A guy's father gets killed and all he does is sit his ass at home, freeload off of his allowance and just stand in his room, not even sleeping all day, just standing still like a tree. I feel like Lan Di just feels personally insulted on behalf of all of Ryo's ancestors, which is the reason of him killing the little lazy shit
An easy way to advance time is to fail the prompt when trying to catch the flashlight when sneaking past the guardhouse when trying to get into the warehouse. Each failure will advance you to the next evening.
I inadvertently got this ending …. I played on Dreamcast back in 2000 and was trying to get every entry in my diary. I saw some thugs coming to fight me in a district and purposely back off to put the confrontation off. I then went about what I was doing, and once ready to progress, I’d broken the game …. I couldn’t get the scene to activate and locked myself out of the main story. I couldn’t bring myself to start over and kept trying everything till I hit April …… It wasn’t until they released both game on PS4 that I went back and finished the game and then played the sequel through. I tried Shenmue 3 right after …. Gotta be honest, I loved the first one but 2 was more of a chore, and 3 lost me. I ended up watching a TH-cam playthrough rather than make myself play it.
The me for sharing I recently played two for the first time, it has a different t vibe for sure. Wouldn’t call it a chore, just didn’t like the new controller layout. It actually speed up the gameplay a lot, capsule toy machine animation was super fast now, as well as the battles.
Thanks for sharing but there is a small mistake, Ryo isn't working to pay the ticket, he works in order to reach the mad angels gang.... This gang was making fun of the new personnel in the harbor. At this point he had already paid the ticket and it was already stolen. Also somedays later learns that Lan di is still around. Sorry for my English I think that I have some mistakes.

Not to mention they already change the vegetation for spring, but that would also force them to have the cherry tree in flowers, then summer, than fall... lots of added work. Another reason I could think of, is that they weren't sure they'd ever be able to end the series, so this at least gives *some* ending. Ryo dies, Lan Di wins, The end.
Another thing too about the bad ending is if the player decides to have Ryo move on with his life playing arcade games, buying toy capsules, soda and all sorts of other collectibles in the game and Lan-Di still kills him in the end. Some might say that ruins the whole moral of revenge isn’t the answer. But in actuality, Lan-Di only returned because he had since been informed of Iwao also having the Phoenix mirror. So if Ryo handed over the mirror no problem, Lan-Di likely wouldn’t have killed him and would’ve left for good.

I have been playing this game for 23 years, seen countless of videos on it and this is the first time I have heard of this. Absolutely chilling. Wish it were a bit more drawn out. Is this ending on all 3 discs?
I am right there with you. I bought Shenmue for Dreamcast the day it was released and over the years, have played it many, many times. I've often wondered if you you could just keep going until you got to the current time but never even got to this ending. I have read where the game wanted you to finish by the time the cherry tree dropped it's blossoms (flowers? leaves?) but never even got that far because as I'm sure you know, it takes a long, LONG time and even long before that, you can have done literally everything, seen everything, trained all of your moves to the max level. I didn't actually know until very recently that there was a bad ending and haven't seen it until today. I'm glad someone had the patience to do it and uploaded it so we could see it. Now, as for the past 23 or so years, I am still very much hoping (as I'm sure a lot of other people are) that we will get to finish the story! I was so happy when I found out there was going to be a Shenmue 3 and I wish it would have advanced the story more. I've heard rumors that there will be a Shenmue 4. I don't know how much truth there is to it but time will tell. Shenmue 1 and 2 have always been among my favorite games and love to revisit them from time to time but I want to finish the story! I don't want to die of old age without being able to see it through to the end. As a side note, if you haven't already done this, go on Google Earth, type in "Dobuita" or Yokosuka, etc. and check out the street views. It's just a like it appears in the game 🙂

My fav detail is in shenmue 2 where you go to the temple and an incredibly animated tai chi fast form plays out.
Could be they didn’t want to punch in the historical weather data by hand any more than necessary.

If you don't nurse the cat back to health you miss some events and conversations with people, notably Nozomi.
