To those that dont understand the picture... he is sitting down on the horse giving a V sign, this is the victory sign he always uses. You can see him an O'Leary giving this exact same V sign after Tiger Roll victories. The sickening an appalling thing here is he is giving the Victory sign to say that they rode the horse into the ground on the gallops... absolutely shocking, embarrassing an no defence whatsoever. If there was any justice there wouldnt even be an investigation, the picture says it all... that excuse for a human should never ever be let near a animal/horse again. Im not sayin thay gordon doesmt care but his actions speak volumes and maybe come across in the complete wrong way but you can only judge what you see. And it looks pretty heartless in my opinion . I would hazard a guess that this is not the first time Elliott has done this sort of thing . The fact that amateur jockey , Rob James , has been photographed doing the same thing on a dead mare which died on the gallops , suggests that it's a kind of joke among certain people in the racing fraternity . It's disgusting . It's akin to the big game hunter posing over a dead animal , only in Elliott's case , a phone instead of a rifle . I only hope both the Irish and British racing authorities come down heavy on him .

Excellent piece Matt, as always - keep asking the tough questions & finding the truth. Why has this taken 2 years to show Morgan being mocked in death? Gordon Elliot should be banned for a long time, certainly by the BHA, especially if the IHRB are so spineless as to be unable to act decisively. We do not want to see Elliott horses in the UK until we can guarantee that Cullentra is fit for purpose, as there is now a 2nd equally foul video showing Rob James (an Elliott jockey) also mocking another dead horse - a sick & disgusting pattern of behaviour? A lack of care & respect for animals that we all love - Cheveley Park need to sever their association with Elliott & set an example - O'Leary(s) will only follow the money, as they do with their airline - they care for neither people nor horses, so will continue to defend & support their Cullentra 'investment'

Shame the video cuts off before he finished but I think that's a pretty balanced view, as I would expect from Matt. I know he's flamboyant and drives people nuts but he is always worth listening to. I think, more often than not, he takes a common sense approach to racing matters. For myself, I feel what Gordon Elliott did was unacceptable, but he didn't try to dodge it. He held his hands up and said yes its me in the photo, and it's wrong and unacceptable. He took his punishment and didn't, as some would, appeal it. The trolling and abuse Elliott has taken is disgusting and much of it from people who should know better. I honestly don't believe he meant to disrespect the horse. But he did what he did and there is no getting away from that. He would serve his suspension and, hopefully, come back chastened, humble and wiser for the experience. The people trolling him need to back off. You never know what effect that will have on a person's mental health and nobody deserves to be hounded to that extent. I was shocked to see almost immediately after the verdict was handed down, Racing TV 's website ran a headline starting with "Disgraced trainer Gordon Elliott". That's a headline I would expect from a gutter tabloid. Thankfully it was the only such headline I saw. When this suspension is over Elliott and everyone in racing should be reminded of the duty of care they have to these animals, even in death, and hopefully the sport will move on better and wiser. We can but hope

Regrettably for Gordon, a picture speaks a thousand words and this picture appears no different to an African safari trophy hunter giving the v sign and standing over a dead rhino or elephant. Gordon's training record speaks for itself but this action is indefensible and intolerable. What is the price to pay for this action, this is open to debate but everybody deserves a second chance to redeem themselves after a major error of judgement. We all have erred at one stage or another in life. Just a thought.

*@Adrian Hosford* ☘️ Im not sure if it's an "error of judgement" on Elliott's part. Its revealed a whole frame of mind that up til now, nobody would have believed. Anyone with a true love of these most *nobel animals* would *never* have dreamed of such a photo, never mind pose for it. As successful as Elliott has been, he was clearly in it for the money or convenience & not for the love of horses. Sad.

@@stellamaris5405 I've tried to make sense of it and have tried to understand the attitude and mind of a person who could do such a thing. Firstly, I suppose we have to acknowledge that there is no evidence of cruelty to the horse when it was alive and what we are dealing with is absolute disloyalty, disrespect and lack of affection displayed to a deceased animal that served its master well to its dying breath. A totally unacceptable and intolerable scenario. Here in Ireland, Gordon came to horse racing relatively late in life and, unlike the likes of Wille Mullins or Henry De Bromhead, had no or very little childhood upbringing with horses. Willie and Henry were reared with horses and were part of the family. Gordon came to prominence as a trainer in 2007 at the age of 29 when, out of the blue, he trained Silver Birch to win the Aintree Grand National. He hadn't even trained a winner in Ireland at the time. My own opinion is that Gordon's view of a racehorse is more commodity based than Willie's or Henry's closeknit family view. That is why he was able to do what he did, the horse, as a commodity, had served its purpose while alive and was now dead, and he felt no loyalty, respect or love for it. If he did, he would not have done what he did. That is my view.

@@adrianhosford2989 ☘️ Yes, i don't know much about Elliott other than he gained from someone elses argument, but it's such an *unnatural thing to do* even if you're not into horses, what thought process leads to such a photo? It's not only the horse he's mocking but its owners & all those who worked with him. Id be astonished if anyone in horse racing circles entertain him at all now, he's not even fit to shovel shit. (pardon my french)

@@stellamaris5405 He certainly has fallen from grace for his act of madness and he has been kicked from pillar to post all week for his intolerable error of judgement. After his stupid initial statement, he has expressed remorse for his unacceptable actions. I suppose we as human beings have all been unfairly disloyal, disrespectful and uncaring at one stage or another in life but we would have been afforded an opportunity to redeem ourselves. While a hefty punishment is certainly appropriate, maybe it is going too far to destroy and crucify the man altogether. Maybe a hand of kindness is what is needed after an appropriate punishment because I for one am not without sin and cannot judge somebody so severely as not to give them a second chance. Maybe he and his innocent stable staff have suffered enough. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age or maybe it is just the Christian thing to do. This sentiment is of course entirely dependent on Gordon learning from his mistake and becoming a better person for it.

@@adrianhosford2989 ☘️ I really appreciate your reply & sentiment expressed. I was for sure, fired up earlier after having just seen the photo, so maybe i was harsh. I'm slightly embarrassed on reading your reply, as I am for sure, the last person in a position to judge anyone else & have over the years been fortunate to have received that same Christian forgiveness & compassion from others when I had done wrong. Yet, I still find Elliotts photo so disturbing - It reminded me of the photos in Abu Ghraib prison of US soldiers abusing Arab prisoners (im not for one second equating the suffering of those men with an animal) Such an odd, cruel way to amuse oneself & that anyone would think the humiliation & total debasement of people or horses - alive or dead, is something that would make you smile. Whoever took the photo, is just as bad. The more I write Adrian, the more angry I'm becoming again, i thought when i read your reply, that I should follow your example but it's the opposite way I'm going. It cannot be excused as an error of judgement, though the photo was that. It's the obvious lack of regard for the very animals that he done quite well out of, an Irishman who came out of nowhere, to shoot to the top of his game, except he was deceiving us all along - maybe its that deception that stings? Who in their right to mind would leave even an old nag in his care? I wouldn't wish him any bad but he's killed his own career, short as it was, probably for the best. I myself, still have alot to learn & maturing to do! Adrian, i do appreciate your wise words, you've given me something to chew on! 😏
