This was amazing and I get exactly what you shared about relationships. Your choice of background music and your storytelling skills are fantastic. When you move that desk in, and she reaches out to your elbow and looks at you with that smile on her face shows how much she loves you, and that she knows how much you love her. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Loved this. Perhaps the most enjoyable part for me was just how genuine the whole video was. One of your incredible talents as a story teller is making everything so relatable and just your down to earth honesty. It's refreshing. If you ever decided to move from Denver you would fit in pretty well in Australia. Actually, now that I think about it you'd fit in pretty well anywhere.
An epic tale of what appeared to be a simple project, becoming a journey into the unknown. Wonderful to see your baby crawling around, and so sorry for the loss of your dog. The "shed" looks great, but it has become and represents much more than just those 4 little letters strung together.
Stop. You had me at "shed." I haven't cried in who knows how long, but this Shed DIY video made me squirt tears twice in less than 15 minutes. My dog of 15 years, Maggie, died less than a month before my second son was born (7 years ago). I still miss her so much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on love and sheds. Fucking beautiful.
Love is a Brother printer that will never let you down. I have that same one. But seriously what a momentous video in your family history. So much is happening. RIP Rolf.
I'm not hyperbolizing when I say this is one of the best youtube videos I've ever watched. Honestly so many layers, covering life's most important moments.
Awesome work. The ultramarathon parallel is fitting. It’s amazing what can be accomplished by putting one foot in front of the other with unquenchable persistence. True grit. 🤘
Darn it Brendan.......totally impressive!! Soon enough, you will have Jay to assist you with such projects. I have to say, the fifteen minutes you took out of my life to view this "journey" was so very much worth it. Just know that your efforts are appreciated by many. CHEERS!
this is probably the only 15-minute video about a SHED that I will ever use to happily procrastinate getting to work in the morning. lovely storytelling, as always.
......and sorry about your beautiful dog. Been there, as have most of us. Never easy, but I know you gave that dog a loving and good life. AND, congratulations on the arrival of Jay. So many more adventures await you and your wife. CHEERS AGAIN!
I can't wait to watch this again with my wife after work today. Your videos are always so damn good, and this one...maybe a bit more than usual (which is saying a lot)!
I enjoyed that! Fairly similar story about my wife's office in 2021. We turned a carport on the side of the garage into an office. Though I kind of knew what I was doing 20 years previous when I'd worked construction for a couple winters after high school, and we started the project when my wife was just 3 months pregnant. We worked on it the whole summer, almost never together because we had different days off, and I had fewer than normal given how busy fire season was in the Methow that year. Finished it a couple weeks before our daughter was born, but we then had to add walls and doors to the den in the house that my wife had been using as an office to turn it into a room. Just barely got it livable by the time she was born. The door into the room still isn't stained, it showed up when our daughter was a month or so old. I loved the project. Well, except putting 3 layers of foam insulation into the ceiling. Stop by next time you're in Winthrop.
This was amazing. I feel so much of this - our pup died the week before our kids were born - and my husband renovated our shed to be my office when covid sent us all home. As always your storytelling tugs at the heart and made me feel like I was right there with you. So sorry about Rowlf.
This was fantastic! As someone who is married to a guy who always says “I’ll do it myself, how hard could it be”, I know how hard these DIY projects can sometimes be 😂 Also, seeing your sweet Rowlf was lovely 🧡🐶
Such great insight into real life, and much more relatable than a how-to video would have been! Currently working on building a bookshelf that was originally supposed to be a *quick* weekend project…back in December
This was great. I've followed you for years and really like your emails and missives. Plus you share a first name with my husband. Who is a carpenter and shows his ❤many ways to me through his work around our house.
And I forgot to mention your tribute to Rawlf when he died was one of the most powerful things I've ever read. Losing him while welcoming your baby was so poignant.
This was great! I loved the video, the story, and the end product! I'm working on DIY Renovating my own house right now and could relate more than once. You rock. Year of maximum enthusiasm was my first introduction to you 6 years ago. I read it every year and every year I love it. Keep it up! Congrats and thank you
So, I wasn't going to watch this video. And then I did. All of it. Nice job. Brendan? You're a good partner to Hillary. Also: there won't be a next time but if there is? Tear down the heptangular shed and just effin' build a rectangular one. Also: I'm still sad about your dog. I remember what you wrote, and when I walk my big German Shepard mix, Dave, I always do my best to let him take all the time he needs to sniff stuff.
Congrats, Brendan! Nice story, I bet it was such a good feeling when you laid that hammer down for the last time (for now - soon you'll need to add on a toddler wing...)
Great video, I was doing tile in my house before Turkeyday. Somehow pinched a nerve in my neck. Still can’t feel my finger, but PT kept the surgeon away. We are aging bud!
Great video, but I still tear up every time you mention your dog even in your newsletters (I lost mine almost exactly the same time), so seeing him in the videos was rough. Love the project and the results!
For someone who professes to have no frickin' clue what they're doing, you've built a fully-rad shed. This shed is much more than its timber and nails.
Even more good advice. Side note you are one of my favorite creators, I have a few of your books, always get excited when I see your name on projects, and I’m just a huge fan. I have always wanted to be a writer and creator and am currently a stay at home dad, thanks for inspiring me to really going for it. This year my goal is to just get one thing published, even if I am publishing it myself…..somehow.
Doctor: What happened? Me: I don't know, I just woke up on the ground underneath this ladder and this big sheet of OSB Hilary: Here, watch this video of this dumb shit
When you love someone you find yourself doing all sorts of laborious tasks just waiting for them to say they love them. I’ve been married for 49 years I know a few things.
I was a licensed general contractor. When we were stymied by a situation that wasn't going together perfectly, someone would just say, "We're not building a clock", and we'd move on.

ah thank you! I mean, being bad at stuff is very relatable, as a baseline

never underestimate the power of dogged persistence + delusional optimism
Another absolute belter of a video from the wonderful creative mind of Brendan Leonard. This resonates very true with me.
This is soooo good!!! A lot of creative magic is gonna be born in that little shed.
thank you, sir 🙏
You are the F'ing man and the storytelling is fantastic. Sorry for the loss, I love all dogs.
Great story and project. And...could not help but notice your steel drum ice tub for cold water immersion! Wim Hof would be proud...

