Its not. Even my 1996 125hp Honda CRX del sol drives more than 200 and im not sitting there like "OH MY GOD THIS SPEED THIS SPEED" Even at 230km/h with my CR-Z (yes, with a bit of downhill thats quite possible) im still not like "wow _that_ is fast". everything below 251km/h is not an excuse for bad commentary.
200km/h or more is normal speed for a German, but nice to see how much fun other People have to drive as fast as you can :-) nice vid !!! and by the way, this is the reason , why we have no cup holder ;-)
Fascinating demonstration of the thermal management issues the engineers (and ultimately, the drivers) must deal with when trying to use >500 ps for extended periods. Thank you!
smiling bandit these cars have thermal cooling and heating systems for the batteries. Actually each individual little battery cell is in contact with the thermal management tubes.
An interesting test would be: What is the highest sustained (steady) speed you can achieve for a prolonged period of time before the battery heats up and limits the power? The answer would of course be a function of outside temperature. It would also be interesting to know what is the limiting factor in cooling the battery. It might be one or more parts of the heat removal system (pump, radiators, fans, compressor) or it might be the battery design itself -- perhaps the geometry of the cells and the capacity to move fluid through it is limited enough that increasing the HVAC size beyond a certain point would not help. (If the fluid is pumped through the battery too fast, it might produce damaging forces on battery components.)
+Ivansky1 that was not sustained speed, but push to maximum briefly, heating up the battery and forcing speeds below 200km/h for the remaining few minutes. Sustained would be eg: driving 200km at 140km/h - what is the limit on speed for longer distances? In Europe you rarely travel that far while in USA and Australia it is not unusual to do a trip that is 600km each way. I want to know if a 1600km trip is realistically achievable in 24 hours. This will be cruising at 100km/h for about 15 hours with the car only stopping for super chargers (8 x 30min stop) and the occasional photo opportunity, and probably with cooling on during the day and heating on at night.
Was kinda surprised how fast it went into power restrictions due to heat issues. I guess it shows there that is was build mainly for a much slower moving market than germany. But then, pretty much all countries have a much slower speed restriction. Yes, most german manufacturers limit their cars initially to 250 km/h as well, however with a safety training there is usually an option to get 270 km/h or unrestricted speed on those cars. I am looking forward to my Model 3, but i do like to drive fast whenever possible, not looking forward to heat issues restricting that.
The reason the power was restricted so quickly is because he decelerated by regen and accelerated all of the time. This puts a LOT of stress on the battery. The car can sustain 200-230 KM/H easily.
Would like to know if the battery could be cooled down enough to have full power again (and if how long it takes), when keeping Autobahn driving, let's say at an constant speed of 130 kmh!
Thank you. BTW your video is, again, amusing to watch. "ohoo, re-gen, re-gen, re-gen... " ;-)) You're a good guy - would be fantastic to be on your ride. Have fun with Tesla cars further on!
I'm absolutely blown away that drivers in the left lane moved over. Here in the states, that simply does not happen. I wish a law could be enacted to enforce no left lane camping. It would improve traffic drastically. Really love some of your commentaries. They are hilarious.
There actually is a law in Germay for that, which is great. Also you learn to check you mirrors, if you don't want to have someone kissing your bumper at 200 km/h xD
It's called Darwin's Law! Loved driving across Germany, the discipline and the mutual respect and courtesy (when it happens) makes it a pleasure. The rest of the world's drivers could learn a lot about this.
Whenever I watch a video from the autobahn I have a huge smile on my face ;) In 2010 I brought my GTI from Canada to Germany just so I could enjoy driving it at proper speeds :D
Wesley Crabajales These are the rules on our Autobahn. Only overtake on the leftside. Thats why Most People Go on right lane. The Bad Part is, when they dont do it and You have to slow down every time
I guess that's just the German (or European in general) driving education system. You are required to have driving lessons with a professional driving teacher, of which some have to be on the Autobahn. Of course the teachers makes sure you know how to behave on the Autobahn.
Not true. A professional driving teacher is not mandatory in all countries (but hell it should be). And as mentioned by others: you have to drive in the right most lane at all times when possible. One other difference with the US is that you are NOT allowed to overtake on the right side.
I've read all the comments about shaking hands and scary speeding around 180 - 200 km/h. And I have to tell you, with all respect, always choose safe speed to you even if it is 120, and don't go 200 if your hands and legs are shaking. Because here in Germany normal cruising speed for most "Autobahn" is around 160 - 180 km/h. And I see no problem driving 210km/h with my old diesel X5. If you can't, or you're afraid, just don't.
