I think another point worth mentioning in reg Hs favor is that the lack of legendaries means putting teams together in the actual game is a LOT less time intensive than most other formats. It was enough to get me to actually try VGC for the first time, because the time investment required to get a team together in a lot of other formats was the main thing stopping me from dipping ny toes. I had a blast!
True! That's a great point I didn't think about making this. The only issue I had was getting blood moon Ursaluna since you only get one per save. But otherwise teams were a lot easier to make. Even most hisuian Pokemon you can trade and breed for.

damn, Reg H was a super fun format. This was a really great format to get into competitive with. I'm not super jazzed about Reg G returning but I'm looking forward to continuing. I do wish VGC was bigger in Australia, though.
I was planning on covering the Perth regional but there was no recording of the matches! I would have had to compile the usage stats myself since I couldn't find them either, was super bummed myself about that. I'm not the biggest reg G fan either but I'll still be playing as I think it helps develop gameplay skills that other formats don't.
When Wolfy put up his team sheet in his community tab post-Toranto, I initially thought it was just a Rain Team....but someone in the comments said "Wolfey, this is the 7th time you'rve shown off Perish Trap. Isn't there anything else?"

Bro I've had a blast with Reg H, it was the only format that I made competent teams with my favorite pokemon like Tyranitar and Gallade. It's such a shame that we're going back to the legedaries because now I'm 100% I will not make at least 1 team that will adapt to my style

@TheDelybird It's pretty much as Google said it, but without -uh- part. It's hard to say it with no practice so I recommend sticking with Guh-dinesk.(saying it fast enough also works) Thankfully Gdańsk is one of the easier cities to say correctly.

Watching this video gave me the most enjoyment I’ve experienced watching a video in a long while. I’m going to my first regional soon, so I’ve been trying to watch a lot of VGC videos, and often they aren’t particularly enjoyable. This was such a breath of fresh air, with it being informative, interesting, and visually appealing, as well as having a great thumbnail and a very engaging speaking voice. Cannot emphasize enough how good this was, keep it up.

@TheDelybird San Antonio; it’s less than a day’s drive from where I live and it’s one of the only upcoming weekends I’m completely free on. I’m pretty pumped to finally get into competitive Pokémon; I just played the entire main Scarlet story in less than a day just so I could get a Koraidon to transfer to my main Violet save file.
This format was quite fun for me. During reg G I took a break from ladder to play through the gameboy and DS era games, so when I saw my yellow team GOAT, Exeggutor rank so well in a regional, it gave me an idea to see how many other mons from my in game teams I could make work. I'm happy to report that out of the 84 mon legal in reg H, 36 have appeared on successful teams, with 6 more currently in the works. I'll keep busting out and testing teams til the format ends on January 5th
Love you vids, really helped make getting into Pokémon fun! Personally I started playing competitive because reg H seemed and is really fun. Would love a video analyzing what’s more important, fun, and what shapes the meta in restricted formats, since it feels quite different
It was so nice to have a break from the chaos of reg G. But still, it felt like we went nowhere, since we went right back to reg G. Instead, since maybe we are on our last year, we do a mythical format with Pokemon like melmetal and shaymin allowed, similar to what SW/SH did

I personally really really loved reg H and I hope something similar to it comes back for future gens. I remember really trying to make primarina work (it sucks lmao too fast and weak to be a trick room sweeper, too slow and not bulky enough to be a utility pick) experimenting with hisuian decidueye, adjusting rain teams, having a lot of fun with sun room (my favourite team personally) and adjusting to the rapidly evolving metagame. Every week felt fresh, it felt like the format was never truly solved and it wouldn't be for some time. I could play an entire year of reg H and not get bored vs begging reg G to just end already after a month.

Got into competitive a bit during BDSP but really started suring Reg H. Now playing Reg G the power level is so much different. Almost every team i run into has prankster Tornadus and I can't do a thing to stop the tailwind. So its like i either have to get one myself or just make a trickroom team
Restricted formats are definitely harder to get into. But you have the right idea. Matching tailwind is one way to deal with it, otherwise fake out users can stun the setter for a turn. Trick room is also good into it, and learning how to stall it out/play around it is effective but more difficult to learn/execute.
@TheDelybird I have a Kilowattrel and tried to use tailwind myself but got taunted. So if I would have paired it with a fakeout mon I should've been good right? If they're holding the item that ignores fake out what can I do to stop it?
@@MikeHawkJuices Covert Cloak will stop fake outs, taunt can be effective against covert cloak opponents. Having prankster as a tailwind setter is incredibly beneficial as you can move before getting taunted, unless they also have prankster and are faster.

