Thank you Lou for this great video. Even though it was commissioned for Eisenhower in October 1951when he was still a General, they probably weren't aware that he would decide to leave the service in early 1952 to run for President . It was nice they conveyed this car to President Eisenhower in appreciation of his service for personal use, probably for when he was staying at his Gettysburg home. This after it being displayed at the Paris car show in 1953. I have two other Eisenhower limousines I will email you information about for possible future videos. The official White House limousine, a 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan stretch bubble top and a 1955 Crown Imperial Derham sunroof special. Both in museums.

3/2023......Wow! This car inspired me to replicate it in FOAM rubber. I began my furniture building and Art career, by creating a "soft sculpture" chair, based on this car. Of course I shortened it to only include the front end, & front windshield. To make it into a chair,....which resembled a throne of sorts, the engine hood (area) was removable, because that is where a person could sit. My creation was 100% foam rubber,....no wood understructure. It is almost the exact scale of a real car. All the details, bumpers, wheels, (chrome parts), are also foam rubber. And the finished chair/sculpture is the color of raw foam rubber which is kind like the color of cheese,....an off-white,..pale yellow. I built it in 1975, and it was used secure my BFA in Fine Arts, at Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. Foam rubber ages, and the color changes from oxidation, (exposure to air). It wasn't meant to last 20 years,....It looked the best for about 10 years. Eventually it deteriorated,....crumbled into (crumbly bits) and had to be thrown out. As a European I'll say that for me that is an American car! It comes from a time when the USA was, I think, rather more different from Europe than it is today with regard to car design. It is a glorious thing to behold.

Lou, 'those points' on the front bumper as you called them are referred to as Dagmars derived from the notable physical attributes of 1950's 'well endowed' actress Dagmar who was known for low-cut gowns and conical bra cups. It's said she found the tribute amusing.
Holy smokes... this is like out of this world. Shiny! This is great car to store groceries in the trunk... roomy! The interior... I like how it's full of seats (I like being around friends and family)... and President Eisenhower sat in this limo... it's a piece of history. Cigarette lighter?!? Someone has has to roll the windows or the smell would ruin this beauty. Have luck in winter time... hahaha! Interesting how the hood reveals it's objects for it to run the car altogether. Engine is good, exhaust is great. Also, for the other cars, it's great for classic enthusiasts to take pictures or film it. Nice how the bar is a classic boat... Klairmont (Clairmont) really is a classy area! Great video 100/10, John. :) Happy New Year to you, your family and everybody!
I had a school teacher, in the mid 60s with 5 kids and she drove a 52 Cadillac limo, big cars. Eisenhower liked Cadillacs , he rode in a new Eldorado when he was sworn in as President
Hey you all. I’m a big limo fan. Of course I love all the genres of vehicles, but the limo is just soooo luxury and comfort. This Caddy is obviously original and can’t imagine what it would cost to restore. I did notice on the closeups the chrome pitting, the bubbles along the roof line and other pieces like kick panels warped from years of humidity changes. I guess that’s not bad patina for such an old original car. A couple questions. Do presidential vehicles get sold or are they usually moth balled into storage? Is it possible this car had several owners to have that many miles on it? The yank you for the great display.
Hey Marty Martian, I'd think Presidential cars get special treatment and are in collectors or Museum hands, however I could be wrong. I have that limousine in 1/43 scale , that i bought at a hobby shop over twenty years ago , the guy told me that it was President Eisenhower's limousine ., It says Cadillac Series 75 1950 on the bottom of this car , made in France . It is now missing the left tail light lens , and right rear tire , over the years of it being in moves , and such doesn't have the continental kit on it though .

Lou, you said this car has a vinyl top??? I would assume it is leather not vinyl?? Yes? No? BTW, i have never seen a lock on the reflector push button for the tail light gas filler access!!! None of my 54 Caddys have one!!! I also think that those screws on the jump seat backs aren’t original?? Doesn’t look very finished with screw heads showing. This car would be magnificent if it were properly restored!! The lightly pitted chrome inside would make a huge difference if re chromed. I realize it would cost a fortune to do a full restoration but doing the smaller things would make a huge difference in a car like this that deserves it!

Davidpar2: I just saw this video and your comment. You are incorrect in your data, sir. Although not yet standard, power steering was in fact introduced by Cadillac in 1952 and most cars *were* equipped with the power steering option. You can see the power steering pump and reservoir at 12:14 and again at 14:05 when they start the engine. One thing that was NOT available in 1952 was Air conditioning from the factory. Although Cadillac had a few (very few) pre-WWII 1941 and 1942 Cadillacs with Air conditioning, they were experimental vehicles and very low production. They were sent to Bishop and Babcock in Cleveland Ohio to be added after production. Cadillac did not reintroduce Air conditioning until 1953: and it was also available on Ninety Eight Oldsmobiles and Buick Roadmasters. I would have to speculate that due to this being sent to Durham Coach builders to be stretched and equipped for President Eisenhower, that Air conditioning was added after factory production. I once read that President’s wife Mamie Eisenhower had a dress ruined from condensation dripping from the roof A/C outlets on an early 50’s Cadillac limousine. I would have to guess that this was the car!

