AND TOBIN: thank you for opening up the doors and sharing with us about your injury and your recovery journey 🩷 it feels very special and sacred for you to share with us and know that you've always got our love and support xox
The personality dynamic of Tobin tending to be vague about her injury and Christen continually prompting her for the exact details! What a great couple! It was obvious how emotional it was for both of them to be discussing the injury and recovery.
Two power couples on my screen? YES, PLEASE! I can't wait to watch this later after work. Abby, but especially Glennon, always have wise words to live by.
omg the first 20 minutes are sooo... emotional. It felt like a privilege to hear them talk those 20 minutes about their journeys.. thank you for sharing, you both are so strong :)
It's been so hard as a football fan, not having the main actors (male players) ever talk about mental health, let alone something like a recovery journey. We just see "X suffered Y, expected to be out for Z weeks / months".
44:25 WOW! GREAT QUESTION CHRISTEN PRESS: "As the only person here who hasn’t been a professional athlete, what does it feel like to you to watch women professional athletes? To watch Women play at their best?" To me, Glennon Doyle's answer is tremendous...personal, vulnerable, revealing. The thing is, the QUESTION IS SO PERSONAL FOR ALL OF US. Gosh! I feel like the QUESTION touches my heart and soul, my gut. I know I'll be considering this for a long, long time. Thanks to all 4 of you. Wonderful conversation. RE Does Do Hard Things!
We finally got a Tobin recovery update (thank you for going against your norm to do that for us Tobin), so this episode is already great! It's an added bonus that the full interview was on the same level. Another great watch and I'm excited for the rest of season 3.
Tobin, I am so very grateful to have watched you play over many years. What a delight. I remember you used to drive some of your fellow players crazy over your teasing of your opponents with dribbling magic--taking your time. Delightful torture.
Kelly Ohara just spoke about her cartilage career ending injury on Sam's podcast...who also had a cartilage career ending injury. Everyone always speaks about ACL.. but cartilage deterioration is the real career ender.
the question is "why do women suffer ACL injuries so much more often in soccer?". Does sports science / training need to change? Pitches? Big names are going down every year for long periods, or permanently. It's scary to see such little progress (at least publicly) into why ACLs / long-term injuries are so prevalent in women's soccer.
1+ hour with 4 of my favorite humans one day after my birthday?!? Oh yes, this is the best gift of all... thank you, reinc!! I absolutely love you, gals. You have been such a great role model and an amazing inspiration for me and a lot of people.
"Life is not primarily a quest for pleasure,as Freud belived, or a quest for power,as Alfred Adler taught, but a quest for meaning. The greatest task for any person is to find meaning in his or her life. Frankl saw three possible sources for meaning : in work (doing something significant), in love ( caring for another person), and in courage during difficult times. Suffering in and of itself in meaningless; we give our suffering meaning by the way in which we respond to it." ( Tobin Heath ) In 2020, this Tobin quote caught my eye. Since then I have saved it to my favorites. I respect and love this Player and Person!
I can’t watch this rn bc of work but YESSSS I was literally just telling my partner that one of these shows we love has got to have Abby on because she is the actual best! And the fact that y’all got Glennon too?? ❤❤❤❤
Four of my favourite people all in one place. I loooooved this conversation and yes Christen...I wish it could continue. It's not just the content. I love the way you all listen and share and relate. it's beautiful....Thank you xxx
Thank you Tobin. You were so open with us about your recovery, and I really appreciate that so much. I’m glad you both had each other for support through your recoveries. This was a fantastic episode, the talk about money was so true.
Watching a match earlier today, the on-air host told us that you, Christen, had begun practicing with your club, ACFC. !!!!! We all jumped to our feet and screamed with delight. 🤸♀️💃 We are Angel City fans since day one. When you signed with ACFC we couldn't believe our luck to get you for our home team. 🤸♀️💃 Oh how we have missed you on the pitch. Great show. Great to see y'all together sharing so much heart and soul. Best wishes to all of you, and thank you for the WONDERFULLY entertaining play over the years. Stay well gals.
Thank you for sharing Tobin! I miss you out on the pitch, but I am wishing you well in your recovery journey. It feels so special that you are sharing especially knowing how private you are. You have been my favorite player since the new kids and helped me fall in love with game. You have changed the game forever.
What a great first episode back! LOVED the discourse… y’all helped put a finger on why I love women’s sports so much. And I say women’s sports specifically because there’s just a community like no other within them. Can’t wait for more of these!! ❤
Best. Show. Ever! LOVE the topics, the guests, the vulnerability and the genuine kindness and honesty you put out there for us to take in. Thank you for the look inside your lives, love and souls! XXOO
Tobin, So good to hear you talk about your determination to get back to playing. I have missed seeing you on the field. I miss seeing your talent and skills. I wish you the best and hope you come back and play for a club, god willing!
Christen just said the most important thing (talking about a crowd of people all being focused on the same moment) "that is why I love live music and live sports" YES YES YES! I have become a huge fan of women's football (and I'll watch the men sometimes too), but I'm a musician, not an athlete, and as a performer, there are so many interesting similarities between music and sport as ART, as creating feelings (to say nothing of the necessary commitment to excellence, disciple, a high tolerance for disappointment, etc). Anyway, great point - LIVE MUSIC AND LIVE SPORT!
