but apparently it isn't available by you , or you haven't tried it ...I guess it is made by the maker of that spray bottle at the end ....ZEP....During the last years that I worked Construction 2000 threw 2013...I have unfrozen many many bolts , & C-Clamps with ZEP , by just spraying them heavily and waiting 45 minutes or so and working them in ....Best stuff I ever used , I have 2 kinds of Lubricant in my basement ....WD 40 that I let my GF's 19 year old son use , and I keep 2 cans of ZEP hidden in the basement for MY personal use LOL
Hi Dave, I looked on the ZEP website and they have a penetrating oil called ZEP 45. I have never seen that before! I love ZEP products as they all work very well but I never seen the penetrating oil. I will look for it next time I'm at Tractor Supply. Thanks!

Hey John man that P.B. smells but works real good.those yellow & blue spray bottles always seem to break on me all the time.they last me about a year.
So I am going out on a limb here due to marketing most people reach for WD-40 almost reflexively. After doing some work and learning a little about DIY automotive work...I hardly use it anymore. I prefer to use the correct lubricant or fluid for the job and not just slather on WD-40. Also the ATF and acetone is the magic
Hello Matt, Funny you should mention that... When you are a craftsman you tend to cringe everytime you see someone using a tool the wrong way, the same goes with lubricants. The makers of WD-40 are some of the best pitchmen in the industry and many a novice will use WD on anything that moves. I know Mr. Pete gets hot under the collar when you even mention WD! lol I am a lubricant nut, I must have 50 different lubricants and penetrating oils in my shop. WD-40 was developed as a Water Displacement product and because of it's properties it had other uses too. I find it works great as a cleaner. Spray some on a greasy tool and it really cleans the tool up nicely. I never use it as a lubricant or penetrating oil because it isn't designed for such use. Getting road tar off a painted surface, it works great! Cleaning gears before lubrication, Great... The stuff really works great as a cleaner... Nothing beats using the right lube for the right job! @@ScoutCrafter Another use for WD40. It has saved me a few times when the kids have got felt tip pen onto the carpets. Also that toy slime that these kids like to play with, when it is trodden into a carpet and it settles into the fibres as a sticky dirty blob. I spray on the WD40 and let it soak in and penetrate the ink or the slime for 10 minutes or so. Then I will spray on a little more and work it gently in a circular motion with a rag. It comes off leaving the carpet looking perfect - no staining. Definitely saved me the cost of a new carpet more than once. A good tip for parents of young kids who really can't afford to be replacing carpets.
In Canada in my specific location a can of aero Kroil is $60 ($45usd) and that’s just insane I use liquid wrench becuase it’s the best other than Kroil and is cheap
needed some stuff to use on oilstone, ended up mixing baby 'mineral' oil, some dish soap and 1/3 water, works great, doesnt soak in too fast, , also a good anti rust wipe as the water goes and leaves a thin mineral oil coating, heard about acetone and atf, but i doubt if the terrible sprayers in the UK would stand the acetone
Jusb1066- Years back I bought some Starrett Tool Oil- made for lubricating and protecting Starrett tools. I tried it and it worked but looked very familiar- I looked it up on the MSDS and it is Mineral Oil! My 50/50 mix of mineral oil and petroleum jelly (Vaseline) heated up until they mix, is still one of my favorite lubricants! Thanks! 😃👍

The ATF and Acetone are half of Ed's Red. My understanding it is suppose to mimic an old U.S. army gun cleaner. Ed's red has equal parts ATF, Acetone, Varsol and Kerosene. I mixed a batch up years ago and left it in a large jar. After hearing all the stories about it I have just left it there never using it waiting for the time to test it.
Hello A Dude, yes! I heard of that mix! I never tried it but can tell you the 50/50 tranny fluid and acetone mix is amazing! As good as anything I ever used!!! Cheap too!!! 😃👍
I have a friend who uses ATF with petroleum jelly. It also helps to get a box of the long surgical Q-tips. As for Ed's Red I have heard people say if you leave it on too long it has been known to lift the nickle plating off a gun.
When I was in the service we went thru hundreds of those long wooden Q-tips every time we cleaned our rifles... Nickel is pretty but not very durable, that's why Chrome evolved... =)
You can also add lanolin to Ed’s Red for better residual lubrication and rust prevention.

Hello Simon! That's a good question! You have to be careful with all plastics and rubber that your not sure of! The whole idea of penetrating fluid is one that penetrates! Lots of fluids that do that are also corrosive to some things!!! I wish I knew! Thanks!!!!!!
my main use for wd40, is cleaning and degreasing. also works great on my cast iron machine tables, such as table saw, band saw etc.

