I absolutely love the idea that the Flagellant is so self abusive, that his “failure” is just a mirror of himself cause it’s the only thing in his life revolving around him that he views in a negative light
"My family is fed, my lands are safe" Thats so heart-wrenching, all the rest of the time acting like he left them all behind and in the end he still remembers that he did it all for them t-t
I love Leper’s version of this. He’s already made peace with the very few things he’s done wrong and instead of fighting himself or some terrible memory, it’s the people working with him when he was king, trying to stop him from helping his own people.
Well it fits perfectly! He only wished to save his people from woe and sorrow, and he did that. Only thing he'd regret is not killing the people holding him back sooner.
My first thought of the Flagellant was "Oh, he is going to be facing death". The moment I saw himself as his greatest failure really brought a pleasant surprise. Does he see himself as a failure because his body is giving out and he is so close to death? Or could it be that he hates the thing he has become?
I think it's more likely that it's just that he is, well, a flagellant. He revels in his own suffering to a degree that it is his own demise, but yet he keeps living to always endure pain, even defying death to do so. So his failure is himself because he can never enjoy his satisfaction of pain, and unlike everyone else in the cast, he will never get over it. Or that's my take anyways.
To me it might be that he has no conscience at all and the Boss struggles to find anything to make him feel remorse so it tries (and fails) to scare him by showing him what kinda monster he became.
Bounty Hunter: "...One bet I should have never made.." "Thats it...the bounty's paid..." Antiquarian: "I have betrayed everyone for that treasure" "At last I see what it was all along, worth more than all the treasures in the world"
Every Hero seeing their past failures come to life: "Ha! A mere remembrance of my past! A human hurdle already surpassed, if nothing more!" The rest of the party: "Together we endure!!!!" Occultist's failure come to life: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!" The rest of the party: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!"
Highwayman has a pretty good line that I got when I FIRST encountered the boss and you defeat his failure. "No more running- I'm FINALLY. FREE." (all I remember is the finally free bit so its a tad inaccurate)
I love how the jesters failure is him failing to forget about the melody that that made him popular In fact you can hear him whistling it when he gets attacked by his shade
Interesting, the failures they faced are not just the consequence of their mistakes, some of them are the reminders of their failure or what makes them a failure. Like Highwayman's spectre is prison guard in chapter 1 instead of coach gaurd in chapter 4, to remind him is already a failure as a crimial. Hellion's spectre is the widow of her fallen clan member remind her how she failed her clan. Jester's specture is the violinist in graveyard who teaches him the melody that brought him forturne and doom. Leper's spectre is his treacherous subjuct who abused his benevolent, in the end he had to purge the court to perserve his kingdom. Runaway's spectre is her abusive caretaker in orphnage who made her a pyromania and doomed her foster family later. Flagellant's specture... he just like it that way, is he not? Crusader's specture is the warlord which is the most intriguing, in chapter 5 Crusader's family was decribed as "the boy and his mother" instead of "his son and wife", the warlord had pushed him to be a ultimate warior, but he's ashamed of his failure as a father and husband. As he slew the specture and came to reailize his choice was right, he joined the rank so his family is fed, and his crusade make his homeland save.
It's just an endurance test, who can eat more pain before they fall? The only person that can truly test the Flagellant on this kind of thing is himself.
I dragged most unbalanced and braindead team here, alchemist, soloist, yellowhand and wanderer flagellant, thought I'd choose someone to die so chose jester, graveyard violinist popped out, i thought "oh damn so that guy is really that important to story" he was invincible, jester couldn't attack 1 and 4 positions from pos 3 and I thought that it just gives me some time to use jester before killing him, so i kept blighting the boss, jester was living really long and i started to think that something's not right, browsed the internet, got that you should kill the ghost with jester, had no attacks so I kept healing and him just for little angels to not appear, and by the time I remembered I had finale on jester ghost was hitting him for 20hp, eventually killed ghost after healing jester for 8 times, and this was my only ghost kill, so I blighted the boss for about 600 hp. Other 200 i guess was with bleed and highwayman crits, it was really easy, comparing to act 2 that I tried to beat for 30 runs, act 3 and 4 surprisingly was beaten at my first time, got lucky with death's door too, flagellant was only one alive for after boss of 3rd act, for act 5 i was trying to use some other teams beside the blight/bleed for about 15 runs, had no success with them so got my usual one and beat it with ease. Thanks for showing other ghosts, it could be really cool if it wasn't that unintuitive, I mean I could choose vestal with only buffs and heals and I would have no way to kill ghosts at all. Yeah I'm a filthy casual indeed
@@DolusVulpes I'm less asking "what would an external mod that let you do so easily entail" and more "what would happen if you used mods/hacks/file editing/etc to bring the Bounty Hunter into this battle"? Would the game crash, when it tries to load a "Failure" for BH? Would it simply not spawn one at all? Or is there some other default option the game would resort to?

bruh whaa. I was just critslamming his ass by 40-50 dmg/hit via crusader and plague doc, in 10 turns round. Devs for real thought what someone will not actually ignore those pesky baby demons and just desolate the boss☠️☠️☠️♿🚽⚠️
The boss was actually made in a way that you can do it either the regular way, critslamming it or a mixture of both. Just in case you brought a team with one or two character built mainly for support along.

Also making him fight a villager leper begging for mercy might have been too gruesome

He regretted having invited those treacherous snakes in his court

I literally had PTSD the moment i saw shambler for occultist's failure....
Bounty Hunter: "...One bet I should have never made.."
"Thats it...the bounty's paid..."
Antiquarian: "I have betrayed everyone for that treasure"
"At last I see what it was all along, worth more than all the treasures in the world"

So cool thing about the bounty hunter is that when he faces his failure, he literally refuses to face his failure.
*A random sheriff appears
-so, what happened with him?

bounty hunter's failure is the player, but the mf is already in the match
obviously jk, but it is pretty funny that BH has been *this* successful.

Not going to lie. When i chose the occultist to fear his failure i didnt expect the shambler. I remember saying "oh well, run is dead"

I wonder what happens if you manage to get the Bounty Hunter in here, whether through modding or what have you.
I mean if it's through modding then it'll heavily depend on the modder's interpretation of the character most likely
