Fun Fact #2: The US manual also credits Pete Escovedo's "Mister E" as the inspiration for Palmtree Panic. You can listen to it here: th-cam.com/video/2TXzjyL6Am0/w-d-xo.html Fun Fact #3: Little Planet was originally the Present theme for a cut second level called Dubious Depths, though an earlier idea for the level's name was Ridicule Root. Masato Nishimura believes the level was cut due to not being able to fit the level's music on the disk. Fun Fact #4: Naofumi Hataya said that Miracle Blue~Little Planet~ was meant to represent the nostalgia for Sonic CD and that the "Blue" in the title refers to Sonic. Fun Fact #5: According to Masato Nishimura, the JP "Boss!!" theme was sung by a black Sega employee named Steve. He wasn't a developer and it's unknown what his last name is. Fun Fact #6: According to Naofumi Hataya if he were to explain his feelings about each song and his close relationship with the game, it would take about 2000 pages. Fun Fact #7: The US soundtrack eventually made it's way to Japan thanks to the 1996 Windows PC port which used the US soundtrack in all regions. The USA would have to wait until 2011 for the mobile remake to finally play Sonic CD with the JP soundtrack.
Okay I see the what you meant by missing 2nd part now actually..the original beta loop cuts off and loops again a bit faster than the remastered one does.
I do the same man, I have been loving this game since before I ever got to speak properly and it was thanks to the music and my late grandfather for showing me this game, god I miss him still though🥹
I think this is legitimately the only place I can listen to the original Palmtree Panic Good Future theme without having some part of the song missing or being poorly edited
@@DubiousDepthsRadio I WILL say, I do prefer some other versions with the unofficial loops. But having the real, full, HD versions just make this my go-to video when I want to listen to the soundtrack.
@@DanielDeadpool listening to this a little bit I think this is indeed the superior version I will say my complain with this... is the ppz loop and MMz present loop And some songs I rather listen to the loop in the beginning and then the actual song

