I actually own 3 copies of this book... I ordered one from ThriftBooks and I received the other two yesterday in a book lot I purchased. I’m gonna give my niece a copy, she likes Goosebumps. I plan on reading this soon, maybe tonight. God bless you, Michael! 🙏🏻
I haven't read a ton from this one but what I read was fun enough with the troll stuff and seaman creature stuff lol. Muglani stuff...eh. but not that bad. Can't judge all the way but i liked it fine from what I saw. There are 50 GYGB total, you've done 35, so that's over half of them. Maybe do Ship of Ghouls if you want a stronger one again.
Even though now I think this book is meh, it'll always hold a special place in my heart. My middle school library had this book (and no other GYGB's unfortunately) and it was my introduction to the series when I was in 2nd grade or so, so 7-8 y.o. would put in '97 or '98. EDIT: and I'm catching up on your last couple months of content, but if you haven't covered it yet I suggest Zombie School (GYGB #40)
This was my first GYG book, and I remember finding it good, but of course, I respect if you didn't like it. I'll have to re-read to check if I see what you mean about the jungle not being used as much as it could (though I may get it, as you're in a cave for most of one of the stories), but if that is the case, then yeah, that could be a flaw, despite my positivity towards the book as a whole - a jungle sounds like such a great place to have an adventure (to the point that I aim to write about doing so myself if at least some of my projects), so it's a shame if it wasn't used to its full potential. Cronby is indeed one of the monsters used for The Goosebumps Movie, not that it really matters, because not only are most of them background monsters, they aren't even credited (I like the movie, I just think they handled identifying the monsters not as well as they could.) I personally didn't find anything telling that R.L. didn't write this one, but I always took it at face value that he wrote these books, even though I know now that he didn't write all of them ("All Day Nightmare" is confirmed ghostwritten, as I'm sure you know.) The only ones I assumed were ghostwritten from the beginning were "Night in Werewolf Woods" and "The Knight in Screaming Armor" due to them doing the choices in a different style to the other books, but the same as each other. I will note, that there is a typo in this book where Zoe is called "Liz" on one page, which is the name of "your" friend in the next book in the series, which suggests to me that this book and that one were written by the same person - regardless of whether it is R.L. or not (alternatively it could just mean that "your" friend was originally called Liz, but it later got changed to Zoe.) Hope you didn't mind the long comment. :)
The thing about this one is that it's an adventure book, and has nothing to do with horror. I really liked it for that aspect but it does feel very out of place in the series, which I think is what threw you for a loop.
This is one of the best books with one of the best covers. I’m not sure what to think of you view on goosebumps in general anymore since you hate ever book I liked.
I loved this book, and the cover art.

Do you know what the fruit in the book does? And like where the fruit is found?

I had fun with this one, I'm honestly surprised you didn't like it at all. It wasn't amazing or anything but I think I gave it a 3.5 / 5
"You couldn't become your own monster. You became a ripoff." 😂
