  • Driving along the main road from Yallahs to
Morant Bay or vice versa you can see views
    of the Yallahs Ponds.
The Yallahs Ponds are steeped in myths and
Folklore. One story about the origin of the
ponds were that two brothers were in love
with the same woman and one marry her. The
wife slept with the other brother and the
husband cried and his tears formed the
ponds drowning his wife and brother.
Another popular story is that two brothers
were quarrelling over their right to inherit the
land that it sank under the weight of the
    disagreement. A more scientific, explanation
is that the ponds were formed by a landslide
which occurred during the great 1692
earthquake. One thing for sure is that the
ponds are a focal point when travelling from
Yallahs to Morant Bay or vice versa.
    Interesting Facts
    1. There was an artemia project at the Yallahs
    Pond.
    2. Residents collect salt from the shores for personal use and as a commercial activity.
    3. In 2013 and 2014 a foul odour emanated
from the Yallahs Pond could be smelled in
    Kingston.

Instead of the music, i love to hear some intelligence on its origin, is life in it and other worthwhile information. Thanks for the view anyway.

Whenever I used to passed there I could see lots of salt washed out on side of the shore or embankment and at certain times a strong smell came from the water
