    Best demo ever!! The fact that you showed it with reverb and delay in the effects loop too was just what I wanted to hear. Thanks!

    This guy's reviews are awesome because:
    1) He's not afraid to tell the truth about stuff, even if it's not that great
    2)Demo's stuff in the context of how a buyer would actually use it.
    Keep it up!!!!!

    The amp certainly has that British sound. I like the small package and the 0.3 watt feature for when you need to keep the volume down.

    I just bought one and fully recommend it. It's an absolute killer amp without the boutique price tag. This probably due to the pcb. PHIL did a great review as usual but he didn't show the clean tone capacity of the fist channel. It's not all crunch. However it's not going to be as clean as a blues junior deluxe or fender reverb for example. But I already own one of those so my cleans are covered. I'm putting it through its paces this week with my band but so far it's one of the best musical purchases I have made. Thanks phil.

  • @BrandOdyssey
    @BrandOdyssey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You do lose so e treble clarity with the power soak but can compensate by the great presence control which is a sort of master volume for the high ends. In any case the 0.3 watts is for home use so it's a practice feature rather than a recording or performing feature.

  • @SanAndFe
    @SanAndFe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great sounding amp. I get what you mean about the Marshall thing, it sounds more Marshall than Marshall. I had the JCM2000 DSL401 and that thing was a beast, but at low volumes it tended to sound a bit muddy. The Victory, in low power mode, doesn't seem to suffer as much sound wise.
    Great review Phil. 🤘🏻

  • @1961jscofield

    • @zelon1983
      @zelon1983 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own this amp. It's true the distortion can be a bit fizzy on higher gain settings. I play through a 65 Creamback, so don't think it's the speaker. It can be desirable feature in a live situation. It's not that unpleasant, when you're not sitting at the same level as the speaker. When I keep the gain knob before 12-1 o'clock it's fine. If I need more gain, I just push it with BB preamp which smooths things out a bit. I think this type of distortion is something a lot of marshalls do. This amp has a beautiful low gain to mild crunch sound on channel I. Reminds me of the plexi channel on the Friedman Smallbox.

    I'd love to see your take on a Chapman ML-2, if you can get your hands on one. Especially with the £ dropping, I'd love to see one go head-to-head with a PRS SE245 and maybe an ESP LTD ec401 VF (the one with PAFs)... I wager any of 'em would sound great through your shiny new Sheriff or you Mark V:25.

    Hey Phillip, I'd really appreciate if you could compare the Victory V30 to the Mark 5 25. I know spec and style wise they're quite different, but the price range and user base I think are very similar. basically I could pick either one up for around a grand and they both supposedly do a great clean and great dirty. sure the victory doesn't have as many features but I NEED to know if the victory just has more "magic"

  • @JaxMusicSupply

      low end,cheap,not that good sounding ,low build quality.
      but they sell well to the beginner that doesn't know better
      or doesn't wait until he/she has enough money for a decent amp.

    • @JaxMusicSupply
      @JaxMusicSupply 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I had the older Valvetronix and found they were pretty nice. The effects were not much but I found the amp simulators (the Vox ones especially) were nice. The Dumble simulators were good too. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. I'm never going to pay $1000 for an amp head.

  • @MrJLobster
    @MrJLobster 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great Phillip! Is it possible to get a nice Band cutting Clean tone out the Sherrif 22?Can we switch clean/ dirty between the two modes or would there be a big volume jump?

    • @dagalord
      @dagalord 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got exactly the same doubt, If the Sheriff 22 is loud enough for playing clean in a band rehearsal or medium gig, and the same doubt in distorsion.

  • @bobisadrummer
    @bobisadrummer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So can't you blend the two inputs like a 4 input amp? That's a bummer. I was hoping to get a plexish amp at a reasonable price.

  • @RackhirTheRed
    @RackhirTheRed 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fantastic look at the amp and yes, I know what you mean about the sound in your head vs the sound you actually get. :)
    The only problem I have is that there are so many great amps coming out now that's it's hard to justify picking one over another.
    Yes I'd love to have a new Victory amp,but do I want it more than I want a Fender Bassbreaker 15?
    Then again the Marshall Code is so interesting...but I also can't forget about the Huges & Kettner Deluxe 20.
    And I already have a bunch of amps ranging from Fender ( OK...more Fenders than any one man should have I admit) to Marshall to Vox and a couple in between. It wouldn't be so bad if I could bring myself to sell a couple off to get a new one but I just can't do it.
    I don't need a new amp I need an intervention. But...but...how can I resist the siren song coming from that Supro Black Magick?

    I know in the vid you said the volumes are just gain essentially but, can you A/B the two inputs to get essentially a two channel sound? I guess what I'm getting at is, is there a large volume shift with one channel cranked. Like getting dirt sounds from an ac30 or the Bassbreaker 45.

