Everyone suggesting that Oscar should help Lando win the Drivers' Championship is overlooking one key point: If Lando wins, Oscar gains nothing but stands to lose significantly. In fact, Oscar would likely do everything possible to prevent Lando from winning, and McLaren can’t stop him, no matter how much they want Lando to succeed. Here’s why: If Lando wins this year, 2025 will see the spotlight shift even more towards him. The media and fans will subconsciously label Oscar as the No. 2 driver, and internally, Lando could start receiving preferential treatment from the team, jeopardizing Oscar's 2025 title chances. History shows that being a teammate to a world champion is challenging, and Mark Webber, Oscar's manager, knows this well from his own experience as a No. 2 driver. He wouldn’t let that happen to Oscar and will likely ensure his contract protects him from being forced into a supporting role. To be clear, Oscar will cooperate if it’s about the Team Championship.
The guy who looks the worst when someone wins the championship is the teammate of the champion, so of course Oscar will not personally want Lando to win. However, he is supposed to drive for McLaren who is supposed to want Lando to win (Oscar is too far behind now). I blame the team for allowing them to race. Oscar did what he had to do as a proud racing driver. Lando needs to do the same back to him.
@@dereksbooksOscar still is capable of winning the WDC, but not only that, he's more than in the fight for P2 in the championship. It's still too early, and too much a longshot to suggest that Oscar should be giving all his positions to Lando. TLDR, today, Oscar outright beat Lando.
Since the Miami GP, Lando’s strengths has been qualifying, speed and tyre management. Since the Miami GP, Oscar’s strengths has been one of the best starter, aggressiveness in the first four laps, overtaking, braking and speed. At the same time, Oscar has gotten his tyre management under control and is learning how to better manage his tyres at every single race. Oscar’s qualifying times not that far off Lando’s qualifying times. Oscar uses the same driving style in qualifying as he uses in the race, meaning he can out brake almost all drivers, including Lando. I believe that Lando has developed a different driving style for qualifying that doesn’t always help in the actual race. Both drivers are learning to win races and be on the podium at the same time, but Oscar is probably more analytical and better at strategy. It’s quite clear that Oscar makes the strategy calls in the race with his race engineer. With F1 race experience, Oscar should be exceptionally at race strategies. Why should Oscar settle for being a number 2 driver when he has clearly shown that he can beat Max, Charles, Lando and Lewis in a WDC fight. Oscar is currently demonstrating that he’s one of the most consistent and talented drivers.
@@michaelcobbin not that I doubt what you're saying but I'd like to see the evidence regarding Oscar and Lando's driving styles regarding quali vs race. I'd like to know where I can find that info. However, Lando has been in F1 and driving for McLaren for 6 years now. He's honed his style over many years to suit McLaren's preferred driving style. To be clear, the McLaren still has its difficult-to-drive handling quirks and the car has to be driven on a razor-thin edge or margin of performance and requires adjustment corner to corner, lap to lap, even though its much faster now. Lando is really good at this, probably his biggest strength which is why he's so fast in it compared to everyone else. And then you have the marshmallow tyres which Lando has become really good at treating well. Lando knows the McLaren style inside and out and how the car has to be managed and driven. Oscar on the other hand is much more aggressive in his style and has had to adapt a lot to the McLaren and the Pirelli tyres. Aggressive on minimum speed through corners, always pushes the limit of grip and is super aggressive and early on the accelerator out of corners. This is where his speed comes from. You're right in that Oscar drives the same in quali as in the race. Lando on the other hand is a lot more gentle, smooth and relaxed with the car, like he's taking it on a nice sunday drive. If McLaren makes a car next year without the peakiness of performance and driving quirks, and make a car that is a bit more compatible with Oscar's style, I think the tables might turn a little.
Well, hate it or not, Oscar is not shy to display that champion mentality. If Lando wanted to fight for the championship, Max is not his only opponent, he has to fight Oscar too, like a racing driver.
@@youbetu18 Exactly, I think most people actually had forgotten Oscar is not that far behind to Lando in points, and Lando’s championship fight means nothing to Oscar, because as a race car driver he’s here to make a statement, quite literally, to tell his team who’s the boss here. Either you beat your teammate, or you become not too bad for a 2nd driver for the rest of your career, I’m sure Webber taught him about this

This version of Leclerc reminds me of Max 2020 , he really has found another gear and is realizing his talent that I believe every sane F1 fan could see he had , he is borderline disrespected at times and underrated , he is the best driver after Max from the 'new generation ' and always has been
Agreed. Normally the Ferrari should not have been on the podium at Zandvoort. Charles put himself on that podium. This time around McLaren was too cocky and pitted pre-emptively and Charles made it work till the end. Absolute boss.

