Ive been looking for a good review of this guitar and i luckily bought this even without seeing some good review. I love the maple top. And the spruce is not available here. Only the tobacco and maple. Actually the maple is hard to find because they said it's limited. I notice between the 2 spruce is louder. But i already have Dreads spruce so i opt for maple because the flame is so awesome.

I have the Yamaha APXT2EW that is their 3/4 scale version of this and it’s just amazing plugged in but not so great unplugged. However, it has the great low action of the 600 and flawless fretwork! Perfectly smooth fret edges and no high frets and no grit on them either. It’s a great stage guitar because it’s plugged in sound rivals that of any $3,000.00 acoustic!

      1. Unrealistic expectation for the $$$. 2. Why? Are your skills up to making significantly superior sounds with a solid spruce top?
Nothing whatsoever wrong with laminar construction. And I've got news for you. The APX600 body is laminar as well. Most are these days, and laminate construction has advantages. You won't find non-laminar construction in any guitar you'd want to own under $1k e.g. Yamaha AC3R @$1.3k locally, if you can find one in these COVID "I've always wanted to learn to play guitar" times. Yamaha's APX600 is an exceptional guitar, utterly stunning performer regardless, and especially for its price point. Yamaha have changed the stated specs a little though since it released. Mine was an initial batch APX600 when they specified Nato neck and body, the name for Eastern Mahogany. Higher grade Rosewood grains implemented in the fingerboard then too. With ever increasing demand for this awesome in class instrument and possibly to contain its price point insofar much as they can, now it's whatever's available at the time aka "Tonewood" which covers a gamut of sins.

Try D'Addario EJ16's on it. It comes fitted OOTB with coated EXP16s, or used to. Uncoated EJ16s sound so much warmer and fuller. You'd be forgiven for thinking they were made expressly for this guitar. Just beautiful tones. Might come OOTB with Elixirs now, as Yamaha seem to be fitting them OEM to Revstars and others,m so they may have renegotiated and contracted them as OEM supplier. Not an Elixir fan.

@@TheSupart91 Trust me. Had mine for three years. Accepting that feel is a personal preference, I actually prefer the feel of uncoated, the major reason is that uncoated D'Addario EJ16s on this guitar sound so much better than the EXP16s. They take away the comparative dullness always accompanying coated strings regardless of brand, reduce the overly bright adding warmth bringing out the best tones from this guitar. Try them unless you're Elixir brand blind. You might even like 'em. You'll love the price too.

I ended up having a bad experience with my APX600 with a badly warped body to the extent the bridge was lifting. Had it replaced under warranty and the new guitar came from the factory in exactly the same condition so that was the end of my Yamaha experience. Loved the guitar and the flamed maple tobacco finish was stunning, was gutted to see it go so wrong. Replaced it with an Epiphone J200 Studio Parlor that has pretty much the same sized body and provides the same easy playing experience but the build quality far exceeds that of the Yamaha. With hindsight I would have gone straight for the Epiphone, it feels and plays like a much more expensive guitar and glad I opted for the smaller body over the jumbo that almost swayed me.