    • @PhillipMcKnight
      @PhillipMcKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, If you use a A/B nox one of the inputs overrides the other.

    When you think of Marshall you think of beautiful full, clear rocking. When you plug one in, you get hard mid range and cutting sound...

    • @JerodimusPrime
      @JerodimusPrime 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's cause very few of us are lucky enough to get to dime a Plexi or JCM800 in a stadium. Those amps are way too loud for the average gig situation. That's why other Marshall sounding amps usually sound better and more Marshall sounding, they've just taken that Marshall sound and made it attainable at lower volume, without having to almost blow up your amp.

    • @tjnugent62
      @tjnugent62 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree about your statement that most people don't ever get to fire up a Marshall to get the power tube distortion and its sweet spot. The big guys who only do huge gigs don't worry about that., but guys like Peter Stroud sounds amazing using two 15 watt 65amps heads and single 12" cabs. The power of the PA...

      yeah PAs are the big game changer :)

    • @tjnugent62
      @tjnugent62 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Monitors are at the heart of it all. Everywhere I play now, has a system and a decent monitor system at the venue. Back in the day, you would drag a big PA that was a mish mash of whatever and crank your guitar to be heard.. The sound man always told you to turn down... You would turn down and by the end of the gig everyone would edge up way past the start of the gig... Good times... Ha!

    • @tjnugent62
      @tjnugent62 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to play at lower levels.. It is more polite lol and mostly because my ears are shot.. I have tinnitus and loss of hearing. If I stand next to a drummer and he hits a crash near me. I nearly jump out of my skin. it is painful. So odd to not be able to stand loud anymore. All part of getting older and having big fun in younger days.

    I like it, sounds good, however I don't think it sounds $1050.00 good. There's a loooong list of amps under a grand I'd buy before the victory. If you want Marshall tone, you can get an actual marshall for way less than the Victory and the feature set isn't all that great on the Victory as well. Not being able to footswitch the effects loop is a real bummer. It would also be nice to be able to blend the two channels together like an early plexi. Just my two cents.

    I know a couple of folks already asked, but I try it again:
    Did you kept this one and do you like the bd1 more? I do test the bd1 currently but considering switching to the sheriff because the bd is a little bit dark to me and I would prefer the 3band eq. But I do have concerns because of the 0.3w in comparison to the 2w of the bd. The 2w are perfect for home use and I worry that 0.3w is too quiet to get decent tone out of a 212...what do you think?

    Hi friends, to all sheriff 22 users, is the amp loud enough for club gigs without miking the amp??? Thank you!

      I messed up a couple of the features because I was trying to do to much at the same time. So I pulled it down finished the other vid then put this one back.

    Why didn't you use an over drive pedal to see if it could do metal and brown sound?

      Isn't the brown sound everything on 10 and no pedals?

    The "more Marshall than Marshall" comment isn't really that weird at all, particularly if it's in context of latter-day Marshalls, which are still great amps but have strayed somewhat from what longtime fans/players have come to expect. It's the reason I've happily switched to Orange.

    This is a brand I've never heard of

    YOU CAN USE BOTH CHANNELS AT ONCE LIKE PEOPLE USE TO DO ON THE OLD MARSHALL PLEXI AMPS BY JUMPING THE IMPUTS

    • @PhillipMcKnight
      @PhillipMcKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can not on this amp.

    • @MB-yw3pv
      @MB-yw3pv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      CAN YOU ONLY DO IT ON THE 44 WATT VERSION? YOU DONT JUMP THE IMPUTS ON THE VICTORY, THERE IS A WAY TO DO IT WITH THE FOOTSWITCH, CHECK OUT RABEA'S VIDEO ON ROB CHAPMANS CHANNEL FROM THE LAST WINTER NAMM SHOW, RABEA SHOWS HOW TO DO IT, IT MIGHT JUST BE ON THE 44W HEAD BUT IM GOING TO CHECK IT OUT NOW TO MAKE SURE

      @MB-yw3pv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK I JUST WATCHED THE VIDEO, ITS ON THE ANDERTONS CHANNEL, HE WAS PLUGGED INTO THE 44W BUT HE SAID THE 2 AMPS WERE THE SAME, YOU MAY HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING IT CAUSE TO DO IT YOU PLUG THE FOOTSWITCH INTO VOLUME 1 AND THE GUITAR INTO VOLUME 2, TO SWITCH CHANNELS HE SAID YOU JUST PLUG INTO THE CHANNEL YOU WANT, CHECK OUT THE VIDEO, HE SAYS IT RIGHT IN THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO BUT I STILL COULD BE WRONG
