Does your Vizsla do this? Rugby being crazy as usual...

  • Here is our 6 month old Vizsla puppy, Rugby, having one of his crazy fits. This happens once or twice a day, depending on how much energy he has built up. It is only exacerbated by the fact that he hates cameras! It doesn't seem to matter if he has had lots of exercise or not, they are just wild (but fun!).

    It's funny when you see a video of a Vizsla going mental and everyone assumes that they just need exercise. My Viz can get a run or a few our walking/running about in a field, come back and run around our house like a manic. Vizslas can be either mental and chatty or lazy couch potatoes at any give time lol.
    THAT'S WHY I LOVE THEM! :D

      I do work outs in the house like sprints and push ups and my Vizsla will run in circles.

    This video makes me feel at ease because my Vizsla is a wild child - but I absolutely love it because it's all in fun nature. It keeps you on your toes mentally and physically.

    People were always telling me I needed to exercise my V when he acted like this before he turned about 2 years old. "Dude, we went for a 3 mile run this morning and a walk through a woods for like an hour." Batteries just never died!

      Ya V's are nuts and can bet either mad chill or like yours work them for HOURS and still wound up (think they are sleep deprived and don't know how to give in). Our first was more laid back in general and a great couch buddy, our 2nd she was a handful who didn't know how to give in unitl a couple years old. She's great now aside from her explosive bursts at the turkey, deer or if the squirrels come to our windows taunting her. Surprised she hasn't blasted through one of them by now lol! Her hunt drive is through the roof too, take her out to potty and all she wants to do is track scents -_- That's fine and dandy aside from when it's -20* outside with a howling wind and snow blowing :P

    I'm a first-time Vizsla owner (Laszlo is just shy of 11 weeks now), and the one thing I've noticed is that he gets spazzy like this when he's over-tired. As soon as I get him to his crate, he passes right out!

    • @kovilac81
      @kovilac81 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      absolutely agree!! This was the biggest lesson learned in the first weeks with our vizsla: this is not a sign of under-excercise but on the contrary when getting over-exhausted. Find them a quiet corner, calm them down and they will sleep within a minute.

    Don't worry, we have 4 acres here on the water, he gets plenty of exercise! He often goes outside and it charges him right up and when he comes in the house after running around outside, he flies through the whole house and bounces off the couch at full speed. He's quite a character.

    If you had carpeting he would be zooming all over the house! He can't get any traction on the tile floor. And I agree, it's like their last hurrah before they crash for the night. My V doesn't bark like that, but she loves to zoom!

    Our vizsla Georgia does this occasionally but we exercise her for at least 45 minutes a day and try not to leave her on her own for too long, they are velcro dogs and need lots of human contact or they develop seperation angsiety (not sure if I've spelt that right?). Georgia likes to be a bit bitey if we leave her too long, and she is a bit destructive if she gets bored! Plenty of exercise and plenty of mental stimulation needed for this breed. Great dogs to have as pets though and we love her.

    Mine can get in her wild modes at times but does not bark like that unless she’s barking at the cat or someone at the front door. If you are not letting him free run, you need to find a place where he can do that. This breed loves to run hard, but they will not run away. Our girl stays close to us when she’s off leash and running wild

    We had a vizsla that died when she was 12. Her name was Annie. We then adopted a six year old male from some friends. His name is Indy...and he's just as crazy. Sometimes, just looking at him and saying "What?" would make him do this same thing...lol. He pulls me three blocks out and back on my bike every night. Not a workout for me, but a great one for him. He runs full tilt and only stops when he gets back to our drive and walks to the water bucket. Love V's.

    Yes, if you have a very large yard. I use a "chuck it" and my V is tired in about 15 minutes. I will do this twice a day on days that I don't have much time. Another great exercise if you don't like to run is an off leash hike for 30-45 minutes. But your V must be one that doesn't run away (most don't) and has been trained to come when called. Also make sure there are no cars near the hiking area.

    Our vizsla is also very calm as well, we don't do treats but when he starts making a fuss we generally see that as a signal for a time for a bit of training; retrieval work with the Labradors etc. where they all sit. In one room and I hide a dummy somewhere else in the house, on the word they go and find it. (The vizsla is winning on all but the raised hiding places where the blind lab is winning).