Wait, is this Canon!? Or did you make this!? If you made this, this is fantastic! If this was made by SEGA, What the f**k. How come I didn't know this?
@@oddballer5950 Can I use the names for free?? Im writting a Sonic fanfic/comic, summarising some games story modes as it was a sole lineal story and this names n coxnept ideas are handy. And very cool honesty ❤
I really like how the JP and US soundtracks can give a completely different perspective on the zones and their general vibes, Collision Chaos and Stardust Speedway in particular.
1:05:23 I like to call this version of the zone Crazy Toy Box (which was the original name of Wacky Workbench and this particular version of it reminds me of a toy store for some reason)
Y'know what they say, third time's the charm! Regardless, thank you for your hard work on this tough subject. The US and JP CD OSTs are the best in the entire series, both are equals in my eyes. It's crazy how this was made 30 years ago with the limitations back then.
This is one of my favourite videos to constantly come back to! The Sonic CD soundtrack is one of my all-time favourite soundtracks, and this video is probably the definitive way to listen to them all, imo. From the beta loops, to the obscure remixes, this video’s got ‘em all!!
Until I came across this video and read the description, I never knew Mark "Sterling" Crew, Armando Peraza, or Bobby Vega worked on the US Soundtrack. I always thought it was just Spencer Nilsen, David Young, and the members of Pastiche. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
I personally like the US ost given the fact that it probably felt like a whole new experience to it's audience at the time. That's how it felt to me when I played origins. I was so used too the sega soundfont that hearing real instruments and voices without sounding compressed or 16 bit felt really awesome and fit the game so much more IMO. especially the boss theme, Dr. Eggman has always been a joke, his name is "Dr. Eggman" ffs. But that boss theme reflects who he is at his core, he is a genuine threat regardless of how he looks or behaves. This is the same man who threatened the world with an orbital canon, He may act foolish and lash out like a child but his ideals and overall goal are the same as they were in the 90's cartoon. Cold, unnatural, distanced from humanity and morality.
Sonic CD means so much to me. Thank you soso much for all of your work. I feel like I'm listening to it for the first time, even though I've heard the soundtrack so much over the years.
Okay, as soon as I listened to the JP part of the soundtrack, I'm just dancing and just vibing to this masterpiece, but there are some songs that just need a few touch-ups to fit in the unused loops better when I was listening to them. Here's some recommendations to make the JP version of the songs sound better imo: PP Pr & GF (8 times unused loops), CC BF (section c 8 times loop, 4 times unused loop) , QQ Pr (4 times loop) & BF (4 times unused loop and 4 times transition to unused loop), WW Pr, BF & GF (4 times unused loops for Pr, GF & BF, 4 times transition loop to unused loop). Despite that, I love the soundtrack so much and thank you for making them even better. Now I can listen and enjoy to these songs in their full glory (Also there's a prototype version of Collision Chaos Past that's CD quality and is found on the 0.51 version of the prototype. Hope you add that in there too!).
I appreciate the feedback! While some of these suggestions may sound better, the goal of this project was to be accurate to how the beta loops were intended to be used. I also believe you are mistaken about the 0.51 beta having a CD quality version of Collision Chaos "P" Mix. There are some slight differences compared to the final but it's not CD quality. You can listen to it yourself at The Cutting Room Floor: tcrf.net/Proto:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_CD_(Sega_CD)/Ver0.51#Collision_Chaos_.22P.22_Mix
The passage of time made me realize that the US OST is not as bad as I thought a few years ago, although I don't think it is as good as the Japanese, I have started to enjoy it, I listened to the entire video without problems
Yes! I love the Stardust Speedway Cash Cash/Jun Senoue version, glad to see it was added! Let me just copy-paste my comment from the old video here: This is so well put together! I like how each song has its respective animated BG, and I love that you added extras and little fun facts as well. Outstanding job! I can't like this enough 💞
They all dread this place we’re in Because of you, he's going through it Gotta get through; you know the deal But you're not through. He's going through it Get yourself ready for a fight This time he's superb Yo, we're outta here (You are dead are you)
@@tylerparkes-jk7uv I just copied it from the The Sonic Wiki Zone. There's never been an official reveal of what the lyrics are, but it's not too difficult to figure out what the lyrics are if you slow the song down.
You have presented us with music that I had no idea existed, official remixes, albums, the beta intro! This research and restoration work of yours is admired and recognized. Thank you so much.
Genuinely an insane and respectful job, thank you for everything about it! I just had one question, is the US version of the game’s Final Boss exactly the same as the normal boss? I’ve heard people say the track switched a major key to a minor or vice-versa when playing the Final Boss and I wanted to know if it was the case or not? Also big thanks for everything, this is my definitive Sonic CD playlist!
wow! Thanks for taking the time to do this! It's awesome to finally hear those mythic samples in full working fashion. And it's even topped it of with a delightful presentation! You got us the definitive way to consume both osts in one very pretty video, and I'm very thankful for it.
God damn, the US Bad Futures give you the feeling that everything around you is fucking dying in pain. Somehow it feels TOO much for a Sonic game, and I know that's kinda the point of the game, but also the JP versions are more exaturated and groovy... The US Bad Futures are literally terrifying.
And Metallic Madness Good Future US sounds like a world only beginning to recover from Eggman's rule, as opposed to JP sounding like utopia has been achieved.
Meanwhile, Metallic Madness's Bad Future songs are both very fitting. JP's conveys Eggman laughing at you knowing you're going to get the bad ending. US's conveys the scale of destruction Robotnik has left behind.
This should be the final one! There would have to be a major bombshell of a reveal like the original uncompressed loops being discovered for me to even consider doing a fourth one. If another obscure official remix is discovered I'll probably just add it to the download links rather then making another video for it. As of now this is the most "complete" release of the soundtrack available on TH-cam.
Love your work here. And of course, i still very much appreciate your thorough and detailed explanation in the video description, your passion bleeds right through!
you are a true legend, seriously, i am producing a sonic cd video and this is going to help me SO MUCH, thank you!!! :D I can see the effort in putting every detail with love into the musics
Sonic CD DID NOT have permission to have a BALLIN' Soundtrack but managed to get onto my fav Sonic OST List in 1st Place (I like the JP Soundtrack more than the US Soundtrack. is anyone else on my side??)
we actually need a restored ost video for sonic the hedgehog spinball dr. robotnik's mean bean machine knuckles' chaotix and sonic 3d blast (sega saturn)
I'm pretty sure all those game's already have full complete soundtracks. The only one I can *"maybe"* see is Sonic Spinball since no one ever seems to include the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom album versions of those tracks: th-cam.com/video/lFmpHt-GJ8I/w-d-xo.html There'a also this version of the Spinball theme from Virtual Sonic that is nearly identical to the version from the Boom album but the drums are different: th-cam.com/video/WLq6ZEVdHxM/w-d-xo.html
O dang, Find it kinda interesting I actually just ran into the other previous version like less than a week ago XD but regardless I’m happy to hear it again with some additional content 😌💕
Really? I never knew Past themes for the US soundtrack were planned. Do you have a link to where Spencer Nilsen said that? I did add King Meteor Studio's US Past videos to this playlist: th-cam.com/video/C7PcdGsqmko/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
Great work on this restoration project! The only gripe that I have with the downloads is that the audio files lack album covers, which is a personal problem for me since I want to integrate these tracks into my personal _Sonic the Hedgehog_ Spotify playlist. So can you please update the audio files to include cover images?
@@LiterallyAlive Honestly it's actually supposed to be even louder using the same LUFS process I used with every other loop. I thought that was way to loud so I decided to just leave volume unmodified. The volume it's at now is slightly quieter/almost identical to the original PCM loop when properly adjusted.
@@Plumbers_Helper In general, I don’t undertake to criticize you, more than half of your restorations are in my playlist and this is excellent job because I am really selective about soundtracks, especially such beautiful as in Sonic CD, still the best, I'm sorry if I was rude
@@LiterallyAlive Thank you. I did my absolute best to try and make every track the best it can be and I'm always willing to listen to criticism if it means I can improve Sonic CD's soundtrack. I hope my explanation for the Metallic Madness loop was satisfactory.

