I used to work as a janitor in this huge justice center and one night I turned off all the the lights in the stairway and turned the basement lights off too .....I went in with my phone inside my shirt pocket with its flash on but I got to scared to even step down the first set of stairs ......I would never survive in silent hill
Because the Triple A market relies on Jumpscares and the cheapest scare tactics. At least modern indie games are taking massive influence from SH1/2 and actually focusing on atmosphere

I do remember seeing cluttered objects I think. But after that phone call when I went there and saw no obstacles and a door that somehow I completely "missed" that was super bone chilling. SH2 is the less scary of the first 4 games, it has the best story and soundtrack though SH1 is the scarier and since SH3 shares the same style as its direct sequel it's almost as scary, so I 100% agree with you

Music is frightening as hell (lol). But SH3 otherworld is by far the creepiest and disturbing, there are no moments that you can relax and amunition is sparse. Enemies are fast and loud and sound design is top notch. Very stressful experience.

I played SH2 a little bit before playing 3. The hospital was the same map for the most from SH2. When the Hospital went into the Dark world I was expecting it to be like in the 2nd game. Boy, was I in for a surprise when I stepped out into that hallway and saw the hellscape Heather's version of the dark world hospital was.

Ya know what sucked for me,i kepted going into the mirror room by accident 3 times trying to go into the other room.But once i got to the other room i went to the one where leonard was.I was at least hoping that leonard would at least help us but instead he flipped out.

The siren represents violent memories and forceful transition, This one was Heather's journey to the past by her own volition. Notice the labyrinth tunnel, that's her own siren, it's like stumble through buried and fractured memory of her past life.

Because the siren also connected to the state of REM sleep, a time we can vividly remembering our dreams. As such, when the Siren blaring it doesn't mean the town brought the power down on them, it means the character is about to fall asleep and enter their own nightmare, while the town just answering them, turning their deepest thought into reality whether they wants it or not.