I don't think the top speed is software limited much. At around 155Mph the motor is spinning at close to 30,000 RPM which is nearing the maximum it can do. There's a good thread on a forum that goes though it with all the calculations and gear ratios. Even the wheel diameter is considered.
+Bjørn Nyland Geez sorry about that, I thought I had read it was running at close to its maximum. Maybe I'm just remembering 30,000 from something else. Thanks for the correction
What a wild ride. I feel like I just got off a rollercoaster. The Tesla X is a landmark in the automotive industry (I just hate the windshield that sweeps back into the roof) But I can get over it.
This video illustrated an important limitation of the electric power unit. That it overheats quite quickly when challenged alot and cannot sustain a high top speed for very long. Combustion engines perform better in that regard.
That is incorrect, sir. Keep in mind that this is a large SUV for families. It's not a sports car. The limitation is not in the electric drivetrain itself. But Tesla chose to get efficiency over extreme performance. For extreme electric performance: techcrunch.com/2016/11/21/nextevs-new-nio-ep9-electric-supercar-holds-a-nurburgring-world-record/ Nio EP9 finished Nordschleife in 7:05 and makes it the 5th fastest car on the ring. Yes, that's right. An electric car is faster than Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Aventador and Koenigsegg CCX.
Sulfen The limitation is not in the electric motor(s). Tesla chose efficiency over extreme performance. That doesn't mean that others can't make an electric sports car: arstechnica.com/cars/2016/11/nextevs-nio-ep9-electric-supercar-sets-a-new-nurburgring-record/
I'm impressed by how everyone who sees him behind them moves over to give him way! Here in El Paso, Texas people will even mock you by brake-testing you!
I know a guy who's a BMW engineer and he gets a) a lot of money and b) discount on all BMWs xD so his car is some crazy shit BMW I don't even know which one, but this is slow compared to what he does with that car :) I agree though 250 km/h is pretty fast, I never went more than 180.
I highly doubt this is slow, even compared to something like the M3. P90D can go 0-100km in 2.8 seconds in ludicrous mode. This is comparable to supercars.
+alex sagel it's insanely fast from the start, that's true. because all the power is available from the first second on. But if it comes to acceleration from a faster point (like 150 to 250) the car is rather slow.
julien grandmougin Have you driven a Tesla before? The only way to describe it is it's the same feeling as taking off in a jet. Remember, this car is not a sports car, it's a consumer sedan.
julien grandmougin X5 can do better? Are you kidding me? th-cam.com/video/sRB1D6OzNP4/w-d-xo.html 0-200 in 30 seconds th-cam.com/video/6TXAZstjkDg/w-d-xo.html 0-200 km/h in 11.9 seconds
If the main fans are using power from the battery to cool the battery, won't that heat up the battery? Because the current they will be pulling from the battery will be high right?
The cooling fans draw a few watts, nothing the battery pack will ever notice. But it's liquid cooled, so if I'm remembering correctly, it can also refrigerate the coolant if necessary using the A/C pump, which can draw something like 2-3 kW, which is also nothing the battery pack will ever notice heat-wise.
Any old Ford Focus can do 180 kph (actually more like 170, the speedo always displays a few more). Any sedan nowadays can sustain 200 all day. It's exhausting for the driver though, wind noise and high concentration make you require lots of breaks so you're not really getting anywhere faster. And you get a lot less "highway mpg" than it says on the window sticker. :-)
Watch the power dial on the left of the dash. Part way through you see dashed lines showing the power is being limited because the battery is becoming too warm.
Love the videos when people from other countries have thier first ride on our "Autobahn" :) If I drive 160 km/h I feel "sleepy", but in those videos you can see the difference in experience driving on a "limitless" (is this right in english?) street ^^ Made my day with this video, thx! ^^
Not underplaying it but I was seriously expecting it to be FASTER than that, specially considering its price. To clarify again: I know its wicked fast 0 to 60 but I was expecting a higher top speed of at least 300kph.
I just looked it up and Wikipedia says something different. An engine converters some kind of energy into mechanical energy (usually in order to create motion). A heat engine is an example of an engine, which converts heat into motion. A motor converts electrical energy into motion and is therefore an engine too. Engine is the general term and can refer to a heat engine or a motor, amongst others.
Big audi's and merc's can do 250 for hours on end, this car starts backing down after just a few minutes of fast driving. Long way to go before we can replace our fast diesel/petrol cars by electric cars in Europe. Also true fast cars go way beyond 250 on the AB so it's not really that exiting. Nice to see the progress that has been made though.