WD 40 by the gallon is the only way. A few years back they were including a sprayer with the gallon. Best part was it was flat bottom pear shape so it wasnt top heavy. I had 3-4 but now am down to 1. Couple got damaged and 1 quit .
If you put WD-40 in a clear bottle, you'll soon see why it says to shake it up before use.. it rapidly separates it left sitting.
The ATF/acetone works great.. but you can see why it isn't sold commercially. It is highly flammable and it will attack many plastics and paints... and expecting the general public to have some sense when using it is expecting a bit much.
I have yet to see my WD-40 separate! I buy it by the gallon and it seems stable! The ATF and Acetone always separates and I shake it every time I use it!! I agree it can attack a lot of surfaces!!!! Acetone is harsh! Thanks!!!!!!!!
I get WD-40 by the gallon as well. I make a point to shake it up (as it says to do on the can) before dispensing it into a squirt bottle. It separates in about and hour or two with a clear upper part and cloudy lower.
If I want to lubricate mechanisms, I find that motorcycle cable lubricant in an aerosol can works a treat. About the consistency of light sewing machine oil, it can be sprayed like WD-40.
I have several needle oilers that get the most use.. you and put a drop exactly where you need it without getting it all over the place. I do have one of them with the ATF/acetone mixes.. it will flow into a tiny joint and leave the ATF after the acetone evaporates.

Hey scoutcrafter, I just bought a harbor freight grinder. The blue one Chicago electric 6 amp with the paddle switch on it. 4 1/2. I heard before you use them you should pull the head off, take out the grease they put in and replace it with something better. What kind of grease do you recommend for that? Much appreciated. Hello Old Coinchaser! I'm so sorry I just got this!!!!!!! I like Mobile One synthetic grease! It is slippery and lasts! Personally I hate grease! I would much rather they had a good old fashioned oiler!!!!! =)

Hello Tony! The spray bottle from Ace I think is poly-propolyne the one from Ace is a chemical sprayer but looks like the same material! I will have to look for the triangle and code! The acetone is hard on certain plastics so you need a chemical resistant sprayer! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

WD-40 aerosol propellant has been lousy for years. I buy the gallon too. I use a WD-40 spray bottle with the separate fill cap. Works good.
I like the smell of PB Superpowerblaster too and Kroil is good but $. I'm going to get a gallon of WD tho. I didn't know it was that cheap by the gal. Had a gal of Kroil and it was over $100. They do all have their good and bad qualities. Do you use any Amsoil products? I find they're usually pretty good as well. Thanks.

I just got done watching your homemade oil videos again because I just received my oil cans from Amazon. Did you know Home Depot doesn’t sell oil cans? I had to buy them on line. Soon I will be making up your concoctions. However, I have a question? There are a dozen oils out there for firearms, all of them expensive. I have used transmission fluid for cleaning all of my firearms, except my Garand. (my baby). Once they are clean I just wipe them down and a nice film of fluid remains on the firearm. What would you suggest as a cleaning / lubricant for firearms?
Hi Vincent- I always used WD-40 right after shooting (at the range!) just to loosen the crud, then when I got home I would use Hoppes #9 and then wipe it down with gun oil, however I am finding for long term use the 50/50 mineral oil/vaseline is a real good protectant! Mineral oil is what Ballistol is made of...

I think for acetone you want HPDE bottles, PET will definitely soften with 100% acetone but with a 50/50 mix it presumably is ok...

Your 50/50 mix of acetone & atf is a tough one. Bottles that are built to handle solvents like acetone may not handle petroleum oils well and vice versa. I guess its really an experimental sort of thing. Im not sure you can really decide just looking at the MDS for them. Im going to try it with some HPDE bottles and see how it works...
John, I've been using the ZEP bottle for a whole and it works ok, not great but just ok, I agree that you have to have the right combination because even though the container might not be effected doesn't mean every component of the trigger and sprayer portion will be ok... The mix is awesome though! Works so good!!!!!!! Thanks!
I have tried the acetone/tranny fluid mix and the problem I have is it always attacks the rubber seals for the container which will cause the fluid to leak out and I’m guessing also causes the acetone to slowly evaporate.
I must say though that I have always only used those metal oiler cans like you have there. I have never used a plastic spray bottle made for chemicals.

Yes Mike! You have to use a special Chemical resistant sprayer! They sell them commercially... The stuff is great but potent and I guess you can't have one without the other! LOL Thanks!
Would you consider doing a review of wd40 and other multi purpose sprays such as 3 in 1, gt85 etc as I am sure other people other than myself would find it very useful.

Spray cans of WD-40 can cost as much as a hundred dollars to get a gallon, I'll stick with the gallon can for $20 ($17.99 at Walmart right now).
WD-40 and your 50/50 Mineral Oil & Petroleum Jelly are my favorite lubes.

The acetone as you know can be quite destructive on certain things like magic marker! However I have yet to have a problem with it harming most paints that are well cured... I wipe any overspray off ASAP! =) Thanks!!!!

Oh, yea, the gallon of WD40 is the way to go! I also use it to make oil mixes. 140w tranny oil and WD40 is a nice combo for drilling, as an example.

It is now 50 state legal no VOCs.

PB works great but OMG i cant stand the smell. Thats the main reason i started using SeaFoam Deep Creep. Works better and smells better i think anyway. Just my 2.

After viewing all of your videos on various shop lubricants, and thinking about the various properties each ingredient brings to the job, I think the next home brew I make will use a base of odorless kerosene or mineral spirits, about 8 to 16 ounces of a top quality ATF for its detergent and lubricating action, 4 ounces of Acetone for penetration and perhaps 2 to 4 ounces of lacquer thinner for its dissolving and cleaning properties, to make a quart(32 oz.) of spray-on penetrating and cleaning fluid. I hope that does the trick on difficult to remove nuts and bolts, and for cleaning up pliers and the like which are frozen up. If I have any success, I’ll report it.