Monza 2019, austria 22 with broken throttle, and now this one too I swear some f1 fans dont even watch the sport when they make such comments.
So he should. If Lando was allowed to win everyone would just say it’s because he’s the superior driver, etc. Piastri didn’t make it F1 just to boost Lando’s career.
That's for sure! Showing you are faster than your teammate while keeping it tidy is never a problem for the faster guy! Keep doing it, and eventually, the team will deliver the bad news to the other driver. Worst case for McLaren is Norris gets his feelings hurt AND Oscar leaves!
Oscar Piastri is a racer in a F1 team who allows the team mates to race each other. He then pulled off an aggressive but perfect pass on his team mate to give himself the best chance of winning the race. That's it. Full stop. "Oohhh he pulled the wind out of Lando's sails" please, this sounds like some kids mum after school at little athletics. Congrats Charles.
It’s a team game, they did not play as a team yesterday. Oscar was too focused on himself and that cost the team the race & a chance for one of their drivers to get a lot closer to winning the championship.
They only let Oscar fight Norris, but when Norris is infront he has to give the place back...I hope he man's up and F's Piastri everytime from now on. Wont be a WDC if U let your teamm8 pass like that everytime.
Absolutely agree and it’s easy for Peter the Ferrari fan to retrospectively find a strategy error .. why were McLaren using their tyres, well because they were always on Plan A, 2 stops. Why did Ferrari take such a big risk, (it was a risk, not a plan) well because it was the only chance they had of a win vs 6th and 7th.
@dandanthesoundman7607 If McLaren say Team Orders, it's team orders. If they say Free to Race, you get to see world class talent on display like Turn 4. It's the pinnacle of racing, not stage managed theatre on wheels.
@@bbb229 for god sake that was one race .. and they had agreed at the team meeting that morning who ever was in front at the 1st corner got priority. If lando wasn't crap at starting from pole he wouldn't have to worry..
So true😂 Wait, what? Oscar? How? No that's not in the script! Oh the humanity. Yes they should be free to race each other, but only as long as Lando is in front! It was a genuine hard core racers move by Piastri, executed to perfection. As Piastri probably said at the de-brief, "I'm not here to fck spiders mate"
1st Congratulations to Charles Leclerc for putting in a magnificent performance today at Monza and winning the race showing impeccable race craft from start to finish 2nd .I’m actually stupefied on how McLaren yet again just absolutely fumble the bag AGAIN in a race that they were basically handed a win providing if they didn’t get the proverbial “ deer in the headlights mode during the end of the 1st stent but ALAS They found a way to screw it up for the 6th time costing them a win that was basically there for them to get..
I think Piastri knew he could possibly make the one stop work but didn't want to get undercut by Lando and preferred to pit and risk it but ensure he was still in front of Lando 🤣
I think Mclaren is a bigger headache for Norris than Piastri. It's their management that cost him 2 seperate wins now. If he looses the chamionship by 15 or less points, we can all blame McLaren. Maybe McLaren 2024 went to the 2023 Ferrari school of race management.
@@sgt.pepper5078he’s not winning the championship either way. But in the future next year or something if he needs lando’s help it’s not gonna come and it could cost him then. Because they are pretty close to each other not like a bottas or checo whom couldn’t challenge Hamilton or Verstappen

Oscar Piastri is managed by Mark Webber. Mark Webber said Sebastian Vettel was 'protected' at Red Bull - in relation to the 'multi 21' incident. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark has told Oscar not to be the no.2
Compelling theory. Especially given Oscar seems a little passive, easy going or blasé when left to his own devices. Maybe Webber is what Piastri needs to instill some assertiveness into him which is what is currently happening.
Gotta love Oscar. He's such an introvert and all-round nice guy off track, but the bloke is such a racer and pure animal on track. Bring on the rest of the season!
Oscar seems to really just not care for the team at all... I felt he was super selfish all weekend, not caring if its a Mclaren front lockout, because he wasn't first. He would be 100 times happier if he gets pole and Lando has a big crash and starts last, rather then starting second not even a tenth of off pole...