Totally agree with this car being the future, there is no doubt this is a revolutionary vehicle. But as I live in The Netherlands, ze Germans are never far away and I do like a little bit of speeding once in a while. So the car might not be for me, or people like me. As this short film was focused on driving fast on the autobahn I thought I mention this. That being said this car will fit most people just fine. And funds allowing it would be a great second car next to a fast and fun petrol car.
How Long do you think you will drive your loved Pedrol Cars unlimitet when Tesla and other companies bring there Elektric cars to reall mass produktion? 130kmh will come to Germany sooner as you expect
That car that lingered in front of you for a while was a Opel Zafira. It is involved in some scandal for turning of it's exhaust emission cleaning above certain speeds. I hope you passed it with bioweapon defense mode.
Seeing this makes me realize before I can replace my Car with a fully electric one will take a while. As I drive long distances on the Autobahn regularly in high speeds. Hamburg Munich. 1 times fueling in my Mercedes and I drive max whenever its possible upto 250 kmh for hours. I would have to add several hours for multiple times recharing the car to my travel time if I would take a Tesla.
First of all thanks for the video !!! , second be careful ! , and third thanks for the "tech tips" , i not have this kind of "space ship" , i ' have a really moderate "electric bicycle" , but technical problems are "technical problems" , so i notice the same in my humble bike , battery overheating in """high""" speed ( like 30 mph ) , and now before this video i will incorporate the "cool solution" electronically managed fan coolers , thank you and Tesla !!!!
Good on ya' brother, I'm sure it felt weird with no Petrol engine screaming out front at 150'ish mph!! NICE! I just did a border-to-border run across Germany, ooooohhhh I had such a good time. Loved all 6.5 hours that it took me!!
Off-Topic: Noticed a lot of Thule Cargo Boxes in Germany. We like our Thule Boxes in the US. And, they build them right outside of Chicago for the North American Market.
Well, I have nothing against driving fast, in fact as a typical German I do so myself but this video just shows (especially @ 4:55 ) why people who are not used to driving in Germany should read the rules first. Even if there is no general speed limit you have the obligation to adapt to the current traffic. If the police had seen you do this at 5:00 , your trip would've been over right there and then. You know, you really scare other drivers with this behaviour? Because of actions like that we are about to get general speed limits, too ... thanks! Please, just do it at night when nobody is bothered.
What the heck. What else are you supposed to do when driving fast, especially when not used to? That is completly normal behaviour and i have seen far worse. The only way to prevent something like that is with a speed limit. How can you even be sure that he was scared? He just cleared the road because he was probably to heavily loaded to accelerate. Dont force your opinion on how to drive on other people. Yes you should be judicius but surely not restriced by people who get scared from nothing. Especially your part on "autobahn rules" and the police are completly made up. What rule is that supposed to be?
I am driving often in Germany, and when somebody approaches me under full throttle while I am just about to overtake, I usually apply the brakes slightly, turn back into the right lane, let him pass and overtake afterwards. That's not because of me being scared, but simply an act of courtesy. The driver (at 5:00) was just considerate of him; at least that's my impression. The police would have zero interest in pulling him over. He is just not that of an experienced driver. Still, he is doing ok and has fun :)
can... but honestly you can almost never keep that speed up for longer than a few minutes because someone is on the left lane, so you have to slow down again, speed up again etc. best and cheapest travel speed is 130-150
1h30min from Leipzig to Downtown Berlin. Impossible with a Tesla because of the limitation. (and the battery as well) You can go over 200 to 250 kph for more than 10 or 20km if you choose the right time.
JeaneRace The guy in the video purposefully stressed the battery and rotors. If you don't constantly decelerate and accelerate to 250kmh like this guy did heat is a non issue. This car is able to sustain 200-250 easily.
This was funny to watch man! I also experienced the same shaking when going 195km/h in my Twingo for the first time, I also once did 205km/h in our Volvo XC70, was shaking a bit again so I guess it's normal :)
in Australia the right lane is for overtaking on highways and u use the middle lane for just driving and left for slow drivers but that's only if there are three lanes if there are two on a highway or freeway then left is for driving and right for overtaking and if u stay in the right lane u can get a ticket
About german motorways : It's not unrestricted, it's uncontrolled. If you crash on that kind of motorway at ludicrous speed (and survive), your standard insurance policy is void.
you'll hardly a country find where you'll see more speed measurements many routes have a speed limit but we also have a sign that tells you you may as fast as you can ... there is a sign with Weiss, a gray circle and five gray lines and as long as you do not ignore the situation on the road, there are no problems with the insurance
If you see a gray circle sign with five gray lines (called Unbegrenzt Schild / unlimited sign) :D Then you can drive as fast as you can or as fast as the car can. Explained by a German ;) 200-250km/h is normal :D every family van is driving faster than 150km/h.
