It somehow never occurred to me that the "It's A Fine Day" voice was that of Kirsty Hawkshaw, who I have in my head mainly as a vocalist that often collaborates with Hybrid. The hours are countless indeed.
I worked in a 24 hour Nightclub in Atlanta and one night the DJ played Chicanes Saltwater with the Accepella of Fine Day over top and it was the greatest mashup I've ever heard.
Back when Atlanta was the most insane party city in the country. The 90's in Atlanta were insane. So much fun. Spent many a fine days and nights at the Nomenclature Museum. Good times. I lived 2 blocks from piedmont park.
It’s a Fine Day is THE dance anthem that continues to be shared with every generation in so many ways. I remember the first time I played it at age 18 at a club and instantly new this song was special. I am 51 now and still get goose bumps when I hear it sampled or remixed. Thank you for producing a song that continues to make people smile and forget about the problems in our world.
Kristy, I say this with zero hyperbole, you changed my life. Discovering your voice on Halcyon, and later the rave scene, made finishing school and many other personal trials so much easier. I'm a better person for your influence.
Wow, the part when she mentioned that she sang to this little boy, it really hit me at the core, all the lads at the rave, we were all this little boy at one point in life and we all needed to hear that it’s going to be a fine day tomorrow
Oh wow, sometimes the algorithm does good things. I was picked upon and bullied a lot in my youth and when I heard your beautiful and innocent voice in this song, back when I was 13/14 years old with your positive lyrics, it literally kept me going. Even to this day, I still get a lump in my stomach and a jump in my heart when I hear your voice. Thank you so much!
It's one of those seminal tracks, without equal. I wore my tape out playing that track. I can still feel how I felt when I first heard it. To me it defined an era that I'm proud to have lived through. Timeless.
Fine day and the sun rising by beloved are 2 tracks from my early rave days i still listen to regularly.. Fine day is such an uplifting mood changing piece of music, it should be prescribed by the NHS.
This women has done so many amazing vocals over the years. Amazing voice. Just Be with Tiesto, face to face the joy by seba. So many to mention. Live Kirsty’s vocals.
When I first heard this song in my childhood times, that's where dance music as a whole lifted me out of the everyday radio repeats. At that point I went underground and discovered dance music scene as I got older and that's where I will remain till I'm dead. Truley a classic and favorite.
This track, The Shaman “move any mountain” everything the Orb put out combined with 808 State PWOG and old Throbbing Gristle turned Psychic TV defined my teenage years. Not to mention countless others. All my love. Thank you!
I hope Kirsty knows that Opus III ie heard and beloved in Brazil. Their sound changed my life, completly. Before them, I didn't know about Electronic Music. After, Electronic Music started to fill my soul. I'll never forget Opus III. Thanks DJ Mag for bringing the story of this true Dance anthem!
I love this classic, I didn't know her name, I was surprised to find her to be the daughter of the master of library music and rare grooves Alan Hawkshaw, a true legend. Nice interview, Kirsty! 1love from Brazil
It must have been very cool being Kirsty as a kid with everyone saying "Did you watch Grange Hill last night?" and her saying "My dad wrote the theme tune". He did 'Countdown' as well, and millions of other great things.
She's so right about the dance scene being healing. Pretty music, pretty lights, not a care in the world, there with all your friends... boy I miss those days, and those friends! Movin' Up … ain't nobody gonna hold me i'm gonna be all that i can be i'll take my problems to the dance floor let the music make my spirit soar… Never happier than during my party days. You really do take your problems to the dance floor-- and dance the HELL out of them!
Ah, 1992, that was quite a year! I was 15 at the time and was at a point in my life where I had really started to absorb the different tunes that were around, "It's a fine day" being one of the standout ones. Great times!
I’ve been feeling nostalgic and thinking of all those 90’s late night raves and this song. It’s been playing on repeat the past few days. Im glad I ran across this.
I really love this series. It is a bite of musical history with lots of memories and emotional link for the people like me that grow up listening to this music.
I am still listening to "Its a fine day" and "Halcyon" at least 3 times a week as it is on my "work" playlist and has been for the last 25 years. The beats and her calm beautiful voice just helps me concentrate and get in the zone. Absolutely one of my favorit dance tracks ever
This woman I will always consider the original female vocalist of electronic music her voice is timeless thank you Kirsty for making my childhood much happier quality music lives forever.
Hi Kirsty , I've always loved this song , thank you . And.......I'm a massive fan of your dad , I have his book and listen to his music regularly . The man is a legend .
This song was most popular playlist on MTV music channel in the spring of 1992 and it is such a uplifting song that always brightens up my day and it still a great dance tune over 3 decades later. Thank you Kirsty for this classic tune with your angelic voice that always brings back the most memorable times. 💯🙂👏
“SPIRITUAL EPIPHANY” yesssssss that is the true essence of the old school raves. Yes 🙌 raves in SoCal was where my spiritual journey began…. We’re so lucky to have experienced those days ❤❤❤
Thanks for making this. The name Kirsty Hawkshaw was a name I always heard as a kid thanks to this song, but never knew a single thing about her. Really nice to finally make the connection and tie up that part of my childhood :) All the way from South Africa :)
Ed Solo... That's a name i haven't seen in a long time. Like since late 90's, early 2000's. Totally disappeared from my radar along with people like Paul Reset from Nerve. Good to see DJ's from those crazy dnb times still doing their thing.
This song is (still) so subversive, well produced and powerful even without her vocals. Its like a rainstorm on the dance floor! It's literally thunderous! Incredible.
I still love and listen to this song to this day! There are a few dance records that have stood the test of time: 3AM Eternal (The KLF), Good Life (Inner City), Gipsy Woman (Crystal Waters), (I Wanna Give You) Devotion (Nomad), Lola's Theme (The Shapeshifters) and... THIS! What a truly amazing track!
How I loved the Opus III version in 1992. When I saw Kirsty in the video I freaked out! ... Her look was SO refreshing for 1992 when things were so boring after the electric 80s. She had THE best look! ***** Thanks for this video!
Geesh! I knew there was a reason I'd click on this one. Never heard the dance track, but I started listening to her father Alan Hawkshaw's music back in 2020!

