Thank you for the blade locking tool! I tried wood, a big jack and other things to try and stop that blade from moving while torquing down!
Yes if you don't have an impact that is the best way... i've used vice grips in the past.. that kinda works, but not as good.

I ran over boulder in my back yard while mowing and now when I engage the mower blades I hear the blades grinding on something, not sure what it is just yet but I just ordered new blades because I suspect they are bent. This video exactly what I was looking for because I don't have jack or ramps. Hopefully it's just the blades that's causing the grinding new when i first engage the mower blades.
It sounds like the blades surely could be bent... Make sure to check the spindles to see if they got broken... I believe you can see them clearly from the top if you take the guards off... check out the ears that the bolts mount through.. Thats the weak part and more than likely will break there if they're going to break. A fast way to check is to grab hold of a blade and shake it up and down.. there should be very little movement if any. Hope that helps!

What if I don’t have a blade blocker to hold the blades in place to unscrew them?
You can ratchet the blade to the planet and the centrifugal force of the universe revolving around everyone will naturally loosen and or torque them to spec @jakekwood

Yes that sounds right. The 54" is a heavier duty deck. This 42 is a much cheaper one if I remember right...
On mine the shaft turns anyway, separate from the blade. Stopping the blade does nothing for me. I’m having a really hard time loosening them.
Something is totally wrong with that! The blade tightens up to the shaft and they absolutely should not turn independent from each other. The bolt sounds like it backed out a little and then froze in place. I'd have to see it of course to really see what's going on, but you may have to replace the spindle.
Semi helpful! Not showing how you put it back together is a big miss to me! Putting the belts back on, raising the deck to line everything up would've been extremely helpful.
Sorry about that.. usually I show pretty detailed how to take it apart and back together is in reverse. I will certainly keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks for the feedback.
If u have any common sense and a basic socket set you should be able to figure it out..
So for the torque bar you just set it to 60 and it does all the work, you just crank it untill its tight? Never used one before.
HI, when you set a torque wrench to 60 or any setting, the torque wrench will make a click when it reaches the "set" amount. If you're not used to it, you should set it to a low setting like 20 and practice with it so you can see how it works... 😀

What if you don't have a wrench to measure how much torque to apply?
Technically it should be torqued to factory specs, but honestly I hardly ever use a torque wrench to tighten a blade. I'm not telling you to do that, especially if you don't have a feel for how tight it should be.😀

You left out the hardest part off all- reinstalling the deck. Getting that thing to hook by myself is almost impossible
If you leave the controls all the way down it makes things a lot easier. You can even use 2x4 blocks under the deck to hold the deck up a little bit if that helps.. It's pretty easy.