I agree. And Carlos has too much self respect to "take it easy" - he is a true professional who respects his commitment to a team (Ferrari) and himself. He is doing his best with a challenging car and Charles is staying a couple of positions ahead of him.
@@thejp6713 He shoulda just put Oscar in the wall and then faced the whispering of a lifetime he would have gotten from Stella after the race. Norris hasn't figured out this isn't a sport for nice guys yet, he must be a tad slow 😂
I believe the decision made by Oscar to pit a 2nd time was made out of mis-trust of the team, I honestly think he pitted to cover Lando, not the Ferraris. I think Oscar still has scars from strategies that saw Lando benefit. He thought if beat Lando, he would automatically win the race.
I think youre being unfair on Oscar suggesting he squeezed George on turn 1, He was fully in front of George going into the turn. Also, are they not racing? Arent they all there to try and win. If Landos going to keep driving emotionally, as you suggest that Oscar passing him is what destroyed his race, then he'll never win a Championship.

Wow…there is some serious delusion in PW’s mind. First the Ashes, now this. Poms certainly know how to be a bunch of whinging losers
Oscar is a headache for all drivers on the grid. Alonso snd Hamilton in a racer imo. The reason oscar used up his tyres is because lando was destroying his tyres which caused oscar to do the same in defending. Oscar also knew he needed to build a gap sufficiently big enough that mclaren couldn't screw him over as they have done on multiple ocassions this year. McLaren are possibly costing him a wdc in 2024
Nice to see a variety of winners this season. Oscar appears to have the goods to be a future champion. He is making a point and Lando needs to get his elbows out.

@@bradnelson4778I think it’s pretty clear Red Bull has a priority sheet: 1. WDC 2. WCC 3. WCC 1-2 Fans and sponsors value the WDC more. The WCC income pales in comparison to the potential income a good WDC can bring in sponsorship money (even if they aren’t explicitly sponsoring the champion), and a WDC doesn’t penalize the team’s CFD or wind tunnel time. The WCC 1-2 is just bragging rights, and given RBR’s clear #1 #2 hierarchy, it’d take MP4/4 or RB19 dominance to secure that.
I learned something more about Oscar today. All the talk of him being Mr Nice Guy when in fact he's nothing but a ruthless, single minded, totally focussed on winning at all costs driver......just like all the great modern F1 drivers.... He's a future champion for certain. The fact I might find that irritating is immaterial.
Watched the race with a load of F1 fans at F1 Drive in London…worth a visit fyi. The general consensus among the fans is Lando isn’t the real deal but Oscar is…delighted to see Ferrari win
Taking another look it seems Lando loses the back end coming out of the first chicane, opening the door for Oscar. Then into the 3rd turn, Lando loses the back end again. People might say, well, that was because he got “shocked” by Oscar being there. Well really … this is F1 folks. Leclerc took exactly the same line through that apex as Lando dis and not only managed to avoid losing the rear, but was able to use that to pass Lando. These 20 guys are basically the top of the human food chain in terms of courage, endurance, strength, reaction times and competitiveness. So what does it take (forgive me Viper) to be the best of the best? Well one trait i missed in my list was pure focus. Being in flow state. In the zone. The x factor. Call it what you like. I wonder if Oscar would ever want the ‘team’ to protect him from another driver passing him in such a sublime manner.
was awesome to see Piastri take the lead. surely Norris didn't see it coming. risky moves, but fair racing and exciting to watch. even Zack Brown said, during interviews, that McLaren have two number 1 drivers. can you imagine how fun it would be to watch if RBR would allow for 2 competitive drivers? Mercedes, Ferrari, both have nice pairings of drivers too. the constructors championship really could come to any of the top 4 teams. realistically RBR, McLaren, maybe Ferrari. best F1 season in a decade. I'm really enjoying the action. Eight races left I think, anything can happen.
Interesting comment about Leclere's unstressed appearance at the end of the race. Puts me in mind of those occasions when Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost shared a podium. Nigel always looked as if he'd just done nine rounds with the world heavyweight champion, and Alain as if he'd just played nine rounds of golf.
