djnee I just wanted to say a big thank you for making this 42 year old Bristolian so happy - hearing this again! This was a really magic time growing up and partying to DnB in Bristol!
You're so welcome, Chris! It was a mindblowing set wasn't it? And simulcast on BBC2 and Radio 1 at the same time, which was a first :) Glad you enjoyed the upload, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Regards, Neil
Never bettered. I had this on VHS recorded when it went out on BBC2. It still fills me with as much excitement as it did when I first saw it. It was probably my first experience of seeing people play electronic music live and see that there is still room for begin able vibe off each other and create a real sense of fun and electricity as performers
Who does not integrate this into the repertoire of the great musical classics of our civilization, you will not be able to understand that technologies of communication and information have changed everything. This sounds represents the techno-scientific revolution which we passed in our civilization
Randomly, my brother, one of my best friends and I took magic mushrooms the night this was shown live on bbc2. Yeah we'd heard drum n bass by then but this kind of live performance, legendary to this day was a religious experience that night
I heard / watched this during the original BBC simulcast, and was just hitting 16. 31 now and this still sends shivers down my back when I watch it. I cursed myself back then for not having a C90 in the machine. So, so glad someone else did :D
No problem mate!! Really glad you found this and appreciated the work involved! Have a great day my friend. All the best from Australia (previously Cornwall, UK)!
Hey Ed! Yeah, i almost didn't bother to record on c90 as i was watching it anyway on BBC2...but really glad i did now. This set is so epic, and still remains one of my faves til this day. Thanks for taking the time to comment mate, and really glad there are others out there who are enjoying the upload :) Have a great Christmas....and Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for going this. I was 15 when this was on, and I still remember watching it and being completely mind blown that there was such thing as live drumming dnb!
I've already shared it on Facebook! Respect for taking the time to put it all together, it was defo worth it! Saw them at Reading Festival 98 in the Full Cycle Tent, it was probably the best gig I've ever been to. Later in the day we were in the Baracadi Tent dancing to Gilles Peterson and the whole Reprazent crew including Roni came in and started dancing with everyone!
Thank you Jeebus! I recorded this on VHS back in the day and watched it approximately 1 million times before the tape fucked up. This is about as good as Drum n Bass gets, and should be compulsory watching for all younger heads. Thanks for the upload, you've made my day :)
Saw them at Roskilde in the late 90's/2000 and I'm glad my memory on their stage equipment wasn't entirely off. That's a heck of a lot of keyboards/synths/monitors, so I always figured I must have remembered it wrongly.
5:38 is like the part in The Wizard of Oz when it changes from black and white into colour. Thanks for the time spent improving something which was already good!
Thank you so much for posting and sparkling up the audio! I first saw this when it was broadcast and to a 24 year old rock/funk/jazz/prog and aspiring drum and bass/jungle fan this was an eye-opener! And i can still see myself so blown away I ended up dancing round my livingroom absolutely enthralled. Changed my drumming world. Love the enhanced sound kick in at 5 mins 40-ish. Love it!
Cheers for the comment! And yeah, this was a weird one for me due to the fact that i had Roni Size share this video on his Facebook a few years ago as it appears that this is the best version on the internet of this set! I'd have thought he'd have a copy from the BBC of the original footage, but it seems not. I'm so glad i decided to hit record on my tape deck that evening....
Wow, I can't believe the amount of effort it took to bring this whole experience together and to be so, so good live. Excellent work stitching footage and audio together!
Was just enjoying this to the maximum when I scrolled down and read all of the effort you went to to produce and upload it. Thanks a million, it's made my life better getting to enjoy this.
Thank you so much for doing this. I prayed to the DnB gods that someone would upload one of the most influential and formative moments of my early teens onto youtube. And like the first time, I'm blow away...again!
Can't listen too often to this. When everything else fails to get me working I return here. The audio job is amazing, thank you so much for spending the time and making this accessible to us, djnee.
This is perfect. Everything I could ever want from a live DnB performance. Everything is right there. I am getting some SERIOUS chills watching this. Sick. I am so inspired. Thanks for the upload mate!
DJNEE.... good job man... I have this on vhs but the yrs have taken their toll on it. And your right this is epic and a piece of urban history. So glad you put in all the effort. 🤘peace.
I can't thank you enough for posting this and putting so much effort into it. I saw the set in Toronto at (the now closed) Industry Nightclub. It's been twenty years and I still can't get it out of my head! The show was incredible. Thanks again, you're a hero
as always with the BBC, it probably depends on what they consider worth archiving, and budget. It will take time and money to transfer original pro video tape to digital, and might need tweaking or even restoration too. I'm no professional. It would be great to see though, along with the Mercury awards performance, and Later with Jools Holland.
They do have it in the archives, I requested and was given a copy of it. Whether or not they choose to upload it is another matter though unfortunately
Hi mate :) Yes....not my doing! I pitched shifted ALL of the audio, then matched the video....so it's not like some parts of the audio are one pitch and then other parts are adjusted by me. I believe they call it a 'technical hitch' :)
This is still a great tune. 25 years on. The peak of DnB.
djnee I just wanted to say a big thank you for making this 42 year old Bristolian so happy - hearing this again! This was a really magic time growing up and partying to DnB in Bristol!
So happy to help! As a Cornish D&B head now living in Australia..... thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers!
@@DJNee Loving it from Vietnam and NYC thanks !
I cant believe I found this ! I remember being 15 years old with my headphones plugged into my TV watching this.
Thank you @djnee and TH-cam

