    However "cheap" or "affordable" or "competitively priced" this car is, the most important impact it will have is to put price pressure on everyone else.

    • @jesper463
      @jesper463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If something is supposed to help "cut prices" it shall offer the same if not a better total package, and this pos car clearly doesn't.

    • @jesper463
      @jesper463 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vlekov You say it yourself, it doesn't bring anything to the table besides a lower price. It doesn't compete in any other area and that makes it a pos car, in my opinion.
      Now calm down on the personal attacks will you Mr internet.

    • @jesper463
      @jesper463 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vlekov For sure, but my original comment was not about standing out in the ev market by producing the worst product was it?
      We need better cars ( read better battery density etc) at equal or lower cost, and releasing a converted ice car with honestly very bad range is not moving the market forward or helping us achieve that in any way, put the energy into producing good cars from the ground up, price will decline as market switches to ev's or whatever the future may hold.
      Well, insinuating that I am a spoild brat was a bit excessive imo just based on that a called a car a pos.

    • @jesper463
      @jesper463 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vlekov Well yes of course, new things are invented all the time and as time moves on in it passes down to cheaper cars as well from the more expensive ones.
      Actually, cars are getting cheaper every year, compared to what the normal person makes in a year. Try and compare a make and model 10,20,30 years apart and you will see it clearly.
      Perhaps, time will tell.

      An outside temperature reading for warning of black ice has been regarded as essential in colder climates for the last 30 years. Maybe we can buy a stick on accessory at Amazon for a £30k car? This is the only EV available without % battery display, without climate control, listed as a 5 seater without a centre headrest in the back, & without a remote control app or charging or preheat timers. Some useful gadgets, but missing some essentials. Rumours of poor rustproofing, too. Perhaps it should be £10k.

    • @bangerbangerbro
      @bangerbangerbro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Wolfgang Preier It has basic heating, cooling at least doesn't it? I'm just saying that it has more than just the basics. It has a bit of luxury but that's not a bad thing since it doesn't let it bring the price up too much. Yes full colour infotainment system can't cost that much relative to the rest of the car, but it's not strictly necessary. Yes self driving will be expected as part of the basic function of a car in the future but not right now. I suppose it is future proofed then isn't it? All I'm saying is that it has significantly more than the absolute minimum.

    I think it is good to get this option on the European market. I heard from several people that a big complaint about EVs today are price, and missing tow hook for like just a small trailer to drive garden waste etc. to the local recycle station etc. and they just need a car to get from A to B, and do not really care what it is called, og how many luxury features it has. For such people this can might be the answer. I am just happy to see more EV options and competition on the market.

    • @jarthurs
      @jarthurs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This seems to fit the bill for a daily driver (certainly in the UK) no frills and a reasonable range. The lower income people who stand to benefit most from the reduced cost of EV ownership are the group that is least able to afford them. Hopefully this will go some way to pulling the entry cost of EV's down, either on new/leased vehicles or by flushing out older models onto a more competitive 2nd hand market.

  • @fibge
    @fibge 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Good for MG, a car with the essentials, without too many electronics that at the end only makes it expensive and a good option to make EVs really more accessible and that is the goal for the masification of the electromobility.

  • @raysmith1971
    @raysmith1971 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Great review Bjorn, first time watching you do a full car review and taking the time to actually look at what is really relevant to the average car buyer.
    £23.5k for a top spec MG ZS with everything on it, or £25k for a Zoe base model which doesn't need a battery rental. Yes range is greater in the Zoe but that is the only thing that is better. 'Only' 160 miles range for the ZS but for 99% of the time that will be ample.The MG has more toys,more space and is quicker.7 years vs 3 years warranty. Think this might be a wake up call for the larger car manufacturers to start lowering their extortionate EV prices. Wife has ordered her ZS Exclusive model.
    And what is she selling to buy a ZS? A Mercedes GLA. Yes it looks nice ,but the noisy diesel engine (even compared to a 110k CR-V diesel), clunky infotainment system (who doesn't have touch screen in a 2018 model car?) and other annoying things means it is time to say goodbye. Its true when they say they don't build them like they used to.

  • @manolexing68
    @manolexing68 5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    This is a budget EV, so materials and options will not be comparable to the likes of Mercedes, Jaguar, etc., etc., etc.. Having said that, it still gives people who want to move away from fossil fuels a easier chance to do so. Finally, given China is at the forefront of EV development, and they’ve been developing them for some time now, it should be reasonably reliable.

    • @GowthamV07
      @GowthamV07 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes china has a huge lead in EV development capability. They will be reliable mostly but not like a Tesla . But they will be good enough for normal people if the price point of this car is little lower and comparable to an ICE car..

    • @johnc007
      @johnc007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. This car is very cheap, so it should only be compared with cheap EV cars. I think it’s a great EV car for its price. Chinese companies are learning fast. It’s good to see the MG brand back again.

