  • Here's a look at how the Cambridge Cameo compares with the Personal Size Concord. The regular Concord makes an appearance too.

    We are so blessed to have such troubles as choosing which Bible to read from. While my choice of translation is no longer bound by such confusion, I still have the problem of which edition to choose on Sundays. If I had the choice, I would just switch covers. The text block on the right wins for me, while the goatskin cover is a no brainer.
    Thanks for presenting such wonderful choices. 🤔

      Thanks! I agree. This is a good problem to have.

    Cambridge Personal Concorde is SO UNDER-RATED!!!! I have many Bibles (several that cost 3-4 times as much) and the personal Concorde is my fav to actually sit and read. Perfect size, great readability, and the stiffer leather makes it SO NICE to hold.
    LOVE IT

    The Cameo wins for me, plus it’s one of the most emblematic versions!

    with KJV I like having a dictionary! The Concord seems the best size for me between the 3. I bought a fake leather personal size concord and it's hard for me to read. I have an older cameo that I really like - small print but I've never had a problem reading it - it's small enough I can hold closer to my eyes and it's still comfortable

    I’m weird I guess. I love the stiffer French Morocco cover.

      Same here. I love the stiffer covers. My only complaint on this one is it won't open flat.

    Get it in the guise of the TBS Classic Reference KJV. Both are Cambridge Personal Concord blocks (with the same pagination) but the TBS has no concordance and no 128 page dictionary so it is only 1” thick as a result. It also looks bolder than the Personal Concord. All the reviews make a point of noting how thick the paste-down liner is in the TBS version. (Maybe it’s to address the tearing problem you found.) It also costs less than the Cambridge Personal Concord. So my suggestion is ... get the Cameo (goatskin) AND the TBS Classic Reference KJV. I have :-)

    I have them both and love them both. In content, th concord wins. In readability and typeface, cameo wins. It would be hard but if I had to pick one it would be the cameo.

    One reason I buy hardcover is pages do not come out.

    It’s so confusing which Bible is which. Once out of the boxes they are stacked and shuffled like cards. Then called this one and this one. You would be real good at three card monte.

    Most old hot press Cameo printings will exhibit a broken letter "f" in the word "lifted" in Psalm 83:2

    The Cambridge Concord Reference bible that I ordered from Evangelical Bibles that is printed by Printcorp had printing issues. I'm very disappointed. Is this a fake version?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not fake. Print Corp is one of the companies that Cambridge uses for printing. I actually didn't know they had used them for the Concord, but I do have several other Cambridge editions from Print Corp. The printing issues could be normal. It's an old setting from the 50's, so there is sometimes some variation in print darkness.

    Bible Buying Guides: that you should show us of those three KJV bibles back binding what’s looking alike if same or differences. So I would think about buying either one or both someday. Thanks.

    I have a question for you. I have the Tbs classic reference which is basically the personal concord. I have seen reports that the font is around 7 but then also 8. Is it the same size as the cameo. It’s hard for me to imagine it being smaller but having the same footprint. Is the cameo with the extra cost. How does imitation covers last compared to calf or goatskin

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. It's closer to 7. It's smaller than the Cameo. It's labeled differently on different websites, which can be confusing. Some are including the leading (space between the line to the next line). Some are providing the size as when compared to a different font. All are correct, but without knowing how they're measuring it, the font can seem larger than it is.
      The Cameo is worth it if you need an 8-point or you prefer to have the cross-reference and footnote keys in the text. I actually prefer the Concord design, but the font can be a little small for those that need a larger text.
      I don't have the imitation leather to compare, but I've heard that Cambrdige and TBS have a high-quality imitation. I think it would last 2-3 years, depending on how it's used. The calfskin would double that. The pasted liner would eventually come apart. The goatskin would last a decade or more. The synthetic liner would eventually peel. If you find one with a leather liner (or have it rebound), it would last a lifetime. You could get the imitation and have it rebound when needed. This would give you the best cover.

      @@BibleBuyingGuide thank you so much for your reply. i am still waiting for a high quality emerald or large print cambridge. that would really meet my needs. i have an allan 53 but i just love the old font cambridge does. i really enjoy the boldness of the letters. the cameo looks a lot like the older font to me. i gerenally do not like the red font mainly because it always looks too poppy but it is really rich and bold so i really like the look.

      @@LegBuilder the Cameo was typeset in the 1920s so it's probably what you're looking for. The Concord is from the 1950s.

    • @RoastBeefSandwich
      @RoastBeefSandwich 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The french morocco cover of the personal sized Concord will never lay flat and if you flex the spine too much it tears there, mine has done the same thing. It doesn't get any worse than that though.

    • @dannySG61
      @dannySG61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoastBeefSandwich yes it will never lay flat totally but after some use it lays open reasonably enough for me to put it on the desk and read it hands-free from Exodus onwards