I wish there were more ways to punish and counter the top single restricteds. what if there was a rule set with 1 single restricted box legendary, and only 2 mythical pokémon. would that be a fun?
Mythicals are very interesting to consider. A lot of them are pretty middling or bad, but some of them would be so problematic like Darkrai or Pecharunt I think they would be unhealthy overall.
@ I wish mythical were legal because I’d love to run Transform Mew with Ditto and Transform Smeargle to copy Calyrex Shadow Rider, Miraidon, and Rillaboom’s terrain to control teams and run four restricteds with the help of mew and magearna

I’m personally a huge hater of inaccurate moves, but it genuinely felt like sandbagging to run full accuracy even on comps like rain. Wouldn’t say I’m excited for Reg G return, but I am happy that I’ll be playing my tournaments of the year with it since there’s archetypes I’m comfortable and consistent with.
What other meta aspects of reg H felt too RNG reliant to you? Sneasler was really the only thing with a big RNG factor. Everything else was pretty consistent.

Reg H having stuff like scale shot dnite, rock slide spam, ewebs/volc etc being on every meta team (best accurate team i can think of was the factura rain team - and you might still have to hit a clutch hurricane or two…) and part of most game plans was a huge negative for me
@KindaKaon Ah i see what you mean, yea 90% acc moves can be annoying for sure. Scale shots accuracy is the reason I chose a different team for my last tournament. But I wouldn't say 90% makes or breaks a metagame, is all personal preference tho. But having a more accurate metagame is always good.
Super hot take, not a big fan of Reg H. While Reg H is the format that got me into vgc in my 15 yrs of playing Pokémon, I will say I find Reg G more bearable. Reg H gives u the illusion of free choice, when in reality ur stuck to using counters against that stupid Archaludon & Pelipper combo. Because of the lack of legendaries, a lotta Pokemon don’t really stand a chance against threats like Archaludon, Sneasler, & Ursaluna. At least in Reg G, every Pokemon is super op to the point that it’s balanced.
I have seen that take before so you aren't along. I would have to disagree though. Although mons like sneasler and archaludon are super strong, especially after researching for this video and going over usage stats, archaludon was never number 1 usage. I think 5th or 6th was it's highest. If it was as dominant as many people felt it was it would have taken at least top 3 at some point. Despite me not being the biggest reg G fan I believe it helps build skills that other formats just don't make you develop as much so it's still worth playing 100%. It's still fun IMO just not as much as regional dex formats.

The fastest pokemon of reg H is Indeedee with Trick Room! I’ve been using a trick room squad and cleaning tf up

@KindaKaon Ah i see what you mean, yea 90% acc moves can be annoying for sure. Scale shots accuracy is the reason I chose a different team for my last tournament. But I wouldn't say 90% makes or breaks a metagame, is all personal preference tho. But having a more accurate metagame is always good.

Super hot take, not a big fan of Reg H. While Reg H is the format that got me into vgc in my 15 yrs of playing Pokémon, I will say I find Reg G more bearable. Reg H gives u the illusion of free choice, when in reality ur stuck to using counters against that stupid Archaludon & Pelipper combo. Because of the lack of legendaries, a lotta Pokemon don’t really stand a chance against threats like Archaludon, Sneasler, & Ursaluna. At least in Reg G, every Pokemon is super op to the point that it’s balanced.

I have seen that take before so you aren't along. I would have to disagree though. Although mons like sneasler and archaludon are super strong, especially after researching for this video and going over usage stats, archaludon was never number 1 usage. I think 5th or 6th was it's highest. If it was as dominant as many people felt it was it would have taken at least top 3 at some point.
Despite me not being the biggest reg G fan I believe it helps build skills that other formats just don't make you develop as much so it's still worth playing 100%. It's still fun IMO just not as much as regional dex formats.