Lando hasn’t got what it takes to be a world champ. He’s another Coulthard. Can you imagine, Max, or Schumacher or Lewis or Senna in the same situation ? Piastri would be taking bits of Armco and kitty litter out of his hair and wondering what happened on his way to hospital. He just doesn’t have that “ inner bastard” that it takes
@@jimc8609 😂😂😂😂 brilliant comment and true. The fact he's had a rocketship + pole for the past 6 or so races and only won 1 is worrying. hungary was a turning point. norris shouldve "taken out his earbuds" so to speak and just cruise to the victory instead of being a good little cuck. one of the two clearly has to make himself the nr 1 by their actions and results on track so the team has no other chance of backing them or zak has to grow a pair and appoint one of them nr 1., theyre not driving for just points anymore. norris throwing away wins in the fastest car is another topic however..
@@Pillshere31totally agree with you mate! McLaren knows Lando's problems With race starts plus his soft spot for Piastri. The management team should and have to correct their system
I'm a Verstappen fan and I was also absolutely delighted to see Leclerc win at Monza. He, and the team, really needed that win, and now they're right back in contention for the Constructors and only 20 odd points behind Norris. Wouldn't that be an outcome, if Leclerc pipped Norris to P2 in the WDC? In any case, as frustrating as the RB20 situation is for me, it's great that we're going into every race not knowing who's gonna win.
Peter, you are aware that Russell your fan boy was behind Piastri. He needs to not run into him at the 1st corner :) Also, Piastri had a better run to turn two and the slow kid got overtaken by a faster driver.
Many racing enthusiasts are Senna fans or at least respected his skills & determination. If that statement is accurate, Senna would have given Piastri's move on Norris a nod. We all know at least part of his quote. "By being a racing driver, you are under risks all of the time. By being a racing driver means, you are racing with other people and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver." -Ayrton Senna.
CONTEXT: Senna said that after he deliberately crashed into Prost at turn 1 Suzuka 1990, which he admitted later on that he did crash Prost on purpose. I am a Senna fan too, but don’t be an ignorant idiot.
The context of the statement is one thing to be addressed, and you did. However the magnitude of the feelings expressed in the statement, especially from one racer to another, is another thing entirely.
@@Alan.livingston exactly my stance too. From now on Lando shouldn't feel the need to protect Piastri anymore. By showing up he's got the killer instinct of a racer, he Cost the win for the entire team. No one is talking about the fact that Lando could've pushed him out but didn't. We don't fully know what's going on in McLaren's garage but this has to stop!
As soon as I saw Piastri pass, I could hear Peter Windsor screaming all the way from Australia. 😆 Look, if Lando is thrown off or rattled by a mildly aggressive overtake on Lap 1, he needs to toughen up. He has a rocketship, basically an RB19B, a tight pit crew and clever pit wall, and he keeps throwing away victories. Leclerc and Ferrari are very much in the hunt for P2 in the drivers and even P1 in the Constructors. Leclerc is only 22 points behind Norris in the drivers. I think all of this will probably end up saving Max's championship. It's hard to see how much worse Red Bull can get right now, and with Baku and Singapore coming up, I'm not expecting wins there either. Max just needs to put the points in week by week with the speed he has, and I think by the time he gets to Texas, Mexico and Brazil he'll be well on his way to securing his fourth championship.
Congratulations to Charles and Ferrari. A very emotional day for them indeed. This is the best season in years with 7 different winners so far. This is what racing is all about! Team orders degrade the sport in my opinion. No one wants to see a driver pull aside for a team mate and provide a hollow victory. Let them race. An outstanding overtake by Piastri in my opinion. He is only in his second season and he is giving Lando a run for his money. If Lando wants to be WDC he needs to earn it. Mercedes let Hamilton and Rosberg race and the sport was all the better for it.
Exactly! Everyone used to hate teams orders. Some of the best seasons have been between teammates fighting for the title. Let them race! The last years Redbull situation, Mercedes “it’s James period” or Schumachers Ferrari period was boring because they had best car and no opposition from their teammates! Props to Mclaren for letting them race.