Thanks for pointing out that the ludicrous mode goes beyond 0-60 mph (0-100 kmh) as all online articles that I've read only highlight the above numbers, but does not properly explore the full potential of the option. Would you be interested in creating an episode that compare a Tesla running with Lud mode activated vs one that doesn't, in terms of, range depreciation/appreciation, noticeable affects on the batteries, possible battery life degradation when use in either mode, etc?
Warlock On the site it explains that with the model 3 you have to pay for supercharging but the Model S and X get a free allowance of sorts like every month or something.
Why do all not Germans think that this was scary? You simply drive at normal speed 😉 we are at the way home from Norway. Love the country, but ill nearly get mad when i have to drive long distances here. It would take forever 😆
I did 263 last year on the autobahn in my dads C450 AMG, which was quite the experience, but gotta hand it to tesla for making a electric car that can approach 400 and up hp petrol top speeds...
Yikes! That is alot of energy use! Average 42.5 kWh /100km. At that rate you will have a range of 220 Km and use the equivalent of 9.2l/100 km of diesel. This is why electrics are not seen on the Autobahn. I comfortably cruise at 170 kmh in a Golf TDI and get in the 6'sl/100km. I would love an electric, but without a transmission, it just doesn't work for long distance at speeds above 120 kmh. I should specify that I am referring to costs here, not actual energy density. While electric is much more efficient, the cost of electricity vs. diesel means that diesel still makes more economic sense for now, especially for long-distance highway & autobahn.
That is incorrect. One litre of diesel contains 10 kWh of energy. 42.5 kWh/100 km will equal to 4.25 l/100 km. Even the most efficient production car won't be able to average that low consumption doing the hard accelerations I did. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density
In this video, I drive my "old" 2013 Model S P85 for 20 minutes averaging 200 km/h (63 km). No problem at all. th-cam.com/video/0tfZZNIv0Po/w-d-xo.html
You are right, but I am referring to cost not actual energy density. In Germany a kWh costs .25 Euro cents while a liter of Diesel is about 1.15 Euro at the moment. While I agree that an electric motor is much more efficient than an ICE, real world prices do not reflect that. Now that supercharging is no longer complementary, the economics have to make sense, and they do not right now if you travel long distances on the autobahn. :)
The cost of electricity in Norway is 0.07 €/kWh and the cost of diesel is 1.33 €/l. So that means a whopping 2.2 l/100 km. Even harder for fossil cars to beat that. As for the news about superchargers, I think you missed one very important point. All existing Teslas will still charge for free. Only new cars delivered after April 1st, 2017 will have to pay. And we don't know the price yet. Tesla said it will be low and that they are not going to profit on the charging network.
Wow that is so cheap! I actually got an email from my provider today, informing me that starting in October 2017, my electricity price will go up to .35 Euro cents per kWh! Clearly the economics of an electric car depend on your market, but like I said, in Germany and especially on the Autobahn, it doesn't make sense. I also think that this will impact the success of the model 3 in Germany. The model s and x, which receive the free charging, are niche vehicles and not reflective of the experience most electric car consumers will have.
lool "Achtung, das schnelle Elektroauto kommt..." BTW, if traffic allows, would it be possible to drive with 200 km/h constant for, let's say, an hour? Or will the battery get too hot and restrict the speed?
I even see them lugging behind trucks with 90 like those small cars with 30 hp toy engines. I will buy me self an electric car when they come close to 800 km per charge. I doing round 150 km per day and only diesels work for me and i can drive much faster than 120 and still burn like 6l/100 km.
what kind of diesel engines do you drive? What car company, engine size? I Drove a ford cmax 2013 2l TDCi on 6,4l/100km (90% autobahn, 10% city) without driving it very economic
2016 Fiat 1.6 mjet II 120/320Nm and 2013 Renault 1.5 dci 110/260Nm..1.6 is at 5.5l /100 at the moment still on winter tires and dci 110 is now mostly driving in the city and it is round 6.5l.. Smaller engines are more economical if not to weak, none of mines are ..
I am not from germany.. But i have an e36 m3 3.2 and it can go 270 km/h easier than this Electric car and never losing power (and the car is from 1997)
well a proper 80s car can also easily beat this thing, the Tesla just isn't that fast. acceleration, top speed and on track, there are much older cars much faster.