    • @Haveagrated
      @Haveagrated 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Siggy, thanks for your comments :)
      I have tried Model 3 and eNiro for a day.
      Model 3 was cramped with the back seat space, basically unable to out 1 booster/1child seat and 1 baby seat Isofix Base.
      I got 8 year old skinny girl, 4 year old stocky boy and 6 day old baby so I don't have a choice I need space for pram (Cybex Priam + baby cot).
      I could fit it in the M3 but not without a lot of bending I land reaching.
      Non of this happens in eNiro and definitely usable space was bigger compare to M3.
      Don't believe in digits given by companies as they are based on idiotic rules.
      eNiro meant to have small boot but without parcel shelf I was able to fit Pram+Baby Cot+2 car seats and had space left for at least 4 bags of shopping.
      Kia Soul is not great for bulky objects and sadly M3 was similar, had to pack carefully and push stuff in and bend into the boot.
      Since Niro is so similar to MG ZS I really think in real world it would be the same.
      The funniest point is Ioniq seemed tiny compare to these but turned to have a huge boot.
      I measured around 660 liters up to the glass when all specs say 341 liters (out of my memory I could be a bit off).
      So I suggest if anyone wants to buy one specifically for his needs he has to being his stuff and try it in and than decide.
      Niro was over priced IMO for the size and the specs (leather is rubbish smells of cheap plastic).
      I really like our Soul EV as we paid less than 19k for it and 1 year later it's still worth 18k so hardly any depreciation and we had 0 problems, none just start drives every day.

    From Australia: I was looking at getting the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV when I accidentally came across this car. So I went for a test drive yesterday. Loved it. Disappointed that it doesn't have all the cameras like all new cars nor climate control but apart from that, AND the low range (263 kms), it's spot on. If I do buy one, being as a designer (I design toys and games - I made the MasterChef game and the Huggie Snuggle teddy bear to name a couple), I would immediately make a front bonnet boot compartment for it to store the cables and such. Why keep them in the back? There's plenty of room for me to get something blow-moulded to fit and leave the bottles still accessible.

    That diesel Mondeo lol. It's got a blocked EGR valve, I cleaned my X Type's EGR valve this weekend, no black smoke and more power. The ZS EV is really tempting as a car, it's got a bigger battery than the leaf and it's water cooled so should maintain range better at motorway speeds compared to the leaf that starts to overheat past 60mph.

    I have this car for about a month. I only charge once a week since I drive around 300KM a week (60km daily commute).
    So far I'm loving this car, always using ECO mode and KERS-3. it's really smooth ride on ECO. Normal when I have 3 or more people on the car. Never Sport, it's just too much power usage. in Sport, the range is about 220KM. The radio autostart (at volume level 8) is annoying but can live with it.
    Also MG is miss-advertising the Android/Apple Car feature, it's not native software and doesnt work at all, except for a few useless apps like Facebook. They are going risking getting sued for that.
    I dont think I will ever buy a petrol car again. However, my next car will need to have at least 64KWh battery. ideally 80KWh.

    Treat the car in the price range it is. Apparently this car is pretty badass if it is priced like a Zoe Wich is insane for such a large car .

    The European version does not have iSmart (the app) and timed charging is not possible. This also means that charging from "off grid" power e.g. solar is unreliable as the car does not wake up again if the power supply temporarily drops out.

    There is no such thing as a free lunch: you get what you pay for. So less soundproofing, more hard plastics, etc, etc. But for a relatively cheap entry in the EV market it's probably a good offer and hopefully will put some pressure on the other brands to not maximize the prices of EV's (there is so much demand, that it is almost impossible to get a normal discount and some brands are even making the same car more expensive; Kia / Hyundai)

  • @bournvilleman
    @bournvilleman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Many of the car reviewers don't get long to review the car fully so sometimes the information they mention on the review maybe incorrect. Nearly everything in life is a luxury in one way or another and different people prefer different luxuries. Many things on cars are not really needed they merely become more popular the more they are seen. I wish this car had a heated steering wheel like some of my other cars, but it doesn't. Still it wouldn't stop me from ordering this car.
    The main thing for me is a larger EV vehicle which can go further than I normally travel in one day and one that also has most of the safety features.
    Inspecting the vehicle you can of course see how some of the cost saving have been made, like no soft return hand grab rails( who uses these anyway?)
    Like I said at the start some things are just not important. Price, reliability and value for money is key for me not just a badge.

    The EV sector has certainly needed a car with this range/price and functionality. The only concern I might have is the rust factor.. There was a video put up by a guy who had the gas version of this car and he looked under body after just 7 months - it was full of surface rust spots. So, whether it is a real problem or not I don't know but I suspect MG took a shortcut with body treatment.

    Who scrolls the sat nav? you follow the guide thats how they work. The 'Home' button is in the knob at bottom just push it. By you not knowing how to operate car you make it seem car is faulty when the reality is driver error. Being a press car the cover plugs probably lost by a previous "expert" deriding car by comparing it to Kia E Nero which is 50% dearer.

    Provided this car is reliable and MG can provide good support, I see no reason why it won't be hugely successful. Currently 10,000 cheaper than the eNiro, same price as Zoe (with purchased battery) but larger, what's not to like? Sure, it's just a competent family vehicle, but 97% of car buyers just want that.
    SAIC seem determined to buy market share and reputation, so those who get the introductory discount are getting a bargain IMNSHO.

    80% charging is protecting the battery from too high temperatures. First introducing model for the MG EV need to be cheap to get into the EV car marked easier. The competition on the marked is changing very fast now. Lot of electric cars are entering the marked. I have never been too keen on electric cars but the price of the car may change the opinion for many people.

    I wish reviews would stop comparing cars against other more expensive cars its daft, it does what it says on the box it gets you from A to B cheaply.
    How fast do you want to go why do reviewers do speed tests you can only go the speed limit.
    The noise you hear is the electric motors. one thing you do you do not drive a EV like a ICE car you have to change you driving style and ease off the right food. Picking faults for no reason for the money its a bloody good car.