I think Norris can start worrying cos Piastri is coming for him. not saying that Norris is not good, but Piastri is getting closer and closer; great as they'll push each other
The real problem with Lando's starts is that he is leaving the racing line and moving right onto the dirty line to try and intimidate the car that starts in P2. If you get a chance, I suggest re-watching the starts at Barcelona, Hungry and now Monza. Its now an established pattern. Each time, Lando gives up the advantage of being on pole. He moves to the dirty side and he hands up the racing line (where there is more grip). He consistently invites the sweeping move for the car in P3. So, Oscar saw that the racing line had been left open by Lando. Rather than leave it to George, he moves over to where Lando should have been and suddenly George is bailing out in search of the escape road. Having just sheltered Lando from yet another swooping move and seen George off into the weeds, Oscar then passes Lando for the lead. -> this is legendary stuff... and yet so many of the British commentators are having a winge and whine about the absence of team orders from McLaren...sheesh
Grandissimo Charles! He said after that he got the feel back after qualifying and could rotate the car as he wanted. Masterful, aggressive, strategic and quick quick quick. Oscar went quickly mid race as he did not want Lando anywhere near him and then the suits thinking about swapping. Tough racer. I was very emotionally invested in this great win. Magic. Forza Charles!
Yes, the mistake that McLaren/Oscar made was to not check the lap times, when Oscar came in for the second time he was lapping slightly faster than Charles, they asked Oscar if he wanted to change tires and he said yes, because he could feel some degradation, but it wasn't reflected in his lap times compared to Charles, they should have waited and watched to see if the lap times were getting worse, instead of coming in when they did.
i think lando has to send a huge one on oscar next time to show that hes not afraid either because at this point oscar has the upper hand in terms of the mental game and knows 9/10 times him sending it on lando would leave him in front and doesnt have to worry about him defending
Spot on analysis yet again, couldn’t agree more Peter that Norris needs to toughen up. Oscar has shown his muscles yet again….let’s see how Baku will play out
Agreed, people always complain, or used to, about how boring F1 is, and it WAS when Lewis was dominating. Now we've got some drama and a some dirty deeds and some villains and heroes and passions rising, it's a great thing, it's what F1 needs, let's just appreciate that instead of grumbling about things not going to a perfect plan.
@@lastmanstanding9389 Nonsense, there was, arguably even more drama in those days, not so much among the Drivers, but the fact that it was so genuinely dangerous. One mistake, and there was a high possibility of injury and even death, adds a whole level of drama. This gave the whole show a gladiatorial nature, Spectators and Fans loved that aspect, the Drivers were genuinely brave, doesn't get more dramatic than that. If you think that a large proportion of Fans, in those days, were simply enamoured by watching Gentlemen racers plodding around, you are missing the whole point.
Prost and Senna had great battles when they McLaren teammates, why can’t Oscar and Lando have great battles as well? Oscar is especially good at overtaking in the first 4 laps, especially on lap 1. Oscar seems to be better at getting his up to speed and overtaking. Oscar is also usually aggressive on the starts and will go for gaps. What I’m seeing is, what makes Lando good at qualifying doesn’t help in the close battles and what puts Oscar slightly behind Lando in qualifying significantly helps in the race. It’s called braking. Peter has identified that Oscar is either always on the brake or on the throttle, where sometimes Lando just glides around the corner. In the race itself, Oscar can out brake Lando.
1. Why should Oscar not overtake Lando on first lap? 2. Amazing drive by Leclerc. I just still hope Liberty Media is not controlling the winners. Home races are being won by home favourites.
Brits always call them a “bad guy” for making a “risky move” for making a solid racing move unless it’s a Brit. If it’s a Brit, then they’re “brave” and “skilled”. Even the most objective and respected of independent Brit’s subtly do this. It’s quite tiresome honestly.
Piastri is a racing driver who goes for gaps and makes them stick. Ferrari rolled the dice and had a win, everybody is an expert after the event. If he had taken two stops he would have been 20 seconds off the lead.
I'm not really a Norris fan but after Zandvoort it seems even more nonsensical from McLaren this weekend not to favour Norris given that he could legitimately win this championship given how many places ahead of Max he has the potential to finish each race going forwards. They legitimately can take both championships if they play their cards right, today it seemed like they shot themselves in the foot.
Agreed. If they think Piastri can still win WDC they should say that. Now they say they have two number one drivers while one of them currently has a good shot at WDC. If you then want to win WCC and WDC you prioritize 1-2 finishes and don't let them race! You keep the order or fix the order to optimize WCC AND WDC. Now McLaren missed out on 10 points for WCC all at the expense of Lando's WDC. Very dumb.
I think it's still too early to push out teamorders regularly. They're going to do that in the last few races, where every point counts, but not at this stage when nothing is certain yet.