Got to love German drivers. They actually move over.
Yeah...but you can also get a fine, if you don't drive left lane if possible or if you pass on left lane!
confused by left and right?
+EinChris75
XD wtf did I write there?
Yeah of course left and right have to be switched in my comment...it must have been late or something...or maybe I was drunk?

Elites Engineering... Thats EU driving culture I guess...
just simple rule - if it is clear in right, you must drive right side, even if you drive 250kmh...
True, in the EU, especially germany, people move out of the way asap.
People call the police on you if you're driving 130 km/h lol..
Hamid Ali Here in Canada the police wont stop you if you go 10km/h above. People usually go 110 - 120 on the left lane.
haha...how he screams at 180 km/h...as a German I giggle
Tja, wir können es halt einfach. ;)
sure, but I hink it must be the feeling of accelartion, not the actual speed
Ich glaub das er ist nicht deutsch, aber er ist dänisch. tut mir leid mein deutsch ist nicht sehr gut.
as someone who hasnt been on autobahn, driving a 20 year old volvo i giggle too haha, my delta link (rear suspension arm busshing) are fucked up and at 170 ish kmh my cars rear end "wanders" around, didnt stop me driving it 220, had to let go because i got nervus about the rear end overtaking my front .

that's what you get when the driver license takes roundabout 4-6 month of training and costs ~2000€ for normal cars.
Hmmm, expensive drivers license is not cure to selfishness, common here. They all know, lol, however some of them are thinking about nothing but them self...and that is not US population specific.
Evan J it works the same in france
Even my phones battery drained faster watching this :)
😁
lol..
TheEosChannel HAHHAHAHAH YAS! XD xD
how to stack
You are experiencing range anxiety, contact to replace battery
Thank you so much for that, Bjørn! Another excellent run to remember.
Honestly I don't like long video-reviews, but you man are funny and I don't get bored. Best channel for Tesla's reviews! Subscribed.
I love how respectful the drivers there are. They move out of the way when they realize there is someone faster coming along.
Don't worry, I guess past 200 km/h bad commentary is excused as a rule.
Lol 120 isn't fast. I average 120 on the jersey turnpike all the time
we germans usually drive around 140-150. even up to 190 if the road is empty.
Ben Bubeck I wish our roads were smooth enough/there weren't so many idiots that we could cruise at 150mph

this is the first time I can only judge the speed by how exciting the man's voice is instead of engine roar, interesting
200km/h or more is normal speed for a German, but nice to see how much fun other People have to drive as fast as you can :-) nice vid !!! and by the way, this is the reason , why we have no cup holder ;-)
In canada max speed is 120km/h lol... and thats for high-way. You cant go faster than that or else you get a ticket.
or you break your car because of the bad roads...
+Hamid Ali | On limited Autobahn-sections with 120kmh-sign you can drive 150kmh and IF they bust you you have to pay a fee of about 30€ :)
shroom orr Thats wrong. You will also get a Flensburg point or if you are foreign have to pay more.
What are you talking? Its a 80€ fine + 28,50€ fee + 1 penalty point on our drivers licence.
Fascinating demonstration of the thermal management issues the engineers (and ultimately, the drivers) must deal with when trying to use >500 ps for extended periods. Thank you!
What was your supercharging speed with the hot battery?
Normal actually
can you give some details? How long to charge at a superC to 100% or what can i expect after 2 hrs?
love it thx for the vid.
Look at ALL the videos he has made..
Wait what was your top speed? I stared rewinding when you hit 240ish and atarted complaining that its too fast...
smiling bandit these cars have thermal cooling and heating systems for the batteries. Actually each individual little battery cell is in contact with the thermal management tubes.
Amazing reaction!
Thanks. Evidently I did not explain myself very well. Not important.
My favorite video of the week, man you are funny as hell 😂
you should have used a three lane Autobahn.
Amazing commentary. Usually other high speed vids have very little commentary. I enjoyed watching this.
May I know the "Mileage per Gallon" for this car? It looks nice.
102 city 105 highway empg
***** nice
Ummmm. It's electric bud. No MPG lol.
You can convert between energy potentials. hence you can calculate mpg even if it's full electric
oh ok cool. Didn't know that.
No matter what Tesla video i'm looking for there's always one from Bjørn! Gotta love it i absolutely love your videos keep up the good work!!
Soordhin also you cant drive that fast all the time in Germany lol
154 mph!!! Haha man dude you were flying!! That was fun to watch!