The first car to have early air-conditioning, also called "refrigeration" was a 1941 Packard. General George Patton had the use of one. He died from injuries sustained in an accident in a Cadillac limousine.
"Sir was this comment or a presentation"? Granted you do have a considerable amount of knowledge when comes to A/C systems in classic cars. Not to insult but have you ever heard the term "less is more"?
Lou -- great vid, thanks. The coachbuilder that stretched and modified it was Derham (not Durham) in Rosemont, PA. Enos Derham actually kept the business afloat until the 1970's.
Hi Mark Drukenbrod, The title is correctly updated to "Derham". Thank you for educating me on that. Glad you enjoyed this video, and please take your time on the Channel and I hope you see many more cars you'll enjoy, Lou
Not really sure if this was "streched." It looks like the standard Series 75 long-wheelbase factory-built car, heavily modified by Derham. I understand Derham also modified 60 Special Cadillacs, and some very pretty Packard Patrician sedans.
"Formal Sedans" per the factory, were Series 75 long wheelbase cars with extra fold-out rear seats but without the glass partition/division and the traditional black leather driver's seat.
The set-up looks perfect for International tourism that caters to Car Clubs wanting to get steeped in Americana for what the Industry could do to meet the changing needs of American families for transportation that included the basic same Sedans from the show rooms that were made into a Taxi . My mid 1970's Honda Civic had a list of shortfalls for the upper State cold weather and a fuel tank size not designed for the long highway drives with just an 8 gallon limit. Even today....the GREEN cars used for a Taxi in my City are usually the 5 passenger 4 doors that have a small trunk opening and no room for luggage where people use the Airport Limos or Mini-vans that are the Accessible types Taxi . The only thing missing is a small Roof-top wooden deck patio for about 15 people to get some Sun on a nice warm day or catch the twilight canopy of dotted Stars for that Convertible feel at dusk in the car-like padded bench much like a 64 T-bird back seat . Plus the wet-bar for pre-paid drink by Tickets to know how many to stock in a cooler.
Hey Randall Frank, You're right. I would have liked to have the car outside for a full side view, however.....the temperature outside in IL was -5 degrees this day, so we're going to stay cozy inside. Lou
@@loucostabile I don't think it was bulletproof. Even JFK's 1961 Lincoln stretch convertible didn't have bulletproof windows. They made it bulletproof for LBJ after the assassination. That would be a good car for a future video visit. It is in the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan.
All thru the 50's most American cars had gas fillers fitted in the rear.ie.behind tail lights, license plates. They were eventually done away with because of safety factors being rear end collisions.Cadillac also gave IKE the first Eldorado convertible(1953).
Very interesting. I am also interested to know why a President's limo would be in an auto show in Paris, France in July of 1953? Would he have only used this car for 1 year? I wonder?
Checking further, I've read that the car was never used by IKE while he was President due to the lack of safety features. One article says he did ride in it before he took office, while Truman was President; rather, while President, he used a Lincoln Cosmopolitan limo with a glass top for most of his 8 years in office. Another article says that this Caddy limo recently sold for $55,000.

Go back and listen/read the instriuctions for jacking this monster. You're using the BUMPER as a fulcrum to lift a 6,000 pound car - and it works. Who's got a strong chassis, then, eh? Cadillac was still bumper-jacking in the 1970s....and look again under the hood: air conditioning, when most movie theaters still weren''t air conditioned. That's why Cadillac (then) was called The Standard Of The World. Not Rolls-Royce; Cadillac. Count the number of heat exchangers, too. Five, I think?
Gentlemen: nice video ...however...some of us wish that people would learn the differences between a Limo and a 7-passenger Sedan. This car is NOT a limo...there is no divider window...the chauffeur's compartment is not black leather upholstery. This is a 7-passenger 75 Sedan...Anyone who is knowledgeable about automobiles would know these facts. Finally, I doubt sincerely that GM would have used white leather in 1952.

HI Irfan Khan, Glad you enjoyed this "Big Daddy Caddy" :-) Wishing you a wonderful New Year too, Lou
Truman's Little White House Museum in Key West has one of Truman's 1950 Lincoln limo you might consider for a future episode.
Hi Gerard, That would be a good car. Thanks for the tip, Lou
Lou, your videos are great. Love the format and method you use. Thank you for taking your time to share these gems with us!
Makes me happy to read you love the format. Thank you jmgathg for leaving a wonderful comment. You're welcome, Lou
As a European I'll say that for me that is an American car! It comes from a time when the USA was, I think, rather more different from Europe than it is today with regard to car design. It is a glorious thing to behold.

