hi, i have a SIB, 84lbs 3m inflatable with air floor. 6hp 4stroke, trim pin at 1st position by transom. i just can't get it to go faster than 8mph, can't plane. total weight of passengers+cargo+engine 390lbs do i need a bigger engine? or ride with 1 passenger only. with one passenger it would weigh, 295lbs
Yes you need more power. Check and see what your SIB is rated for and let your wallet be your guide. I have seen 12 foot center console boats with 35 hp and a 14 ft long, wide beam jon with a 70 jet drive.
I was working on a 1995 Johnson 140 hp and I was about to plane off and the motor was trimmed too high and it jumped outta the water with a huge roar and scared Me.. lol.. I'm an experienced Boater but I Wasn't thinking about lowering the trim down farther so the motor doesn't lose the water but it did and it was scary but the old Gal still had power. . Burned alot of gas tho.. No longer a motor You want to drive around all day with. . About a litre per kilometer.. If not more. .
Make sure you adjust the trim gradually and always increase speed slowly as you proceed with this. Cavitation causes this prevailing circumstance - happened to me as a 12 year old once. As lomg as it is only cavitatating for a few seconds, that's all that matters. But prolonged cavitation at high speeds can damage the intake valve and gas line, result in a very pragmatically severe issue. It can also here the boat, throwing your passengers into the bow or even over. I hope you, like myself, wear you'd lanyard safety kill switch cord. It saves lives. I've been boating since I was 7, and have witnessed very severe situations involving that. One time a guy's boat was circling around him, as he took a very sharp turn and was ejected out of the boat with the throttle in forward at a high rate if speed, and with a full tank of gas. How stupid some people are. They take a theoretical boating test and think they are expert boaters. Let's see the even attempt to confront 5 - 7 ft waves, and use Channel 16 to make a distress call on mstone radio. I'm currently obtaining my ferry license. Regsrding the retard in the boat, I called him and he was charged with negligence, as be should be. You don't have a right to put yourself and others, as well as private property at risk just at cost of your fun. James walker: The boating instructor
we all need a little trim
Great video , insightful thanks cobber
Good visuals....thanks.
Man, nice but cut the crappy music !
A engine doesn't cavitate. A propeller does that. Maybe you ment that the engine starts to ventilate?
