This band alongside Blind Guardian, Stratovarius and Helloween were my first exposition to power metal when I was a pre-teen/teen. To this day I still listen to them, rhapsody of fire has a lot of long and epic songs. Theirs songs are usually stories/tales with an epic tone (vintage power metal stuff) and they've featured people such as Christopher Lee in some of their songs. Wasn't the case for this one but some of their songs start with narration that leads to the song. Power metal is my favorite genre to this day. Couple years later, I was getting started in the japanese music rabbit hole and found great power metal bands there as well such as Galneryus and Light Bringer.
Hi DH, thanks for the great react and review. Yes, it is an Italian symphonic power metal band and at that time it was also called Symphonic Epic Hollywood Metal. I remember that they were one of the few bands that used backing tracks of choirs and orchestras to make it sound more epic, and were extremely criticized for it at that time, whereas nowadays it's not a problem to use such backing tracks. Rhapsody, as they were called at that time, was one of the bands that brought me to metal because I loved the fantasy style and the stories that were told with their albums. It was really something special at that time.
Yup . don't ask me why but in Spain and Italy mark the w on sword a lot, then you pronounce it right and they look at you like if you're a freak. 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Nice! Rhapsody review!! Got into them by their second album, "Symphony of Enchanted Lands", from which Emerald Sword comes from. It actually has an intro, but it is a separate track (the 1st one, Emeral Sword is the 2nd). Got all of their stuff from 1997 to 2002... Then life happened and it was difficult for me to keep up with them. Nowadays, I still know the lyrics by heart, even though I not that into them anymore. That's how much I've listened to their albums back then. Great reaction and a fair and just scoring, as expected DH! Even though everything after "Merci beaucoup Montréal" was a lead to another song. 😅 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
RHAPSODY is Power Metal... But for many many of us it´s outstanding. I was a metal fan since 1985 but I was growing tired from the bands like Twisted Sister, Black Sabath, Iron Maiden, Manowar (Metallica was never for me).. Then someone gave me a tape with some Helloween songs (future world, Halloween, Dr. Stein, etc), but I wanted more bands similar, then found RHAPSODY and my life changed for better.. It´s been 23 a ride since then, now I know many many many more power metal bands and even Folk Metal got into me years later (Korpiklaani, Turisas, Finntroll, etc), but still the original RHAPSDOY and RHAPSDOY OF FIRE is on my top 2 every day listening on my Walkman... Your taste in music differs vastly from mine (it´s my third time seeing your videos)
Tambien diría que es la banda mas importante del power metal sinfonico; con clasicos como Land of immortals, Dawn of victory, The village of dwarves, Rain of a thousand flames, Knightrider of doom, March of the swordmaster, Lamento eroico, Wisdom of the kings, Eternal glory, Beyond the gates of infinity, Wings of destiny, The dark tower of abyss, Symphony of the enchanted lands, etc...
As someone who likes both Power metal, and Symphonic metal bands, I thought this was pretty good. I always put off listening to these guys, since it looks like many of their albums seem to be concept stuff. I'll probably get around to listening to them at some point. 😅
And even if many here think that the sound quality of the recording is not the best and the album version is better, I just prefer live videos. And especially when it comes to introduce a band, I also want to show the band and not just a cover.
Their stuff is highly produced, and sounds great on their albums, it's never really translated well to live performances. Especially if you're a new listener.
Rhapsody is too cheesy for me. Stratovarius is where it's at for me. Not too power metal just enough prog and not too cheesy. Dungeons and dragons lyrics don't so it for me.
I totally agree with you. This is the most common, even canonical power metal, and despite the fact that the guys are certainly good at what they do, there is no zest and individuality, let alone a brain explosion. There are many such groups and it is difficult to distinguish them from each other.

Leone was lead singer of Rhapsody, Shaman and now Angra.

i hate to say it but this is one case where the studio version is the better one

This recording is not the best. Probably should have done the studio version.
Good

Rhapsody and Blind Guardian were the pioneer of thd genre. A lot of PM bands today are just copycats