The scenery is incredible, the editing is wonderful. Knowing Tobin's story was special, as a fan it makes all the difference. ps: christen is so elegant and funny, truly an amazing woman
What a great episode back! Thanks for the updates,Tobin and Christen. So nice to hear from Abby and Glennon. You need Abby back for more football reminiscing!
I love Tobin sharing her rehab process, especially since she is so private about it all normally. Selfishly, I still desperately want to see Tobin in this NWSL era, completely bossing the wing. #tobinho
I just turned 50 this year. As a girl, I loved playing outdoors, including all the typical backyard games and sports, but I I have no memory of watching sports on TV, with one exception. I seriously loved watching the Olympics, and I know exactly why that was --- because the broadcast included min-documentary segments featuring the athlete's journey, which just made watching the actual competiition much more important and memorable. I didn't have cable TV until much later in life, but once I did, I fell in love with HBO's "Real Sports" and ESPNs "30 For 30" for the same reason. For me, it is all about knowing the story behind the athlete thta has drawn me in.
16:04 I love how Tobin's faith in God has not changed even with all she's went and is still going through with her injury, surgeries, and not being able to play the game she loves so much. I LOVE YOU, TOBIN!!!!
More shows like this pls, could listen to these amazing women talk and share and teach and lead all day, grateful to be at the table sure but also it is absolutely DESERVED and DUE ! Loved this,
I have to stop and press pause to reflect after the wambach interview interview and I know I’ll be rewatching this a lot because wow. I felt so many things and feel like I’m walking away with the keys to life. Thank you for such an amazing show.
Tobin, I’m 55 and played travel soccer growing up. (No where near ur level.) No real injuries until I was in my late 20s playing in rec league and I tore the ACL, And later tore the articular cartilage. Back then they did micro fracturing. So I feel ur pain!! Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing. And thanks to you and Christen for making the Re-cap show. Makes me think& feel and brings me joy. Best of luck in both of ur recoveries & journeys!
So happy to see this show is back. I became a big women’s football fan with the creation of Angel City here in LA and Christen you really hit it hard. As a queer latina being in that environment alone I feel so seen and so safe inside the angel city stadium its magic to be honest. So happy the re-cap show is back on youtube! I agree with Abbey and Glennon there’s so many stories in women’s football that keep me coming back for more beyond the game itself. We love all the lesbian drama in football too 😂🥰. Cant wait for more episodes!
i love this egomez and i love to see it. we all want belonging no matter who we are. and watching a team has so much love and support, it does not matter if we play sports or not. it’s a special feeling among fans and i love watching anglel city from CT
listening to y'all talk about the exchange of energy in sports has me thinking about collective effervescence! it's a concept from sociology, originally in the context of religion, and it's that powerful energetic spillover in moments of collective presence and unity. plenty of people have written about collective effervescence in sports and concerts too, in addition to religious spaces, and it's exactly where the soul-lifting magic happens in all these contexts. thank you for the wonderful conversation and for sharing about your healing journeys! ♥
WOW what an episode. I honestly need to listen again because it was so layered and deep. I loved the chat around energy and how sports can bring people together to focus on a single moment. This was just really, really good. 👏👏👏 Also, Tobin, when are you going to tell us your first impression of Christen!?? Also also, good luck with both of your recovery journeys. I hope the journey continues to be as insightful as it seems to have been so far. ALSSOOOO. I LOVE Abby and Glennon so much!
This was awesome Especially that energy during games bit. I truly believe this is a thing. I hope to see Tobin and Christen playing soccer again. Best wishes for recover! Also, I'm an earth dragon too, 🐉 let's goooo!
Okay, I watched this to get a new perspective for my 17 year old soccer daughter who’s quad didn’t start firing for 6 months post ACL so she’s behind in her return - but left feeling you two are absolutely awesome together ! 👏
Hey Tobin. Thanks for sharing your injury. I also did have a cartilage damage. And it’s worse than what you had. I couldn’t do the transplant because of how severe it was. I always felt alone about my injury. I had 5 surgery and still my knee is not any better. But i hope you will have a wonderful recovery and could get back to the game you love. And perhaps there is still hope for me.
Thank you so much from this! Can you 4 collaborate every week!?! 💓 Also Tobin idk if it’s because I’m also born in 1988 and from central NJ but I know those exact Nick games! I think the other one was called GUTS? Loved that part haha. You 4 are amazing and so inspirational as well as still relatable and interesting.. xoxo
Abby the power of energy you talked about is the manifestation of the universe. When you have so many people believing and wanting the same thing - it calls the collective human energy to occur. Tobin is one of the biggest icons of women’s football and she is such a beautiful person inside and out. ❤
Abby, but especially Glennon, always have wise words to live by.
it's not really summer until the re-cap show hits 🫶🏻
🤭😎☀
Starting to feel that way, huh! 😎
Kelley, Sam, and now Tobin all with the same injury. My heart goes out to them❤❤
Right?! What a day
Right?! I watched this after Kelley's interview with Sam

