St. Louis Blues Sign Kasperi Kapanen To A One-Year 1M Deal| Only Free Agency Move

- The St. Louis Blues made their only move of the day during free agency by signing Kasperi Kapanen who had an awful season last year with the Blues. The market today in free agency was scary as over 1B dollars in contracts were signed. The team that made the biggest move was the Nashville Predators, which doesn't help that they're in the central division with the Blues. While free agency was happening the first game and home opener was announced. The Blues will start the season against the San Jose Sharks in San Jose and will be hosting the Minnesota Wild for their home opener.

I’m personally happy they did nothing there were a lot of bad contracts signed today and those spots should be open for the young guys. Besides next seasons UFA group is so much better than next year.
While that is true- I still don't agree with signing Kappy.
@@LockedOnBlues kappy is easy to move if a prospect is ready mid season and they need a spot. With kappy they won’t lose anything if they need to send him down or trade him. Other wise they would have to move walker or sunny and the blues like having those guys around.
For that salary he is useful, given his skating, ability to kill penalties, etc. Still, not an improvement at all.
Of course we still have no 2C or 1D.
Klingberg and Oliver Kylington on the cheap for bounce year. 34 points between 22-23 season was split. Much better than Blais and Alexandrov or Walker, We cant count on Dvorosky, Dean, or even Bolduc yet.

Kappanen is 1m for 1 year for a team that's probably going to miss again. The blues have plenty of cap space if they decide to bring someone else in. You should be more upset with burning that 2nd round pick to not pay Hayes. Kappanen can be sent to the AHL, this isnt some massive contract with a full NMC.
Johnathan Marchessault would improve the Blues defense......wow, just wow. As for the predators, they're old. They may be good for a couple years. Which conveniently will be while the Blues are bad. All you've done is list off mediocre players that cashed in. The Blues staying out of FA is the correct move for a bubble team.
I wasn't happy throwing away a high draft pick to dump Hayes either. This team isn't going anywhere this year with or without him. So the salary cap space isn't that helpful.
Would you rather have 27 year old Kasperi Kapanen for 1 million or 36 year old Pat Maroon for 1.3 million?

I don't agree with your take, Blues have a limited amount of FA's up this year compared to other teams, and there is internal growth coming as well. Further, currently, we have around the 7th most cap space available, Army has not hamstrung us with any buy-outs or retained salaries. The outlook is good and something is coming, be patient.
The draft picks they made won't be nhl ready for what 2-5 years or indeed never...

Dvorsky is close, Dean and bolduc are ready. Stenburg and Lindstein are going to be close next year. Got to have holes open for those guys. Don’t want to sign guys that will block those guys next year.
I get that you live in Philly but news is like world wide now so there's no reason for you not to know what most fans in STL know. Doug said he wasn't gonna do shit on day 1. Most fans have also knows for a while they we were not going to be competitive again until probably 26 or 27. We're not going to tank because washing the stank of a loser off is harder than people think. We're trying to stay competitive so that the guys have something to play for while we wait for our time frame. Nothing matters until then. Kapanen is fine, he's a great PK and defensive player with speed.

but while he's still the GM for two seasons he does have an obligation to make the team successful