This car is sweet!
Hi Glen Denig, Glad you enjoyed this one and consider the car "sweet" :-) Lou
Hi Lou! Wow! Monumental car! Very beautiful Cadillac! Thank you Lou for the review! Happy New Year Lu! Happy New Year America!
Hi Bad Russian, Glad you enjoyed this Big Daddy Caddy :-) Happy New Year, Lou
So nice.
:-)
Lou, 'those points' on the front bumper as you called them are referred to as Dagmars derived from the notable physical attributes of 1950's 'well endowed' actress Dagmar who was known for low-cut gowns and conical bra cups. It's said she found the tribute amusing.
Hi 46619TAB, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and adding to the story, Lou
What type of tires does this car have
round
Happy New Year to you, your family and everybody!
Hi John Roberts, This Cadillac has a lot going on for sure :-) Thank you for sharing the details you enjoyed. Happy New Year, Lou
Eisenhower was a chain smoker...
I guess in winter, that would be bad luck
I had a school teacher, in the mid 60s with 5 kids and she drove a 52 Cadillac limo, big cars. Eisenhower liked Cadillacs , he rode in a new Eldorado when he was sworn in as President
Hi califdad4, Thank you for viewing, sharing about your Teacher, and adding to the story. Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Loved video you never disappoint Sir! I would like to visit this museum. Cadillacs always have been my favorite luxury cars particularly ones from the 50's. Have to add some always point out how big these cars were. Maybe because I am a native Texan all I see is a well preserved classic. The size is not that big of a deal!
Hi Frank, Good news! If you go to the description of this video you'll see a website link and the Klairmont Kollection is open a few days for the public to visit. Hope you see the Museum soon, Lou
Cool video! I love american classics.
In central Europe, we don't have cars like this in there. Would love to visit US once.
Glad you thought this one is "cool" :-) Hope you can visit some day soon. If you cannot yet, then I hope the videos bring the US cars to you to enjoy.
Hi Erwin Pierce, That's cool that you have a model of this one :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Much better than all the plastic crap they sell today.
Hi Stanley, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this TH-cam Channel, Lou
Hi from Clark, You might be right, this might be leather. Happy to share that gas cap feature with you. Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this TH-cam Channel, Lou
Hi Phonejag1, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this TH-cam Channel, Lou
They have stretch the tailfins ??
Hmmm, it didn't seem so.
Who was the coachbuilder? the roof resembles Louis B. Mayers 1950 Imperial
Not sure. Thank you for sharing your knowledge regarding the roof ELECTRICCLOCK, Lou
incredible
Glad you enjoy this one :-)
Lou -- great vid, thanks. The coachbuilder that stretched and modified it was Derham (not Durham) in Rosemont, PA. Enos Derham actually kept the business afloat until the 1970's.
Hi Mark Drukenbrod, The title is correctly updated to "Derham". Thank you for educating me on that. Glad you enjoyed this video, and please take your time on the Channel and I hope you see many more cars you'll enjoy, Lou
And the president's first name was Dwight, not Dewight.
Not really sure if this was "streched." It looks like the standard Series 75 long-wheelbase factory-built car, heavily modified by Derham. I understand Derham also modified 60 Special Cadillacs, and some very pretty Packard Patrician sedans.
there"s a nice beasty didn't that stretch style eventually become known as the caddy formal ?
Don't know about the "Caddy Formal". Maybe a Viewer can share knowledge.
"Formal Sedans" per the factory, were Series 75 long wheelbase cars with extra fold-out rear seats but without the glass partition/division and the traditional black leather driver's seat.
Hey Lou, this is as good a video as you could get in the building, thank you. I sure wish it could have been outside for a better look though.
Lou
You should have asked if the limo was bullet proof or not
Hmmm, didn't think of it.
Good they had a jack and spare tire Ike always come prepare
Good to be prepared.
All thru the 50's most American cars had gas fillers fitted in the rear.ie.behind tail lights, license plates. They were eventually done away with because of safety factors being rear end collisions.Cadillac also gave IKE the first Eldorado convertible(1953).
Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge vern wallen :-) Lou
Dwight is misspelled “Dewight” on the windshield card.
Opps !
Very nice car, and the collection, Must be a hard car to drive when backing up or parking, as you have that very small rear window.
Hi estpst, You're right. and a good point. It would help to have a "Spotter" on this one for backing up :-) Lou
Is that cream and black upholstery genuine leather? Because it looks awfully vinyl-y to me. For the president?
Hi steeldan dansteely, I think it's leather. Lou
Very interesting. I am also interested to know why a President's limo would be in an auto show in Paris, France in July of 1953? Would he have only used this car for 1 year? I wonder?
Hmmm, Interesting question. Not sure the answer.
Thank you for sharing your research.
Very cool Lou :)
Glad you enjoyed this one 11094DEREK :-)
A great car for a great General and President ?

