My father was George's sparring partner over here in England when he fought here in 63 also Zora folleys and Henry Cooper's Jim wicks would not let him fight chuvalo as Zora folley had knocked cooper out and he was an old man
Interesting to note that George Chuvalo only had like 15 or so amateur fights . Where a guy like Ali had close to 200 , he was 198 lbs at age 15 .. couldn’t find anyone to fight in Canada . He was born in the wrong era in the wrong place in a lot of ways turned pro at 19 just didn’t have the time to develop properly ..

Chuvalo's fight with "Smokin" Joe Frazier was a non-title fight when Frazier was coming up and not for World Heavyweight Title.

2383Scorpio Me too. The NOI probably threatened a manager of Chuvalo’s or something so that Ali could fight Terrell and have all the belts. You can see in Chuvalo’s fight with Terrell in the last rounds he wasn’t really fighting... he was just trying not to be knocked out because he knew he was going to win it (by the judges.) either way. Ali hyped his fights, so he got attention from media.
Great fight. Love watching Chavulo when he gets inside and opens up👌🥊🥊 Not flashy by any means but it worked for him, one rough and tough fighter.

Truth
The fight was on NOVEMBER 17th, not September, in 1971. Ali fought Mathis in the main event.
