I am going to be starting a cricket farm in two weeks. Well I am getting everything ready to get my crickets in a week or two. I love your videos and they have taught me a lot I have raised crickets before for reptiles on a small scale now I want to do it on a big scale but I think you're right about starting small even with some experience thank you for your content and I hope to see more.

Hi Robert! Thanks so much for watching. What are you going to be raising them for?!

I live in Hannibal Missouri and it's not a big city but I would like to raise them for human consumption. I don't know what license or anything else I will need yet. I have been asking people around here if they would try cricket powder, and I have had a lot of people surprisingly say yes.

I owned the bait shop for about 2 years and sold a lot of crickets to fishermen and people with animals that eat them. So that may be a market I could start with.

I raised crickets through the winter time so that I wouldn't have to have them delivered. And I thought it was so much fun.

The ice fishing tent was a good idea. I thought indoor grow tents would work too but they're not insulated.

Yes! I am always looking for alternative ideas for folks on a smaller scale. Not something I've tried, but something that might work.

You should use solar it's the best to save your money. Uses Delta force 2 with two 2x solar panels around 500 watts pull in.

Yes! That’s something I would love to convert to in the future.

    Hii
    Hope u are good .
    Just a quick question.
If i put vermiculite at the bottom of me cricket bucket as a substrate will they lay their eggs in the vermiculite instead of the bowl with sand ?

Hi! They might lay some of them in the vermiculite. As long as you have enough housing, you don’t need to put a substrate at the bottom of your bins. Keep an eye on them and see if you see them climbing on the substrate and exhibiting laying behavior (females sticking ovipositor into it and doing a little wiggle)

Yeah, I think I cooked a large portion of my first batch with a plant heating mat...
Just switched to a single ceramic bulb and will see how this goes overnight. Yes, I'm kinda using the laundry room and though the heat is concentrated, I really like the side effect of having a nice warm room to always hang out in. I don't know what my wife will think of the jump in utility bill so I'm wonder what other plugs in the house I can try to cut out to compensate.

Aww shoot.. so yeah, it still gets pretty cold at night so even though it was 83 degrees last night and then I saw a closer 87 this morning and thought I was good. But it gets warmer during the day and so I think I may have cooked these eggs at 102..
      Oh well, try again!

It’s a learning experience. There definitely is a “too hot”

Does it stay 87 degrees in the castle even in the winter?

Are you actively seeking new growers for your network? I'm getting involved, learning and may go large. Colorado.

Hi! Very cool. Glad to hear you're jumping in. Currently, we are only building our grower network in Iowa. Logistically, anything out of state doesn't make sense right now. If that changes, I will definitely let you know!

Could I use reptile heat mats? I have one cricket tank for my lizards.

How many eggs does a cricket lay a day?

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Each female lays 5-10 eggs per day once they're of breeding age!
