Well turns out there is no UV filter...you guys are right, it's just a threaded ring with no glass. In my defense, the filter instructions tell you to "Unscrew the stock UV filter installed on the camera (clear lens)." as the first step. So I assumed that was it...didn't even think to try to tap the "glass" to see if there was anything actually there. Whoops!
I bought this exact set of filters at best buy, on clearance, for $35. I didn't realize that turning them, on the camera, changes the result of the filter......I really like your approach, and how you explain things. You do help me understand my mavic air and how it works alot better than just assuming, and me guessing. Thank you! -Gil
Heads up, when removing lens on the Mavic Air, the ring only comes off, the lens is fix to the camera unlike other Dji drones, where the lens comes off with lens ring (one piece). I thought I lost my lens removing it to replace with an ND filter. Well done! Ed

Auto mode would likely increase ISO and shutter speed and affect/reduce the quality of the image that these filters are designed to optimize, so I probably won't, sorry!
Hey Ed, I know you only had the Cinema Series but it looks like there's a standard series also. Looks like the difference is multi coated. For $100.00 more is the cinema series worth the dough? Opinions?
Brilliant video! If you had to recommend 3 polar pro filters to buy what would they be? Do you use the 16ND filter often, or do you use the 32ND & 64ND? This question is for anyone who is currently using filters. Thank you!
So when adjusting the angle of the polarizer with the drone on so you can see the effect it has on your screen do you ever feel like it has the potential to damage your gimbal? I’m very hesitant to grab the camera while it’s on. I have the same filters and I go through a somewhat tedious process of turning it on assessing then off to adjust and back on again. Not the most efficient way but I don’t ever touch the gimbal while it’s on. Anyone have any thoughts here?? Ed??
Any thoughts on the "standard series" vs. "cinema series"? Is the extra whatever coating on the cinema series worth the extra $50? I mean, how much better are they, and in what way? Not sure if this is a legit difference or just a way to get me to spend more money for a product that's only a tiny bit better?
Hey bro! Love your videos! I especially loved your video comparing the mavic zoom vs the 2 pro. My only questions is: Is the mavic air still relevant in July 2019? I have had the zoom for almost a year now but still find that the weight and size of the drone can be difficult when backpacking or even possibly traveling. I just decided to order a mavic air ( 1 1/2 year later after its release) for the purpose of portability and weight, I also wanted a drone that would take the work load off my zoom in my daily real estate videos. Have I made a big mistake? Should I have waited for DJI to release something new? Or maybe I should have gotten the pro 2?
Hi Ed. I recently purchased the PolarPro filters. But they have withdrawn there app. Can you at please suggest a reasonable alternative for a filter novice?
To completely understand: when using the polarizer, you must adjust the ring each time you change the direction? Can you use the PL when you fly directly towards the sun?
You set the ring adjustment before takeoff and fly as normal. The effect is most visible 90 degrees from the sun. So flying toward the sun won't produce much effect, but that's fine...it's not supposed to.
hi Ed, thanks for your informative video, what would be the results if I don't fine-tune the Polarizer of ND/PL filter for the Mavic air: 1. will I still get some ND effect since it is a combined ND/PL filter? 2. will bad PL adjustment mess up footage colours? thanks for your advice
Hello Mr Ricker, Nice video. I like the format. I'm, interested to know your thoughts on the Standard Series vs Cinema Series filters. For nearly $100 more, are the Cinema Series really worth it?
Hey Ed do you think polarizers create a sharper image? I ask this because i just got my mavic air and was disappointed with the video quality (did not use an ND or Polarizer). Everything looked soft and out of focus even with proper exposure on manual with double the shutter speed on 100 ISO. Do you think a polarizer will sharpen up the videos?
Hey Ed, I just got a Mavic Air and I am taking it with me to Alaska. The problem is that every time i have flown with it, my footage comes out really choppy/laggy - more than just "not cinematic" due to me not using ND filters (they are in the mail rn so I will try them out when I get them). It also seems like my range is very limited, today I lost signal at 500 ft away. Have you experienced anything like this before? Any recommendations?
I just got the vivid collection. But I am somewhat worried rotating that polarizer when gimbal I engaged, isn't there risk of damages. Any suggestions?
No, rotating the polarizer is very easy and won't damage it. The biggerrisk for damage is putting it on and taking it off. Luckily these screw on, so it's not too difficult. Filters for other Mavics PUSH ON which is a nightmare.
@@EdRickerVlogs well screwing it on I can do when the drone is powered off. But to be able to align the polarizer the camera must be on. That is the difficult part.
@@jenslundinbyh8845 Yeah, that's not an issue. 40MPH+ wind speed will push against the gimbal way harder than the pressure required to turn the filter.
Got mine 2 weeks ago, went to Lake Tahoe to shoot and discovered they are not labeled which ND filter it was, fortunately I can tell but it is a bit of an inconvenience
It is for most days, though perhaps at high noon on a sunny day it might still be too bright. You could then bump up the shutter a bit to darken it, or find a pack that has ND32.
No UV filter on my Mavic Air. PL's don't make greener trees, just less reflexions in the air from tiny water droplets or water reflexions. ND's are simply used to lower the shutterspeed to have it twice the fps (if you want to follow the 180° rule). ;) Great PolarPro Filters and the PolarPro App is helpful as well.
The Mavic Air shoots at 100mps the Mavic Pro only shoots at 60... Flight time and range are way better though with the Mavic Pro, if that's what you are after. Cheers.

Haha no biggie Ed love all your videos! Just kind of silly that they would not include a stock UV Filter like they do on my P4P Obsidian that just landed on my doorstep! Man I can't wait to play :-)
@@EdRickerVlogs maby so but it's good to clarify that you dont always need them only on very bright days. Gray boring weather days you dont need them, at fall when the leaves from the tree have amazing viarity tones of colors, you dont need the filters. I will get and filters for sunny bright moment :) I like your tutorials and iam follow your channel so keep doing your thing 👍.
@@JosesGarage101 I disagree. If I want to have a shutter speed twice my framerate (sometimes as low as 1/50sec), filters are essential for a fixed aperture camera like the Mavic Air. And I almost ALWAYS want a shutter speed twice my framerate. Thanks for watching tho!

Hi. Thanks fot sharing. I was wondering... do you know what is the difference between the cinema series and the regular ones?
Can you please tell the title of the song playing at the end of a vid 5:07 ? Thanks!
Are you going to the field this coming Saturday morning?
is there any chance you can do a comparison with the filters in auto made and manual mode to see what the diff is? cheers from australia

Ed Ricker no worries at all
How did u get a uv filter on ur ma1 mines a hollow no glass ring factory
Have you heard anything good about K&F Concept or Neewer brand filters???
I couldn't imagine trying to put those tiny filters on the tiny lens! Especially the PL filters with the outer rings.
Hey Ed, I know you only had the Cinema Series but it looks like there's a standard series also. Looks like the difference is multi coated. For $100.00 more is the cinema series worth the dough? Opinions?

Thanks! Nope, Alesis DM10X.
Great video but FYI Ed, there is no UV Filter on the Mavic Air. It is just a blank ring with no filter which really makes no sense on DJI's part.
How do you get rid of the original uv filter?

$150 ouch! Wife ain’t going to like this purchase either....

There are smaller sets.
Yikes! I get the usefulness, but... uh...
Have a spare $120 so I can buy some Polar Pro ND filters? :D