Would like to know if the battery could be cooled down enough to have full power again (and if how long it takes), when keeping Autobahn driving, let's say at an constant speed of 130 kmh!
Model S/X can cruise at 180-200 km/h continously.
No doubts about that, but... I meant to get back full power if doing so? All yellow dots should then disappear.
SOPM2007 Should take a few minutes.
Thank you. BTW your video is, again, amusing to watch. "ohoo, re-gen, re-gen, re-gen... " ;-))
You're a good guy - would be fantastic to be on your ride.
The rest of the world's drivers could learn a lot about this.
docalarm That’s because they don’t want to get a ticket. Laws in Germany are different.
So how long did it take for batteries to cool down and get full power back?
Whenever I watch a video from the autobahn I have a huge smile on my face ;)
In 2010 I brought my GTI from Canada to Germany just so I could enjoy driving it at proper speeds :D
Holy shit people are actually moving to the side!!!
Wesley Crabajales These are the rules on our Autobahn. Only overtake on the leftside. Thats why Most People Go on right lane. The Bad Part is, when they dont do it and You have to slow down every time
That's the rule in the USA also, but almost no one obeys it.
+Benjamin Brooks That doesn't make any sense tbh. Stay in the right lane, left lane for overtaking
This is amazing, even with the battery over heating, the performance is still amazing!
Don't worry. I did many 200+ km/h runs later. It was just a bit scary taking a 2600 kg fully electric SUV to this speeds for the first time.
Bjørn Nyland - Try doing it with the falcon wing doors opem!
I kinda felt your adrenalin at the top speed of 248km. Made me smile, thank you.
Man, 155 MPH in an electric car. Tesla is breaking new grounds.
And that's a software speed limit. The hardware can go faster.
I don't think the top speed is software limited much. At around 155Mph the motor is spinning at close to 30,000 RPM which is nearing the maximum it can do. There's a good thread on a forum that goes though it with all the calculations and gear ratios. Even the wheel diameter is considered.
That is incorrect. At top speed, the rear motor is spinning at 16,500 rpm. The front motor is geared higher and is spinning at even "lower" rpm.
Very nice car. If anyone ever starts an argument again about real power is only coming from combustion engines, i'll refer to this video.
For extreme electric performance:
techcrunch.com/2016/11/21/nextevs-new-nio-ep9-electric-supercar-holds-a-nurburgring-world-record/
Nio EP9 finished Nordschleife in 7:05 and makes it the 5th fastest car on the ring. Yes, that's right. An electric car is faster than Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Aventador and Koenigsegg CCX.
plica06 every electronic still faces overheating issues. But I'm sure over time it will be fixed.
Sulfen The limitation is not in the electric motor(s). Tesla chose efficiency over extreme performance. That doesn't mean that others can't make an electric sports car:
arstechnica.com/cars/2016/11/nextevs-nio-ep9-electric-supercar-sets-a-new-nurburgring-record/
I'm impressed by how everyone who sees him behind them moves over to give him way! Here in El Paso, Texas people will even mock you by brake-testing you!
Can you drive with autopilot enabled at 150+ km/h?
im 17 and i have went 200 km/h and only last week 180 km/h with winter tires , gotta love Autobahn
A guy on Bjorns facebook page actualy says that it is not a battery that is over heating while doing hard acelerations but stator.
Hey...glad to see you made it home. :-)! Very Exhilarating! Totally surprised as to what Tesla can do!
This is so scary even to watch! You have guts I'll give you that :)
This is comparable to supercars.
alex sagel well the friend I was talking about goes regularly past 300 so...
+alex sagel it's insanely fast from the start, that's true. because all the power is available from the first second on. But if it comes to acceleration from a faster point (like 150 to 250) the car is rather slow.
I'll have to ask him what car is it but I suspect it's something special, probably M or if they do some other sporty packet? It looks pretty beast.
Glad you enjoyed your time in Germany :) Greetings from Berlin and thanks for your videos!
"Electric cars are for pussies"
Just going to link this video to everyone who says that to me now lmfao!
julien grandmougin Have you driven a Tesla before? The only way to describe it is it's the same feeling as taking off in a jet. Remember, this car is not a sports car, it's a consumer sedan.
julien grandmougin What's your point...
julien grandmougin Too bad for you then :) Let's not forget that Model X is 2600 kg. Your fossil is 1400 kg only.
julien grandmougin Exactly. Weight affects acceleration. And I was talking about acceleration.
julien grandmougin X5 can do better? Are you kidding me?
th-cam.com/video/sRB1D6OzNP4/w-d-xo.html
0-200 in 30 seconds
th-cam.com/video/6TXAZstjkDg/w-d-xo.html
0-200 km/h in 11.9 seconds
Love the video. You are very good at driving fast. Looks quite safe!