🎓 Fun Facts 📖
Fun Fact #1: According to the US game credits and manual the official name for the US soundtrack is either "Special Edition for North America" or "Sonic CD / North American Version".
Fun Fact #2: The US manual also credits Pete Escovedo's "Mister E" as the inspiration for Palmtree Panic. You can listen to it here: th-cam.com/video/2TXzjyL6Am0/w-d-xo.html
Fun Fact #3: Little Planet was originally the Present theme for a cut second level called Dubious Depths, though an earlier idea for the level's name was Ridicule Root.

@@JaxRetroGamer I'm working on it! Accidently published the video before I had everything ready!
Hey whats wrong with the metallic madness g mix new beta loop? It sounds worse than the one in the old video..
I know about the missing 2nd part of the loop but now its just downgraded as the one in this vid doesn't have the 2nd part of the loop either
Okay I see the what you meant by missing 2nd part now actually..the original beta loop cuts off and loops again a bit faster than the remastered one does.
As someone to who listens to the sonic cd soundtrack atleast once a week, this is cool as fuck, thanks!
Yes, that's true. I don't know why users cut out or edited the Japanese soundtrack without the beta loop.
I honestly prefer the blueluigi one
It sounded a little off when fully ended 💀 lol
@@DubiousDepthsRadio I WILL say, I do prefer some other versions with the unofficial loops. But having the real, full, HD versions just make this my go-to video when I want to listen to the soundtrack.
@@DanielDeadpool listening to this a little bit

I will say my complain with this... is the ppz loop and MMz present loop

Like the idea to use the backgrounds to make the video feel less vacant. Wish more people just animated the backgrounds for screensavers and stuff.
The fact that this project exists AND it's given to both the JP and US OSTs makes me impeccably happy.
1:05:23 I like to call this version of the zone Crazy Toy Box (which was the original name of Wacky Workbench and this particular version of it reminds me of a toy store for some reason)

