    For a hundred years I have been a nikon shooter. In that time I have used a super wide angle lens almost every day, real estate. The list is extensive and includes the amazing 14-24 2.8 nikon and 15-30 tamron lenses. When I went mirrorless with the Z6 I got the 14-30 f4 and it blew all of the other lenses out of the water. Yesterday I did my first shoot with the Lumix 14-28, and it is at least as good if not better. The combination of lens sharpness and computation that makes the fixes distortion is better than anything I have used. I was worried in switching to Lumix full time that I would have issues with super wides. OH and the macro is pretty cool as well. For what I do it is a super power.

    I would love to see a full comparison between the Lumix 14-28mm, and the Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 as I'm really torn between the wider field of view vs the lower f stop. Id love to see how they both compare in video auto focus specificity since I'm mainly shooting video.

    I sold my Sigma 16-28mm for this lens. It is fully weather sealed and has ultra wide angle with 14mm. Yes, it is slower however for wide angle lenses not that important. I am absolutely delighted with the LUMIX 14-28mm.

    I'm new to your channel but I'm enjoying the fact that you talk about the creativity of lenses and when you're in the studio you seem to be talking extemporaneously rather than reading an set of notes (are you?). I have yet to go back through your earlier content to see what you have to say about compact systems cameras as I feel like I'm about to make the leap from a Canon 5D mk2 which I'd like to replace with something lighter. Thank you.

    Thanks for the review of the lens. I preordered the S5II with the 14-28mm lens and I am still waiting for it, maybe as I ordered the S5II as a kit with the lens and its not currently released yet with the lens? Hope it won't take long to get it. I want to make nature videos and need landscape shots and shots of insects and wild plants and I bought a Sigma 105mm DG DN macro for when I can get further back from the subject for macro and some talking head shots, but there are times when I might need to shoot in more narrower spaces and the 14mm wide end of the Panasonic lens is perfect for that.
    The half macro is great when I need to get closer to the subject in more narrower spaces when I don't need 1:1 macro. I can currently only afford two lenses so it seemed like the best option to start with. The widest lens I have used before was the Panasonic 9mm f/1.7 (18mm FF equivalent) on my GH6 so it will be interesting using a wider lens than that.

    Nice video. I've been using the 16-35 for professional architecture work and miss 14mm for certain situations. Ideally I'd like to see a 15-35 f2.8 professional lens for the L mount. I know it would be expensive but worth it for me.

    why doesn't anyone say that the 14-28 has completely black shadows? in shadow, a complete fall into black. in any lighting - blackness in the shadows. This is what I see in the reviews. It is difficult to choose Panasonic or Sigma 16-28

    • @MicroFourNerds

      Great question! Because you generally need to over expose V-log by at least one stop (preferably more) sometimes it’s hard to shoot like that at night. Sometimes for ease I find myself exposing to zero on the meter and shooting Cine D instead. It matches well in editing still and can be more forgiving for noise.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaah! That’s a good point! The reason I didn’t include it is for me, it’s a bit lacking - it’s a lot heavier, the front element is curved so it’s harder for filters, and it’s really quite expensive compared to the Lumix 14-28

      @@MicroFourNerds I spoke to Meike about a month ago or so and they are working on an EF to L-mount lens adapter, similar to the ones for EF to RF (which they already now have made for EF-M, Z and E mount also).
      It should become available within the next 2-3 months or so.
      That means in-line filters will be possible on lenses like that, as long as you have an EF version of it.

      @@MicroFourNerds The 14-24mm F2.8 Sigma is more expensive, Sigma also introduce a much lighter ultrawide zoom for L mount 16-28mm F2.8. I have 14-24mm for my Sony set up but many reviews I watch on TH-cam suggest 16-28mm F2.8 is better than the older 14-24mm f2.8. Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 may be a good alternative. In Australia Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 is about $700 cheaper, it is also lighter, more compact and you can fit in a front filter. 14-24mm has a bulging front element so can't fit a front filter.

    • @MicroFourNerds

      @@MicroFourNerds thanks a bunch for making these videos, they are immensely helpful, even months and years after they are released, becasue lenses have long lives and technique is forever:)
      I've noticed that there's always a lot more FG space / stretching when I take an indoor photo at 12mm on MFT vs something taken at 24 mm on FF. Hence I was wondering whether this is something to expect always, as MFT lenses have wider FLs for thr same Field of view as equivalent FF.

    Hey there, can I have a question about the high resolution mode on the gh6. Obviously the images potentially sharper and less noise, but you find that the high res photos give more dynamic range? Or would you just shoot bracketed for that? I’m curious about jumping into micro 4/3 but unsure 😂

    Thanks for reviewing this lens! It looks like a good one for documentary and photojournalism work, stills and video. My two favourite focal lengths for both are 28mm and 21mm and for really wide or really up close and personal work wider again has its virtues so long as you are careful to avoid placing heads and feet too close to the corners. If Panasonic does a 75mm then that would be the perfect documentary and photojournalism trio - 21mm, 28mm and 75mm.

    Enjoyed the video! I pre-ordered the S5iix, so in the meantime I'm researching what will be my first couple of lenses. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Sigma f2.8 24-70mm DG Art Lens. This Lumix 14-28mm lens could cover me in the ultra-wide range. From there, I could start picking up some prime lenses. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Oh, and I was also looking at the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG Lens. Anyone have thoughts on that one? I like the max aperture of 2.8, but it loses a bit on the widest focal length. Also, it's slightly bigger and heavier. Ahhh, so many lenses...

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So many lenses to choose from! Such a good problem haha, Pav was shooting with the sigma during this shoot and it seems to be a great alternative if the 14mm doesn’t overly appeal to you. I mean 16mm is wide enough for most things! (You can see the difference in the vlogging section when he is holding a camera vs the one I’m holding)
      For primes it really depends on what you shoot. My two faves are the 35 and 85. Absolutely beautiful and different enough to keep in my bag