If the main fans are using power from the battery to cool the battery, won't that heat up the battery? Because the current they will be pulling from the battery will be high right?
I'm guessing that its not so much
The cooling fans draw a few watts, nothing the battery pack will ever notice. But it's liquid cooled, so if I'm remembering correctly, it can also refrigerate the coolant if necessary using the A/C pump, which can draw something like 2-3 kW, which is also nothing the battery pack will ever notice heat-wise.
If batteries have weight, won't adding more batteries lower the range?
The effect is better than the cost.
An amazing car. Thank you for showing its benefits.
Nothing like this in Australia. Max on public road is 110km/h on the highway.
Peter Smith there is an unrestricted stretch of road in Australia
Samuel Turner there are places in the Northern Territory where you can drive really fast. just be very careful of the kangaroos at that speed.
That's real-time information, thank you, it will be very useful for me in the future.
when i did that in a 2015 s500 i watched the gas needle move down when going over 200 - incredible that you go that fast without using fuel
258 kmh/154 mph f#@k
258kmh / 161mph
21% of speed of sound!
Did he hit 258? I only saw 248 at 4:45 into the video. Anyways, it's super fast, I've been on the autobahn at 220kph and that is already ludicrous!
+davemanmartin | depends on what car you driving. 250kmh is pretty chill with a nice ride.
shroom orr lol
Loved it when you said that was a fast minivan somewhere in your vid. I laughed too.
So funny how exited he is just hitting 200 km/h i've done this in driving school :D
Alle nicht-Deutschen haben sowas halt noch nie gemacht :D
z1rk3l
Jap finds aber trotzdem ganz lustig
So beautiful.. driving that car and the wind turbines making more power along the roadside.
What did yoy mean by the 200/400 kw power limit?
Battery got too hot so it cut the power to 200kw.
Watch the power dial on the left of the dash. Part way through you see dashed lines showing the power is being limited because the battery is becoming too warm.
+Clive Flint thank you guys
Love the videos when people from other countries have thier first ride on our "Autobahn" :) If I drive 160 km/h I feel "sleepy", but in those videos you can see the difference in experience driving on a "limitless" (is this right in english?) street ^^ Made my day with this video, thx! ^^
Not underplaying it but I was seriously expecting it to be FASTER than that, specially considering its price. To clarify again: I know its wicked fast 0 to 60 but I was expecting a higher top speed of at least 300kph.
Engine converts thermal energy to motion. There's no engine in a Tesla.

This Video is sooooo cool!! :D I love your Videos!
i live in Germany now and this is the only time i saw an tesla overtaeking any thing else than truks.
wow the german lane discipline is amazing
Shiieeeet!!
this is the most awesome vid i seen in youtube..
tesla ftw!
+SWR112 your friends need to be getting amgs, S/RS or Ms if they want top end acceleration that will destroy the tesla
Bjørn! That was incredible! Nice!
The heat limitation is kicking in earlier than I expected to be honest
He purposefully stressed it. You will rarely get the heat limitation if you don't do that.
This is really awesome
That car that lingered in front of you for a while was a Opel Zafira. It is involved in some scandal for turning of it's exhaust emission cleaning above certain speeds. I hope you passed it with bioweapon defense mode.
Bioweapon defense mode for a single car i’m dying😂
The accleration is insane....have fun!
I would have to add several hours for multiple times recharing the car to my travel time if I would take a Tesla.
yeah I'm just never gonna replace a normal car with a electric car.
“Okay let’s go then”
100 to 150 in half a second
Can’t wait for the roadster
Do love the German roads. Nice video. And some great speeds. Touched similar in my porsche and you have to really focus on traffic. Well done.
HAMMERZEIT!!!!!!!!!!
like hanzel&gretyl hammerzeit🔨?
If the question isn't ironic "Hammerzeit" means something like "great/awesome/uber"-Time ;)
+DeinefreieGlotze ja but ich meinte ja nur es gibt ein lied der Gruppe Hanzel...... das so heisst! just jokin a bit
+juan harb Hammertime literally translatet Hammerzeit😂 natürlich falsch but funny
+juan harb Stop - Hammerzeit!