Tobin you don’t know how much we miss you out here! Hope to see you soon at your best in the pitch! Always 17 ❤️
Thanks for sharing Tobin! ❤ Wishing you well on your recovery and I would love to see you back on the pitch someday soon. #17 ❤
Christens refusal to acknowledge her first real impression of Tobin aka ‚the whole other story‘ Tobin keeps referring to, is everything 😂
I need that story. Lmao
especially since she said she did NOT like Tobin at times for how she treated her 🤣
@@roscko3142 "enemies to lovers" for sure
We finally got a Tobin recovery update (thank you for going against your norm to do that for us Tobin), so this episode is already great! It's an added bonus that the full interview was on the same level. Another great watch and I'm excited for the rest of season 3.

christen saying the “2016” with fear in her eyes and voice 😭😭😭it’s gonna haunt her forever i fear 😭😭
pretty sure Abby helping the high school team score by 'moving the energy' to stand near the goal was just the GK being intimidated 😂
underrated comment🤣🤣🤣🤣

A rollercoaster of emotions 😢
how do I become a cartilage donor 🤔 tobin can have my entire knee
As an athlete dealing with cartilage issues, it’s not easy❤ hoping nothing but the best for Tobin!!

So glad the Re-cap show is back on YT. That was a wonderful episode. Love listening to all 4 of you ladies. Looking forward to the next episode.
i didn’t want the discussion to end! such a good episode. 🙌🏽
Me neither 👍
This panel needs to have a regular show, just amazing conversations between these 4 🔥
This was incredibly awesome. Abby is an icon who has promoted women’s soccer since the beginning !!! I love this conversation!!
Thank you Tobin. You were so open with us about your recovery, and I really appreciate that so much. I’m glad you both had each other for support through your recoveries. This was a fantastic episode, the talk about money was so true.

Also Abby won ballon d’or? Was it called that back then? I thought it was something else.
Where were you guys when I was a kid playing sports?
Bravo to all of you!!
Love this episode let gooo Tobin and christen ❤❤
Kristen moving to the goal and O’Hara kicking the assist to Kristen to score against England was the energy of a winner.
I loved this conversation…and love all four of you! Thanks for sharing!
This was awesome
Especially that energy during games bit. I truly believe this is a thing.
I hope to see Tobin and Christen playing soccer again. Best wishes for recover!
Also, I'm an earth dragon too, 🐉 let's goooo!
Already listened to the podcast, but it’s so good so I’ll rewatch 😊
the "sports arn't for me" part hits so hard!! wow!!! that needs to be a clip!! lemme share thatt!!
Yea that opener I can see how theyve been together almost 10 years. They pour into each other it's very nice to see.

Tobin is a fucking Legend of the game. She is in the top 10 American soccer players ever
That is a great, spiritual show. As a former athlete, I love the energy and descriptions of women's sports. ❤

You’re back!!!! Thank you ❤
are we sure that abby moving her “energy” wasn’t just the other team getting distracted by abby freaking wambach staring at them
Really enjoyed the episode, definitely worth the wait. Can’t wait for the next one
Abby the power of energy you talked about is the manifestation of the universe. When you have so many people believing and wanting the same thing - it calls the collective human energy to occur. Think about the historical events of our life time it is the same concept, so think about the 1999 team and your 2019 team! I think the energy of women can change the world and it will happen going into 2025 beyond!
Legends of the hidden temple! Loved that show.
So glad this is back!
Such a great episode and so glad you ladies are back ❤❤
omg i loveeee this but how abby looks at her wifeeeee!!! made me smile :)
Sam Mewis and KO dealt with the same - sounds like we need a ton more research on cartilage injury prevention and treatment!!! Thanks for sharing Tobin.
Love it!! Thank you for the vulnerability and wonderful discussions!
I often turn off the sound when watching sports so I am not distracted by the talk!
Great news from you both; I hope your recoveries go well. Football will be all the richer with you two back scoring again.:-)
Yes, Tobin! Legends of the Hidden Temple & GUTS were my favorite Nick shows growing up. They both were shows were you did obstical courses and physical events
same legends is so good especially the purple team try to do their best and win it all. hahaa. Global guts - thats the show that Tobin was talking about.
Oh my god. My two favorite humans plus sister ❤
I thought Tobin was going to end with "Christen, sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do".
This was one of the best podcasts/videos, conversation I have watched in a while! This was soooo good and informative and seeing things from a whole different lens. Thank you guys for coming back❤️ (do not discontinue anytime soon pls)
Best show! I love love love this energy 💓
"To love and be loved in return" is a line from Moulin Rouge 😝
Crazy that Sam and Tobin have the same exact cartilage injury!