WHAT?! Letting creators use this with no expectation of credit?? You deserve the damn credit but that’s very valiant. Thank you so much!
Y'know what they say, third time's the charm! Regardless, thank you for your hard work on this tough subject.
The US and JP CD OSTs are the best in the entire series, both are equals in my eyes. It's crazy how this was made 30 years ago with the limitations back then.
The video that I listen to at work has been updated? Right after I finish my Sonic CD Stream? Oh you spoil us~
But😘
For some quite reason i feel unconfortable reading the last 4 words
💞👩❤️💋👨💞
both JP and US are flawless masterpieces of music.
God-tier, unforgettable soundtrack and is the best on the Sega Genesis along with Thunderforce IV's OST
SONIC BOOM! SONIC BOOM! Saving the Planet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of my favourite videos to constantly come back to!
The Sonic CD soundtrack is one of my all-time favourite soundtracks, and this video is probably the definitive way to listen to them all, imo. From the beta loops, to the obscure remixes, this video’s got ‘em all!!
Tidal Tempest "B" Mix is so calming and hypnotic!
Until I came across this video and read the description, I never knew Mark "Sterling" Crew, Armando Peraza, or Bobby Vega worked on the US Soundtrack. I always thought it was just Spencer Nilsen, David Young, and the members of Pastiche. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
sonic cd's music catalog really needed a proper re-lift and it really paid off, good work!
This is the most dedicated thing that i've seen ever before with a soundtrack. Thanks all of you for your work!
It's a good time to be a Sonic CD fan.
Now that I've listened to your restored version of the OST, I can't go back
Spencer was ahead of his time
And I think you're continuing that legacy my guy
Okay, hot take: The American OST slaps as hard as the Japanese, and that is *RARE.*
Love seeing all these cool backgrounds .. the art in this game is so fun
You can listen to it yourself at The Cutting Room Floor:
tcrf.net/Proto:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_CD_(Sega_CD)/Ver0.51#Collision_Chaos_.22P.22_Mix
@@Plumbers_Helper I always thought that it was a CD quality version of it. Guess I was mistaken.
I Like to enjoy the Backrounds of the Levels
The passage of time made me realize that the US OST is not as bad as I thought a few years ago, although I don't think it is as good as the Japanese, I have started to enjoy it, I listened to the entire video without problems
Yes! I love the Stardust Speedway Cash Cash/Jun Senoue version, glad to see it was added!
Let me just copy-paste my comment from the old video here:
This is so well put together! I like how each song has its respective animated BG, and I love that you added extras and little fun facts as well. Outstanding job! I can't like this enough 💞
This'll do nicely to listen to while I'm at work!
"Sonic Stream" would've been perfect for the cut final boss in Sonic CD 2011, or at the least a build-up to it

@@Plumbers_Helper How and where did u find the official lyrics for Metallic Madness JP?
@@tylerparkes-jk7uv I just copied it from the The Sonic Wiki Zone. There's never been an official reveal of what the lyrics are, but it's not too difficult to figure out what the lyrics are if you slow the song down.

Also big thanks for everything, this is my definitive Sonic CD playlist!
my ears are very happy now.
wow! Thanks for taking the time to do this! It's awesome to finally hear those mythic samples in full working fashion. And it's even topped it of with a delightful presentation! You got us the definitive way to consume both osts in one very pretty video, and I'm very thankful for it.
Man, this is ART
I love sonic CD so much I love both JP and US soundtracks
God damn, the US Bad Futures give you the feeling that everything around you is fucking dying in pain. Somehow it feels TOO much for a Sonic game, and I know that's kinda the point of the game, but also the JP versions are more exaturated and groovy... The US Bad Futures are literally terrifying.
And Metallic Madness Good Future US sounds like a world only beginning to recover from Eggman's rule, as opposed to JP sounding like utopia has been achieved.
@@100DollarHeadache Very mediocre Good Future song, in my opinion.
Meanwhile, Metallic Madness's Bad Future songs are both very fitting. JP's conveys Eggman laughing at you knowing you're going to get the bad ending. US's conveys the scale of destruction Robotnik has left behind.
@@100DollarHeadache I agree! I have had the same ideas.
The best Sonic OST ever!
Third time's the charm i guess. But thanks for this "update"

What's wrong the Metallic Madness loop? If it's the speed of the loop then that's the way it's supposed to be.
@@Plumbers_Helper no, it’s simply too loud when you hear it with headphones
@@LiterallyAlive Honestly it's actually supposed to be even louder using the same LUFS process I used with every other loop.
