2004 Honda Odyssey SRS Light code 6.1 Fixed $10.00

- 2004 Honda Odyssey EX got a SRS light on with no Seatbelt light. Put a paper clip between pin 4 and 9 on OBD2 terminal and watch the SRS light blinked 6 long flashes followed by 1 short flash indicated that is a 6.1 code "open circuited In Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch".
Solution:
1. Open the driver side belt buckle and clean out the switch with Electrical/Contact cleaner bought from Autozone for $10.
2. Reset the SRS light to clear the trouble code and the seatbelt light now come back on (off when put on seat belt).
Tools use in this video: A paper clip, T 10 security bit with a drill, a can of Electrical/Contact cleaner, and a scribe.

Press the lever of the switch down just enough and spray in the cleaner. Good job that you opened only the buckle's covering casing. There are people who actually remove the ENTIRE front driver seat!
I wish they sell that switch it would make the job easier (it's almost look like a microwave door switch). I tried not to damage the seal, but if the seal is in good shape, it will not allow the cleaner to get inside the switch and clean out the contact. As I tried to lift the seal up, it came a parts and I damaged it. Anyway, the cleaner got in and clean out the contact and I did not see that light come back on yet. Since then, I never eat in the driver side again.
@@truerenegade1095 The seal helps prevent dirt from getting into the switch. With that seal damaged, it's a maintenance item now but at least you know how to make a quick fix.

I have this problem with my '05 Element. I hooked up my Innova 3100RS scan tool and it reported that the driver's seat belt buckle was faulty. I cleaned the buckle and cleared the code using the method presented in this video and it worked for a while. Now the SRS light is back on. I have a passenger side seat belt buckle I got from a scrap yard and will attempt to swap out the switch. The theory being that the passenger buckle sees 50% less use so therefore may be in better shape to begin with.
I learned from a guy repair the same thing on a Civic, Accord, and Odyssey. So it should work for Honda vehicles.
Thank you very much for your complete guide. I was too lazy to try all systematically. So I did just spray WT40 inside the boot while I slightly open a tiny gap between the the switch button and the boot. It seems to work well. It might be my luck to have only one issue. Your explanation is clear and right to the point.
Congratulations on the WD-40 spray!!! I'm glad to hear that it working out for you. 2 of my friends tried it on their vehicle with WD-40 and ended up using
the electrical contact cleaner to get it to work. Anyway, the lesson for them is not to eat in the car because there are more than dust collected in the seat belt buckle.
I have the paperclip connected and turn the key to on, the light went out for a couple seconds and while the paperclip was still in it, the srs light came back on. So what do i do now?

@@daleg5553 with the obd2 terminals 4 and 9 connected, turn your key to second click(accessory). The SRS light will turn off, then it will come back and start flashing. You will start counting each time it flash. Pay attention to long flashes and follows by the short flashes. Don't worry if you missed the count because it will repeat these flashes. That is how you get the trouble code.
@@daleg5553 in my case, it flashes 6 long flashes follow by 1 short flash, then it will repeat 6 long 1 short flash, 6 long 1 short ....so the code is 6.1 = driver side seat belt.

Great job ..have a 2003 accord replaced. Srs module seat belts and have code for odps internal. Failure changed module in the seat with a used one still same code after clearing code light goes out and comes right back
This trick should work on all model of Honda with SRS system. I learn this from a guy fixing a Civic.

I just took it to the dealer. Honda warranties seat belt components for life. They replaced the buckle free of charge.
Thanks I actually have that problem now in my 2004 honda odyssey, I'll try it tomorrow with this step by step, I hope I works, if so that will save me to expend up to $250, that's what my honda dealer said they charge to fix that code!!!! Wish me luck!

I did all this I got the obd code 6,1 than I cleaned the belt switch unplugged the yellow connector and jumped the way you showed in the video 2 blink and the reset blink goes off for maybe 2 second and than turn on, what you think is wrong as it did not help.Thanks
1. Make sure you clean the switch good with electronic cleaner. The cleaner have to penetrate the contact point inside the switch. I ended up damage the rubber seal to get the cleaner inside the switch. Just clean the switch on the outside will not fix the problem. or see if you can buy the seat belt from the junk yard where you live.
True Renegade I used alcohol to clean the switch and lifted the rubber boot with a pin so the alcohol penetrates in the switch I think I’ll try again with contact cleaner hope it works. Thank you

Clean the switch inside the seat belt.
I was asking for a right hand 2000 honda odyssey 2000 how to turn the srs light of everytime I ask its giving me left hand drive not left I'm from New Zealand
Sorry for the confusing. I'm not from New Zealand so I don't know how the cars set up over there. The Right or Left hand drive are described as the location of the steering wheel. The Left (Driver side) or Right (Passenger side) are described for the cars build in the US. I'm not rich enough to own every model cars world wide so I can only show you what car that I actually work on that made in the US.
I hv code 6.1 too, Im sure 6.1 code is driver buckle driver side....no matter right hand or left hand steering wheel

If you have obd II scanner can't you clear this? I have a Bluetooth one but nothing comes up on the app
Some scanner supports ABS,SRS, DPS,TPMS... and some don't. If it doesn't show up on your scanner, then your scanner can not clear it since it does not support that particular system. In this case, it's the SRS system and in this video, I showed you how to fix it without the scanner.
Do you know how to open up the buckle if there's no screws? I have a 2003 odyssey and it doesn't have the screws to open the buckle. There's just an arrow on it, but I don't want to break the thing.
on another video a guy just sprays contact cleaner spray down into the buckle clip, and pushes the belt buckle into the clip multiple times, sprays again, again works it with the buckle a few times - and it seamed to work for him - so you may try that first before going to more complicated solution.
Another TH-cam video channel Ktec Garage had a video SRS Light Fix and Reset where he pried the two halves of the buckle plastic apart at the seam with a flat screwdriver. Sorry this is two years after you posted your question.

Would this method work for honda pilot 2003 to clear the SRS light, it has the same engine like the honda odyssey.
I don't have a Pilot to test it out but It should work, give it a try.
This is a lot of work to remove the silly sensor light... I understand air bags doesn't work without properly cleaning up the belt
But it's a lot cheaper than take it to the dealer.
