What's The Best Ballpoint Pen Refill?

- Looking for the best ballpoint pen refill of 2018? I like the Schmidt P900 ( amzn.to/2JPC3LO ). I don't tend to use ballpoints, but when I need one I pick this. My second choice would be the Schneider 755 XB ( amzn.to/2MB9MWW ).
Why use a ballpoint? Because they are versatile, last forever, and write on almost anything. When I'm writing on paper I vastly prefer the EasyFlow 9000 ( amzn.to/2lebWPN ) but in everyday carry situations paper isn't always an option.
FYI: These are both Parker-style G2 refills, but not all refills that look like this are ballpoint! These days many are hybrid ink, which is not necessarily the best option under all circumstances.

I wondered if you knew anything about or have tried the Schmidt P900 Softline? Apparently it's a hybrid, with more viscosity than a standard P900, but I'm guessing more oily than an easy flow...
Just ordered a stainless steel Parker jotter, easyflow in medium and bold, P900 softline, and the Parker quinkflow will come with the pen, so I can try them and see what I like...
Can't wait as I mistakenly bought a Parker vector fountain pen as an EDC last year which is a pain..!

Update -
At first I preferred the p900 softline as it's so smooth when I write.
But after a couple of weeks use I got annoyed that each time I write, after leaving the pen for a few hours, the first letter of the paragraph skips - the ink seems to dry a little.
I switched to the easyflow 9000 and now prefer it - it always writes first time and I prefer the darker colour line.
In my experience Stabilo flows much nicer than Schmidt ballpoint. I do miss the Schaefer refills from the 80s.
The video is from 2018 and what I'm noticing is the older a pen video or comment is, the more people like the Easyflow 9000. It seems like getting a bad one that skips is getting more common as time goes on, though I'm not really sure why, maybe something happened with the QC at Schmidt?
@@Suiseisexy I just saw your video after experiencing an issue with my EasyFlow 9000 M in blue. I've read that some lint or some tiny debree can get stuck in the roller and so it's best to draw a bunch of circles to loosen the roller up. Annoying problem, for sure, but seems to have fixed my issue for now.

Schmidt definitely does some nice stuff. I've been surprised at how happy I am with their rollerball refills for my Retro 51 (easily one of my favorite "grab and go" pens), and if I have to use a ballpoint, it's usually got a Schmidt P900 in it... which is saying a lot because for me, ballpoints are quite literally painful to use, so to find a ballpoint refill that made using ballpoints marginally more comfortable for those ballpoint-necessity situations was a huge plus.
A ball point pen is preferable in every case.
Parker Jotter and a Fisher Space Pen Refill in Med Black is my favorite. Same time and money and go with these.
This is a really great demonstration for when and why you would want a ballpoint pen at your fingertips, rather than a gel or hybrid ink (like the Easyflow 9000 or a Jetstream, probably).
I recently found out that there's a great performing, smooth writing, Faber-Castell, G2 sized refill, that comes in a really great and fairly cheap pen of theirs, called the Poly Ball, too. It's plastic and feels rubberised but it's not. Has a great triangular grip section and comes in lots of colours. I chose a teal and a black (called the Urban). Most have XB, extra broad, refills but Urban comes with a medium.
Great writing ballpoint refills, as well.
I found, at a local department store, a very nice metal-bodied ballpoint pen that I would like to give as a gift. Its refill is one that's twisted into the pen rather than simply placed within. It measures exactly 4.5 inches. The problem... the refill ink sucks. A gel or hybrid alternative would really upgrade it making it a nicer gift-giving pen. I searched online but only find a Cross ballpoint, no gel or hybrid. Have you ever come across such a refill? If so, do you know of any alternatives?

Hello... I have a massive of ball point pens that I inherited from my grandparents.
These pens must be at least 50 to 60 years old needless to say the ink has dried out a long time time.
Is it possible to buy new refills for these pens ?
I noticed none of your refills uses springs and most of my pens contain springs !

Yes actually the ballpoint pen refill fits in many other brand pens

a little late but the slider is a hybrid ink. just started looking into it because its what crash mccreery was using recently and his stuff looks so great

I would take the easyflow 9000 all day...but I cant....I need to note on glossy safety tags and on liquid paper...it sucks/doesn't work for those....

What do you recommend for Chromatic twist pens? They use a metal tube refill of which I can't seem to find anywhere. Seems that Chromatic (all metal body) was a popular promotional brand; I have quite a few with company logos on them.
I have one with two inserts and I put in it a black and a blue of those short slim refills that you can see in the video. D1 I believe they are called. It worked for my Chromatic
perhaps it's time to update the review for Schmidt Easy Flow 9000? I had read a few reviews on Amazon and my own experience found that these (in Medium) are inconsistent performers. The ink starts out smooth, but after a few pages of writing, it starts skipping. Granted, it doesn't fade but then returns in full force, but it's very unreliable. Perhaps their quality is not what it used to be?
Yea these have dropped off a lot. I no longer recommend them, but I do use them!

@@unsharpen actually, i've just now used a printer paper to draw circles around it and it seems to have cleared the EasyFlow 9000 cartridge. I am beginning to think that perhaps the pressure of writing with it may cause some issues with ink dispensation also. Will see how it continues to work. I do love the blue color of that cartridge.
Very good video, thanks! I'll try the schmidt p900. I've used in my parker jotter Refills from Baronfig clickable pen and loved it. The smoothness and color intensity. Have you tried it? Dont know what Company makes those refills for the, but they are great.
The Baron Fog refills are Schmidt EasyFlow I believe. One of my favorites

I prefer to write with ballpoint pens. Gel pens tend to streak when I try to write with them.
