    Video was exceptional. 3 way switches I had had the dark screw on the same side as one of the brass screws. Mistakenly thought the lone screw was the common. In the wiring book I was using that was how the 3 way switch was diagramed.
    Made the change putting the power and load on the dark screw and switches work as expected. Discovered only the 4 way switch was grounded. Corrected situation and now all 3 are grounded. Again, thanks for this useful video.

    Neutrals are used in a 3 way switch system, they return current to the panel. I hope that what you meant to say was that they just dont have a place on the switch. But that is the case with all switches in a house.

    Great video. Good description. I was wondering about the white commons in my circuit. You answered that right off.

    I use my inpact on the 2nd lowest torque setting by rapidly pressing the button. Faster than using a robby handheld screwdriver.

    I have LUTRON 3ways & a 4way that have no black screws. There are brass and copper colored. To make it more confusing, the copper and brass on the 4way are NOT paired top to top and bottom to bottom, they are staggered.(or criss-crossed). I have no way of knowing which is supposed to be which.

    What if I want to install a three way dimmer switch where a four way switch is now I have two black and two red wires and the white are in the box together I have a red wire going to a dark screw and a black wire going to a dark screw and the other two wires black and red each go to the common screw

    Is this method (Power to one end and other end to light) preferred over the (Power to light fixture) method for four way switch systems? Why?

    • @Dom-e92
      @Dom-e92 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to have a neutral in all of the switch boxes. If you brought power to the light fixture first, you would have to use 2 sets of 14-2 wire instead of 1 set of 12-3 wire. Hope this helps

    Also you wore from 14-2, if used 14-3 can I use the blk and cap the first red?

  • @michaelspencer6523
    @michaelspencer6523 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never break a neutral, on light swich . The current wire and the switch leg wires and the ground wire only.

    So throwing two four ways between?.. doesn’t change does it..?

    Do you need to use 14-2 going to lights?
    I wired all 14-3

      It's the ground connector where you connect the ground wire. It's the wire that goes directly into the earth or by the name itself, the ground. It's a safety feature.

    Cut around your insulation to your wires before you pull through makes the job easier. Easier to cut also when putting wires back in the box.

    Great video, but you should of also showed how to wire the light. And also how to wire incase the power source went to light first, because alot of homes built before 2000 are ran that way. And anybody that doesn't know will be lost in the sauce. I been in the IBEW for years now, and that was a great video. But show some craftsmanship and put a wrap of electrical tape around each switch it prevents the next guy or yourself from getting zapped. But you used residential plastic boxes so you dont have to worry about a trip or short. Again great video, but can show me how to use a table bender and bend 4" inch rigid with a 11 ft offset that has a 9" in. Kick and back to back 90° that goes over a two 3 inch pipes before connecting to a power filter and make that 4 4in RMC that needs to all parallel concentric with each other. These are the things I would like to see. If you cant wire a simple 4 way, you have no business picking up wire strippers.