Good on ya' brother, I'm sure it felt weird with no Petrol engine screaming out front at 150'ish mph!! NICE! I just did a border-to-border run across Germany, ooooohhhh I had such a good time. Loved all 6.5 hours that it took me!!
lol.. how everyones thinks you can drive unlimited speed everywhere on german highways. Its only in some areas.
Some Fortnite Clips 67,5% of the german highways are unrestricted according to wiki
i am living in germany and its on the most highways who are outside of cities.
Alterate Awful Thats old numbers
This proves that "car guys" are the same all over the world! They all enjoy driving a car that has performance! :)
hehe, "sheeeet!"
Off-Topic:
Noticed a lot of Thule Cargo Boxes in Germany.
5:00 was really fucked up driving -.-
where can I read the official autobahn rules?
Go fck yourself! His foot was on the brake pedal so stfu!
You know you are in Germany when you drive 250 km/h and an Audi wants to overtake you with over 300 km/h
I don't need a car which limits its power after 7 minutes of faster driving on the Autobahn. A real german diesel can do 200-250 kph for hours...
can... but honestly you can almost never keep that speed up for longer than a few minutes because someone is on the left lane, so you have to slow down again, speed up again etc. best and cheapest travel speed is 130-150
1h30min from Leipzig to Downtown Berlin. Impossible with a Tesla because of the limitation. (and the battery as well)
You can go over 200 to 250 kph for more than 10 or 20km if you choose the right time.
The limitation isn't sustaining the speed, it's constantly accelerating and decelerating from it. The car can sustain 200-250 kph easily.
Nope it can not because of the limitation due to temperature. ;) Impossible to go 200+ for minutes!
4:40 250 kmh
Gran's Stuff thanks, was wondering when he'd finally start driving somewhat fast.
in Australia the right lane is for overtaking on highways and u use the middle lane for just driving and left for slow drivers but that's only if there are three lanes if there are two on a highway or freeway then left is for driving and right for overtaking and if u stay in the right lane u can get a ticket
About german motorways : It's not unrestricted, it's uncontrolled. If you crash on that kind of motorway at ludicrous speed (and survive), your standard insurance policy is void.
you'll hardly a country find where you'll see more speed measurements
many routes have a speed limit but we also have a sign that tells you you may as fast as you can ...
there is a sign with Weiss, a gray circle and five gray lines
and as long as you do not ignore the situation on the road, there are no problems with the insurance
"sheeeeeeet"
@Bjørn Nyland
is it true that cars after 2017 don't have free supercharger usage?
Warlock On the site it explains that with the model 3 you have to pay for supercharging but the Model S and X get a free allowance of sorts like every month or something.
Why do all not Germans think that this was scary? You simply drive at normal speed 😉 we are at the way home from Norway. Love the country, but ill nearly get mad when i have to drive long distances here. It would take forever 😆
So if you are from Norway , do all speedometers there show only Kilometers per hour, instead of miles per hour, like we use in United States ?
I did 263 last year on the autobahn in my dads C450 AMG, which was quite the experience, but gotta hand it to tesla for making a electric car that can approach 400 and up hp petrol top speeds...
What does the "L" in "P90DL" stand for? I can't find an explanation anywhere 😕
It's not an official name. But many people put an L there to indicate that it has the Ludicrous upgrade.
The model s and x, which receive the free charging, are niche vehicles and not reflective of the experience most electric car consumers will have.
lool "Achtung, das schnelle Elektroauto kommt..."
BTW, if traffic allows, would it be possible to drive with 200 km/h constant for, let's say, an hour? Or will the battery get too hot and restrict the speed?
Every Tesla i see on fast highways drives around 120 kmh..
roki977 - power saving bro
Great video! Looking forward to owning my first tesla. You have a beautiful ride there :)
thought the tesla is limited to 200 kmh?!
th-cam.com/video/6TXAZstjkDg/w-d-xo.html
Popk1ller it’s limited to 250 km/h
This video is gonna get famous, nice one :-)
if only forza had it were the cars fkin move off the high way :(
You should do this run again with the regeneration braking on low or turned off. So the battery won't get so hot so quickly.
I am not from germany.. But i have an e36 m3 3.2 and it can go 270 km/h easier than this Electric car and never losing power (and the car is from 1997)
And also never felt any heat from the car
well a proper 80s car can also easily beat this thing, the Tesla just isn't that fast. acceleration, top speed and on track, there are much older cars much faster.
Niels Vantilburg This is a luxury SUV doing 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Of coarse $300K+ cars can do faster than 2.9s... triple the price of the model X
Wow German drivers are actually considerat!