@@3TimesFaster What you are implying (probably not consciously, but you haven't thought about it enough) is that Piastri can bridge a 106-44 point gap to Max and Lando??? because that is what is not certain then right? If McLaren execute normally they win the WCC (Perez is just too shit to contribute to RBR's WCC). So what is left is the WDC. And Lando is in great shape to win it if the team is behind him, because in this case backing Norris, who qualifies better and over a whole race has better pace and tyre management, is optimal for the WCC as well. Every point counts in all the races, and McLaren missed out on 10 points today, all at the expense of Lando's WDC.
Seems like McLaren, even with what is currently the best car, are essentially relying on either an absolutely massive pace differential or for another team to make some sort of slight error. And yea, PW (& even people like Nico Rosberg) are right in saying McLaren really needs to clamp down on the drivers. I don’t fault Oscar for doing what he did & Lando was smart to not risk DNFing both of them, but if they are really fighting then that needs to be agreed upon (even if it is tacitly). If this is kosher than I’m sure Lando is annoyed that he gave up the W in Hungary.
It's gonna explode between both mclaren drivers, i can see Ferrari winning the constructors and Max winning the drivers. Ferrari should be strong in Baku and Singapore.
What's going on with the commentators and spectators bemoaning oscar for his overtake on Lando? F1 drivers are there to win, period. They're not there to help their teammate. Every world champion is aggressive, gets their elbows out and will take the win. Max, Lewis, Seb, Alonso. Do you think any of those drivers are gonna give their team mate the win? Oscar is world champion material. Yes, Lando has the edge in raw speed at the moment, but, that gap is closing, and closing fast.
Exactly! The best recent years in F1 were the "silver war" Lewis & Nico era of 2014-16 & Lewis & Max 2021. Isn't this what we want??? Or do we want more Lewis & "Valterri, it's James" & Max & Checo shows????
The reason all the pundits and media are giving out is because Lando is British sad but true😢. For 3 seasons now they have slated Redbull over checo and max often saying team orders should be band...Now it's a British driver it's changed 😅
Looking back at Budapest, listening to Lando's engineer on the radio saying: "You are gonna need Oscar and the team to fight for this Championship, let him by", I just can't help thinking McLaren are lacking any kind of common sense, they are inevitably on their way to throwing away the driver's Championship. That move from Piastri at Hungary squeezing Norris to the outside almost causing a colision with Max, who had to go off the track and today Oscar going for an overtake on Lando on the outside of turn 4 at the absolute límit is just too much for Norris to take. Red Bull must be incredibly thankful to McLaren for the decisions they've been making in the last couple of months.
That radio was just to finally break him. A broken horse will forever be broken. There's still time for Lando to turn into the real Dark Lando, but he has little time to do it. PS: I know who's going to Red Bull if Max moves to Mercedes. ;)

The missing context is that McLaren is a team that should prioritize WCC and WDC. Something is preventing/limiting them acting like that. Is it Piastri's contract? Is it Zak Brown's arrogance towards Lando? Is it Zak prioritizing Piastri bc he has more future? That is the proper context of managing an F1 team. Not the sideshow of what happens and/or is allowed in lap 1. That are the racing regulations applied to any driver, not how managers run F1 teams. The "letting them race" and "Papaya rules" are hilarious in the context of actually properly managing an F1 team.
@@wreagfe You forget that Webber is Oscars manager and having experience with being a second driver, made probably sure that Oscars contract has clauses against it. If Lando wants to be WDC he has to beat his teammate as well at this point. Of course in the last 2-3 races, if Lando is in reach of the WDC they will start to pack out the team orders. But with so many races and sprints still left, it's too early for that.
@fincarosa No one is slowing down at lap 1? Well lando had to break in the middle of the chicane because of oscar. With that move the double win was lost.
Lando has the speed to be a world champion but not the head. You can hear it in his voice in the radio transmissions. He almost resigns to defeat in some situations
You say that Lando should have won the Hungarian GP because he was clearly faster than Oscar, but with that logic shouldn't Oscar always be going for the overtake on Lando to prove he is faster. Lando showing immaturity compared to Oscar this season.
Nah,Lando has to take a huge chunk of the blame. Can you imagine Max having that McLaren rocketship for the past 6 races and only winning 1 race whilst starting on pole for the majority of them.