I wish all the world's joy to you and your family! :) Thank you for sharing the project
Bravo my friend. BRA-frickin-VO.
thank you, my friend 🙏
I love this video! I was laughing out loud, as the kids say. Well done sir!
So sorry about Rowlf. Loved your video. Heading into my own shed rebuild in Spring. Wish me luck.

I feel like you should stain that door as a high school graduation present
I loved this. So sorry about Rowlf. The shed turned out awesome!
That was awesome Brendan. Exactly what I needed this morning.
An all-too relatable 'easy dyi project.' love the community involvement - great finishes product too!
What a beautiful gesture, and an excellent video despite documentation hiccups!

damn, I'm sorry. It's amazing how many people that's happened to-heard many stories about it when Rowlf died.
This was fantastic! As someone who is married to a guy who always says “I’ll do it myself, how hard could it be”, I know how hard these DIY projects can sometimes be 😂 Also, seeing your sweet Rowlf was lovely 🧡🐶
famous last words!
Great job, great video, great perseverance, great act of love!
This is awesome Brendan! Thanks for sharing your life with us all!
Incredible work. And a pretty cool shed, too.
Haha! You are steadily turning into @BeauMiles!
I feel like - somehow - Beau spent a little less on the shed he built for his wife. Of course, he doesn’t live in Montana.
definitely inspired by Beau Miles but those are big shoes to fill!
Did you ever sleep? Incredible and talented; your resolve to finish this is impressive. Kudos and enjoyed seeing the process!
surprisingly, having a baby wake us up every 2-3 hours for several weeks pretty much cured my insomnia ... for a while
Such great insight into real life, and much more relatable than a how-to video would have been! Currently working on building a bookshelf that was originally supposed to be a *quick* weekend project…back in December
Also have our own Umarell of sorts next door who said he wants to see the “Michaelangelo” bookshelf when it’s finally finished haha
hahaha the sistine chapel of bookshelves then
@@semi_rad I think he's going to be gravely disappointed

good luck! I mean, have fun. I mean, well, you know.
Awesome video - your mom is the best!
Awesome Job!!

I love your videos. Sorry for your loss, congratulations on your gain.
Congrats, Brendan! Nice story, I bet it was such a good feeling when you laid that hammer down for the last time (for now - soon you'll need to add on a toddler wing...)
I was actually going to make a "no boys allowed" treehouse sign but haven't gotten around to it yet
shoutout to Floating Action in the soundtrack! One of my all time favorite bands.
Great video, I was doing tile in my house before Turkeyday. Somehow pinched a nerve in my neck. Still can’t feel my finger, but PT kept the surgeon away. We are aging bud!
I feel your pain-er, numbness, I mean
I loved this. What a gift.
this made me happy to watch
Looks great! Now I'm more motivated to update my own shed for the same purpose. Thanks a lot?
nice work! Sorry about Ralph, congrats on the baby!
Great video, but I still tear up every time you mention your dog even in your newsletters (I lost mine almost exactly the same time), so seeing him in the videos was rough. Love the project and the results!
ah man, I'm sorry. Yeah, finding footage + photos from that time period was pretty rough
Love the video and it made my day. Thanks for posting it.
I see your climbing skills come in handy.
getting those sheets of decking on the roof was V1-V2ish for sure!
I really liked this.
For someone who professes to have no frickin' clue what they're doing, you've built a fully-rad shed.
This shed is much more than its timber and nails.
thank you! I'll check back in 10 years and report if it's still standing/waterproof
I took away so much from this video. The biggest one, that I do intact deserve those overalls
my only gripe about them is that the straps are elastic, so as they stretch out, the crotch gets lower and lower ...
Even more good advice.

The line about H having evidence for the doctor made me laugh/snort so hard that the dog jumped.
Doctor: What happened?
Me: I don't know, I just woke up on the ground underneath this ladder and this big sheet of OSB
Hilary: Here, watch this video of this dumb shit
When you love someone you find yourself doing all sorts of laborious tasks just waiting for them to say they love them. I’ve been married for 49 years I know a few things.
That was a great video... Better than HGTV.
Absolutely loved this
One of your best ever!
Well this was just beautiful. And I love your well placed “f*ck”s.
thank you! I almost bleeped them, but then I remembered I had written them out, so I just said fuck it and left them in
Love your videos mate! Bloody good story!
If you can do it, then I can do it. Except I don't want to...yet.
im wondering out dua lipa videos got me to this but cool shed. nice work!
RIP Rowlf 😢
Also, this was a great video
Thanks, Marc 🙏
I don't know, Brendan. Looks like a decent "How-to" video to me.
Luv the Shakespearean approach to building a shed, "...this was a fkng shed not a cathedral!" Haaaaa!