Kirsty is one of the most incredible female singers. Her voice is so delicate and ethereal but emotive. And she is such a sweetheart person (collaborated with her on several songs).
This was the track that turned me onto dance music, I heard it on a train traveling North through the Midlands and it expanded my mind, without chemical enhancement. Thank you Kirsty!!
The Halcyon and On version by Orbital is one of the most formative songs I listened to in my life. Captures my experiences working in Vietnam perfectly.
Its one of my favorite vocals of any track. Really unique style in many ways. One of the great tracks from the early electronic music era that I still love to this day.
KIRSTY IS A GODDESS!!!! Best voice ever...I still have OPUS III on cassettes...when I first saw the video...I said to myself "What magic is this?" have not stopped listening to Rave/Trance/Electronica/EDM...whatever the newest and evolving label or iteration it's called these days ever since then.
OH MY GOD IT'S YOU!!!! BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, BEAUTIFUL SONG, I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO YOUR MUSIC SINCE 1992, I HAVE YOUR OPUS III CASSETTE, WOW!!!!! I THANK LIFE FOR BEING ABLE TO LISTEN TO YOU, WHAT A HAPPINESS TO SEE YOU NOW, MY NAME IS ALBERTO AND RECEIVE BROTHERLY GREETINGS FROM MEXICO, IF YOU GIVE A CONCERT HERE, PLEASE I WOULD LIKE A PHOTO WITH YOU, IT WOULD BE SOMETHING HUGE FOR MY SOUL, ♥️ THANK YOU!!!! FOR!!!! EXISTING!!!!!
It was the slow arch of the rave scene in the Midwest of Ohio and the movie Hackers was being released in theaters. That movie and soundtrack solidified my love of The Scene then....I think I saw that movie more than 20 times in the theater.... And when I worked at a video store and it was released on VHS/DVD then, I watched it another 20 times!! It's great seeing these stories of that era...brings a huge smile to my face and reminds me of why I love this music and all that it brought together!! This song was the essence of P.L.U.R. then!! Thank you!
This song was an icon for the rave scene in the 90's. The hypnotic vocals and melodies just made you dance the night away. This is why music is a medicine to all.
This is the best series of Videos on TH-cam, please keep them coming. Dance music from the 90's and early 2000's was so good. Would love if you could find and interview Dominique Atkins from Grace. Not Over Yet was one of the best dance tracks from this era and still sounds fresh today.

What a bloody icon kirsty Hawkshaw is. Such a sweetheart.
I just hope she got enough money out of this.
She is an icon for sure 👍
Between this and "Halcyon" and all the remixes throughout the years, I have no idea how many hours of my life I have spent listening.
It somehow never occurred to me that the "It's A Fine Day" voice was that of Kirsty Hawkshaw, who I have in my head mainly as a vocalist that often collaborates with Hybrid. The hours are countless indeed.

Good call. Especially due to the issues with the original Chant No. 1 sample.

This song was the essence of P.L.U.R. then!!
Thank you!
Thank you Opus III and Kirsty for this brilliant track! Thank you DJMag as always for this great inspiring series 🌟🌟🌟
Our pleasure!
What a remarkable woman. Well done her for being open and raw and and always staying true to what she believes in!
This song was an icon for the rave scene in the 90's. The hypnotic vocals and melodies just made you dance the night away. This is why music is a medicine to all.
OMG, Halcyon was such a beautiful song! Halcyon and Hackers (the movie) encapsulates the best times of my teen years 😎
It's amazing how this song change the lives of so many! Mine included!
This is the best series of Videos on TH-cam, please keep them coming. Dance music from the 90's and early 2000's was so good. Would love if you could find and interview Dominique Atkins from Grace. Not Over Yet was one of the best dance tracks from this era and still sounds fresh today.
Pure uplifting magic 🙏😌
