He acts as if he was always a kid that was bullied and alone during his teenage years when he was actually in many bands, played the drums and had long hair. His persona is an act, a character, for his stand up.
He's kind of a blend of Lee Mack, Sean Lock and Ross Noble + his own unique style, quips and qwerks. Then his stand up has the Billy Connolly-esque seamless storytelling where there is not always a defined set-up -> punchline. AND THEN the total willingness to break character/4th wall on a routine is amazing. This is all IMO, but what a phenomenal comedian. Also sidenote, there's not many comedians I've seen where the comments are filled with ladies going "huehuehue yeahhh , keep talking pretty boy "👁👄👁
