We put up "fake grass", custom build furniture made from pallet wood, a lounge char, bar stool for sipping coffee near the railing, and wrap the entire balcony in festive lights! What an amazing view!
I've always wanted to use my construction and creative skills to build a super tiny off grid house or living space. This is what I came up with, a small cube, raised up off the ground on cedar post stilts to both protect from the elements, save on foundational requirements, and provide an epic view of the pond and surrounding forest!
The shell of the cube is completely wrapped in kerdi waterpoof membrane made by Schluter, including the flat roof to give The Cube, it's unique look.
Regular framing forms the structure of The Cube which is bolted to the cedar posts supports. I have used reclaimed materials for nearly all of the construction, from the lumber, to the windows and doors. The aluminum door is cut from a full frame garage door and purposely narrow to permit more wall space for bedding and sitting.
The upright door is only meant to access the wrap-around porch, while the lower hatch serves for entry and exit. It is also cut small to keep the space useful.
Inside, The Forest Cube doesn't feel cramped because of the big front window opening up the space to the forest and pond that surround it. The view is amazing! The pond area will grow in with lush vegetation by next spring and the waters be filled with wildlife, fish and frogs, and our pet ducks!
In time, the tiny forest cube off grid house will be complete with sleeping quarters, or bunk beds, a sitting area, or food prep area, indoor wood heating, and a wrap-around porch seating area.
Other features to be added to the space will include indoor lighting supplied by a quiet battery generator and unique decor such as a 'floating ceiling.'

I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.
This has quickly become my favorite channel. I like how you save and use EVERYTHING. Good humor and quality craftsmanship.

Under the cube you should make a couple of bench swings and dining room table and BBQ area again with an outdoors kitchen and fireplace!

In the space under the deck you should level it out, Put more astro turf down, Possibly up on a small platform you build on the ground, then put a huge swinging bird nest chair. And what i would do if i had that, I would put Lattice on 3 sides and put fake or real vines on the lattice so its like youre in a small cave. Then lined with flowerr pots and plants of all sizes and shapes along the walls.. The possibilities are endless!!!

Make a bad weather hang out space underneath the cube. Some chairs maybe some folding down awnings to shed rain. Sunken fire pit so you can cook something and be out of the weather. Need to set the bottom area so you can set up hammocks for guests.

@@jeffnsav1 Since he now has a ladder to the deck, he could replace the ladder to inside the cube with a Fire Pole to slide down for quick escape. I would have thought a hammock would be good for the top level since it doesn't hang on to rain

Best cube ever! Now all you need is an outdoor kitchen under it and it’s a tiny house!
Looks good. Hammock's underneath it? Counter top with sink for cleaning fish later? Benches attached to cube's legs? Ground blind? Little cube playhouse for kids? Wood storage bin? Tunnel to cabin? Screened in sitting area underneath so it keeps the open feel? Swing for two? Place to sit down to put on skates later to ice skate? Which brings us back to benches. Just throwing out ideas for under it.

Two things ... as far as pallet wood goes the best score I've made was a bunch of mahogany ... apparently they ship mahogany wood on mahogany pallets! ... next thought is about the ladder from the ground to the deck. Bad idea, maybe, as one morning I bet you wake up to bigfoot lounging on your roof munching on your astroturf ... Very hard to get them to leave once they get comfortable.

Niiiiice, looks very comfortable. You definitely have to have a swing underneath or a hammock. Maybe mimick the terrace so that when you have inclement weather sitting outside is still an option because it's under cover. Love the video, can't wait to see the sauna you have planned. 15:40 This is a great tip! Additionally, on doors where security is actually of concern, you may want the strike plate to fit very close, as that inner edge of the plate is responsible for engaging the anti-shim feature on your door knob. If you are able to push/pull on your door and hear another "click," that means the deadlatch plunger/button is snapping back out past the strike plate, and your latch bolt isn't fitted tightly enough.
I didn't know you could adjust them though! I just figured the only way was to buy a new strike plate.
