I love the story of how Brailes was created, literally just a blind kid who doesn't like the current way blind reading is done, so he makes his own system. Gotta love that
You would be surprised of how much that is the drive for technology evolution. We are always finding new ways to do stuff easier and more efficiently and sometimes yes, it's a kid who come up with a brilliant idea that becomes the world standard.
I actually read a book about this in 6th grade, he got tired of the bs that was the "owl alphabet" if I remember the name correctly and made his own thing, spreading it around the school for disabled people he went to at the time

I love their relationship, theres so supportive of each other and seem to have a lot of fun. Im sure they have their hard days like everyone but they seem like they really try to stay positive.

Y’all are so incredible, I feel like I’m just completely dumping on your inbox… I found you to this morning and I have not been able to sleep I’ve had horrible anxiety I have two cats that need surgery and I am the one who’s the crazy cat person mentioning all my cats in this thread. I have been so inspired to learn sign language in the past but I feel ridiculous having to blind animals and never even having thought about learning braille. In fact I feel not guilty because I’m going to do it but I wish I had thought about it sooner. I appreciate this encouragement and ASL along with braille is going to be what I commit myself to. They’re both such beautiful forms of communication

I taught myself the basics. The library has a large collection of braille books, both children and adults. 🥰
you can also use half of an egg carton ( a dozen one) and tennis balls or other balls in the holes, for a tactile braille cell