The energy in this performance, it never gets boring, really unbelievable!!!:)
Yes kradomc.....i could watch this all day, every day, and not get bored!!!! Back from a different era in drum and bass...
@@DJNee2024, still sensational!😃
I never get bored watching this, the drummer and bass player have got it down.
And make it look easy
I'm in dnb the bubble again.x
I appreciate the work you went through to make the audio quality better!!! THANK YOU!!! This is such a magical set.
Never bettered. I had this on VHS recorded when it went out on BBC2. It still fills me with as much excitement as it did when I first saw it.

props to the drummer for keeping up

For any that don't know -- They played this live!! Three drummers, basist, they played this loop music live!
i dont think any other electronic album will come close to new forms. this set is insanely cool
Randomly, my brother, one of my best friends and I took magic mushrooms the night this was shown live on bbc2. Yeah we'd heard drum n bass by then but this kind of live performance, legendary to this day was a religious experience that night
Greatness stands the test of time.
It is the complete "New Forms" album sound set in one piece. Fabulous
Listeners must be in their 40's. I'm 42 and I love this
47 and loving it! Appreciating more and more as I get older that the crossover between d’n’b, hip hop and jazz is beautiful
@@richjl73 Im 38. I love Roni Size and his band,

Remember seeing this set a the time. Blown away then and happy to say blown away now!
Saw this at the time......I thought ‘Whoooooaaaa’.....still think the same. Groundbreaking stuff, and love the drummers one handed breaks.

Wicked brings so many memories remember this on bbc back then. And seeing these guys at glastonbury 97 wet but worth it.
Absolute classic! Still sounds amazing 17 years later...(the drums!)
The vibe is just so amazing on this :) Glad you enjoyed it. All the best, Neil

PCs and equipment have evolved far beyond what they were back then, but today's music has degenerated...
This is EPIC! Thanks for putting in so much work on this!
BLINDIN' upload man! Watched this when it was broadcast. Top stuff!
I read about this in Keyboard magazine (or equivalent) back in the late 90's. So glad to finally watch it. Thank you for all your hard work.
Ladies and gentlemen, Jason Statham on bass
GREAT ❤❤❤
REALLY well done with your efforts on this clip! MAN that audio from 5m 40s on wards!!!!!!! Fantastic!
man, what an awesome set -- I saw them live at the Trocadero in Philly so many years ago and it still sounds off the hook... thanks for the upload!!
This is just stunning - has this set ever been released on record? If not, it's a criminal waste.
amazing, thank you for uploading this and for your work!!!
Thx for commenting...all the best from Australia!
This is some deluxe right here. Classic yo. Classic
i remember thinking at the time " now the masses will know " :) good call bud :)
Bad boy
Surely the BBC have an archival quality version that they should really be sticking on TH-cam?
I've thought the same thing!! It would be amazing to have a complete version uploaded :)