Hey Stardust Dream Factory, You gotta do what you gotta do. Hope you enjoy all the cars on the Channel, Lou
Very nice :)
Glad you enjoyed this one :-)
:)
Is it Durham or Derham?
It's Derham. Updated the title, and thank you Jeff.
Lou Costabile and I thought it was a typo by the owner! I notice he spelled Dwight and Dewight. Thanks Lou !
You're correct there are 2 typo's on that sheet.
Nice car :-)
Glad you enjoyed this one :-)
Got Dwight's name spelled wrong there, hoss.
Thank you for pointing that out Little Joe.
Same age as me.
Happy to read you and this car have the same birth year :-)
Dewight??
?
@@loucostabile They misspelled his name. Car is all about Eisenhower and they can't get his name right.
Nice Dagmars .
Hubba Hubba
I can't imagine being in charge of keeping all those tires aired up on all of those cars!
Hi Clark Griswold, You're right, there are a couple guys who do the maintenance, Lou
Looks like some of the chrome needs to be replated

Go back and listen/read the instriuctions for jacking this monster. You're using the BUMPER as a fulcrum to lift a 6,000 pound car - and it works. Who's got a strong chassis, then, eh? Cadillac was still bumper-jacking in the 1970s....and look again under the hood: air conditioning, when most movie theaters still weren''t air conditioned. That's why Cadillac (then) was called The Standard Of The World. Not Rolls-Royce; Cadillac. Count the number of heat exchangers, too. Five, I think?
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Charlie finlay, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
That's classic' and he's standing next to a Duesenburg
Hi Jo C, Thanks for viewing & sharing, Lou
Ike was one of the four best presidents of the 20th century. The others being the two Roosevelts and Reagan.

Hi trainroomgary, Glad you "Like Ike" :-) Happy to read you thought this one is cool, Lou
I Like Ike one super flyer Potus
Glad you enjoyed this one :-)
Wear gloves when you're handling that irreplaceable Life magazine that has the story of Ike's life & funeral in Ike's own car. Your mom would scold you if she'd witnessed that little episode.
Hi Bill, Actually, I'm very careful with items, and that is how I've built the trust of people to care for such objects to share with you. Glad to read you're concerned, and I'll take good care of items. Stay well, and hope you se MANY more cars you enjoy on this TH-cam Channel, Lou
What ? Vinyl top material over the kontikit tirer ?
Sorry but a chrom ring is better !
Thank you for sharing your thought.
🏁💪👍🏁💪🏁👍🏁💪🏁👍🏁💪🏁👍🏁
Grand prix de Paris ! 💪😉
NICE ! :-)
Seems presidential, but this car was built when Eisenhower was still just Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
A beautiful car for sure....But, gotta admit that thick white vinyl top and small rear window look like something out of a 70s pimpmobile...
Hi Kramden, Glad you like the looks of this one :-) You can clearly get a lot of people in this one, Lou
First!!! "Winner"
NICE ! :-)
Dewight ????????????????????
Yeah, I saw that. However, since the museum bought the car, shares it, and allows us to start the car for you, I think it's best to extend grace :-)
if you're thinking about buying me a Cadillac, forget it. I won't take it.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts.

One year before power steering, otherwise this car would’ve had it
Thank you for the tip davidpar2, Lou
+Lou Costabile sure. Thanks for the video. I’ve loved vintage Caddys since I was a boy

Wonder if they charge double parking fees? Ike was one of my favorite presidents.

Beautiful vehicle! Is it wrong to see Mel Gibson piloting this in a Mad Max reboot?
Hi Woody Glendell, Glad you enjoyed this "beautiful vehicle!" :-) Lou

Glove compartment door fail--typical GM!
8-0
I wish I was rich!
What would you buy?
A 1959 Ford Galaxie with the retracible top.
Good choice :-)
No disrespect intended but your videos are really bad you can hardly hear you when you are talking and then you tell the person your interviewing to tell you about the car but you don't let them talk I think that's rude and disrespectful just my personal opinion
HI Carlos Valdes, No disrespect taken. I'm so excited when I'm around the cars (and I know you're a "Car Guy" too) that I may sometimes talk over someone because I'm focused on the car, so it's not intentional. Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. I do my best to make sure when the Care Taker is talking, I'm not, Lou
