- My beautiful and brilliant mother Natalie took her last breath on the 5th of March 2023 while I held her hand by her bedside.
The day we laid her to rest was such a beautiful day. Thank you all so much. For those of you who came to see mum off on the 16th of March 2023, and all of you who watched from near and afar online - and for the wonderful and heartfelt messages on the Virtual Signature Book, and on her Facebook page over the last three weeks before and after mum left us all.
And all of you here on TH-cam that have watched and listened to her brilliant music over the last 10 years or so, and those that will - thank you for all of your wonderful insightful, encouraging and beautiful comments.
This is mum’s memorable slide show that was shown at her funeral. The music is a song Natalie wrote sometime in the early 60’s called, “The Words that my Daddy once Said”. It is sung by my friend Robyn Youlten, Chris Scheri on flute, and myself on guitar (thank you so much Robyn and Chris).
Mum once said in an interview when asked how she coped with the death of her two daughters,
“I don’t call it death because death means really that’s it. I don’t feel that they’ve gone - I feel they could be right here now as we’re talking. I’ve never felt they they’ve gone. "Nothing has changed. Just rearranged" "That's what happens with life. You think its gone, but its only just changed"
And that is how I will see, from here on. Mum hasn’t gone, she has just changed.

Oh Matty, as I have already expressed to you, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. This was the most beautiful memorial that I have ever seen. I watched the funeral in it's entirety and just blown away by her life, the stories, her remarkable mind and will! She was an amazing woman! Yes, those two words, "My Mum", really hit home as I watched you say them.....those last words. Your speech was poignant and beautiful, and some stories were funny, as well...."the fort" :-) There were also those that brought tears....tears of joy really and the look on your face as you told it was priceless......it was that family hug after the fort incident after you ran up those stairs and she expressed her love so unabashedly for you all. I am very proud of your strength to stand up there and talk about her the way you did. You can bet she is ever so proud of you Matty. Your role has certainly not ended. You are and will always be her adoring son and her story and her music will live on through you as it all comes together to now form your story. Also, I must mention the the significance of "88" raised goosebumps. 88 years old, 88 keys, 88 kilos. My God, that is really something and must truly be a sign. Natalie was an unassuming angel to our world and she was YOUR Mom. Again, Matty, I am so sorry. Much peace and love always, ~Jackie
Thank you so much Jackie, and so glad you took the time to watch the online stream of our final goodbye to my beautiful mum. It certainly has been an eventful three weeks or so - the busiest and most significant of my life. And now the realization of how life changing for myself in particular, her passing will be. But be sure I will now be working on making her music and her remarkable life known to the world in the form of a book (which I have already began), and eventually a movie.
Thank you Jackie for your insightful comments on my personal eulogy of mum and my memories of her. It was a difficult one to put together, as there was so much more that I could have said, and I could have stood up there for hours sharing many more significant events, as mum certainly was a larger than life character. Yes the "The Fort" story was one that has stuck in my mind all my life, as I feel it is not just an example of 'love', but the very definition of 'love'. And 88 yes. What more can I say. 😉

However, in your case, you are now a man on a mission to tell the entire story. The book and movie will be magnificent works of art and love. Her music brought so many tears to me., what a wonderful soul. She's reunited with everyone one she's lost through the years. She came to this earth to bring beauty to it and she did her job well. Even in her advanced age and obviously failing health, it's clear to see the radiant Joy within her. That same joy that she brought to so many. And for that I am extremely grateful.