@@StringerBellz cuz Redbull will let Max through when Checo is in front of him. Instead Mclaren played this dumb "two number 1 drivers" mentality. Unless your car is as dominant as 2014-2016 Mercedes, that aint gonna work
@@naufalkusumah2192 if Max is starting 7 races on pole like Lando has, you honestly think Checo will be anywhere near him? The problem for Lando isn't the team, it's the fact that Oscar is actually a damn good driver and once settled, Lando will find it tough to beat him. Lando is just showing he's not in the same class as a Lewis , Max or Charles just like Peter said in this video. How are you winning only 1 race out of 6 with the fastest car when you're also starting on pole, stop trying to scapegoat Oscar for Landos weaknesses.
@@StringerBellz Okay then, lets use your logic to make an example. Redbull purposely pair Max with Checo who inherently slower than him, so the driver hierarchy can be defined more easily. Lets say Max is paired with Charles, then they are both going to take each others points in championship battle, the same as Norris and Piastri currently. With the competitions so close, the team must priorities one of the driver to win the championship, the one who is closer to the top (which is Norris now). As Peter said, this has happened before, during 2007 season where Alonso and Hamilton were so close in pace, and they battled each other surrendering the drivers championship to Raikkonen. It doesnt matter if Norris isnt as fast as Max or Charles, cuz the team should cover him in championship battle, the one that he's currently the highest in standings out of the two Mclaren drivers.

I’m really becoming an Oscar Piastri fan, a real throw back to the 1970s and 1980s when F1 drivers were real men.
He is everything Norris is not. Piastri doesn’t just let another driver go by without a fight, like Lando does with Max.
@@Duuuval23Oscar already knows from watching him against Max that he’s easy to walk over.
Exactly. Peter, seems to think Lando is no 1. He's not. Max has his number and Oscar has his number. He's mentally weak.
Exaclty. He only leads Oscar by 44pts. It’s ridiculous to assume Oscar would assume #2 with 8 races to go.
It would leave him marked forever.
@@youbetu18 Exactly, I think most people actually had forgotten Oscar is not that far behind to Lando in points, and Lando’s championship fight means nothing to Oscar, because as a race car driver he’s here to make a statement, quite literally, to tell his team who’s the boss here.

People aren’t talking about the fact Lando could have let Piastri go and then one stopped him, exactly like Ferrari did. But no, he chased Piastri.

Thanks Peter !! What a great analysis. I only just found your channel and appreciate the logic and technical stuff.
Oscar is the future. Such fearlessnes at such a young age. Incredible.
Short corners helps.
When u have nothing to lose and know there is a softie of team orders in front
snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again by the mclaren team 👏👏👏superb job
Out-strategised by... Checks notes... Ferrari...
@LisztyLiszt LOL. Ferrari done good for once. At the Italian GP too. Makes this one a classic...
😂😂😂😂
Splendid evaluation as usual.
As soon as I saw Piastri pass, I could hear Peter Windsor screaming all the way from Australia. 😆
Look, if Lando is thrown off or rattled by a mildly aggressive overtake on Lap 1, he needs to toughen up.
Zac now knows he has a killer driver who wants to win. Championships are earned not given, Hope McLaren keep it racing, because that is what racers do
I think Norris can start worrying cos Piastri is coming for him. not saying that Norris is not good, but Piastri is getting closer and closer; great as they'll push each other
I was very impressed with Franco Colapinto in the Williams.
Oscar is the man at mclaren!
Massive congrats to Charles - that result will be good for the whole of Italy. :)
A little tear-eyed myself,couldn’t have been a better outcome.Monaco and Monza!
McLaren needs to send team orders to Redbull, Mercedes, and everyone else who keeps driving around Lando on lap1
Sainz held up Oscar for a lap at a time where it seemed to matter. In the end Charles seems to have had the pace to win all along.
@@SaintKimboor they should have pitted 2-3 laps earlier, and he would catch him, but they waited too long
Thank you Mr Windsor 🏁🏎️
i think lando has to send a huge one on oscar next time to show that hes not afraid either because at this point oscar has the upper hand in terms of the mental game and knows 9/10 times him sending it on lando would leave him in front and doesnt have to worry about him defending
The problem is Lando doesn't have the temporament to make a move like that without binning it.
Spot on analysis yet again, couldn’t agree more Peter that Norris needs to toughen up. Oscar has shown his muscles yet again….let’s see how Baku will play out
Baku: Lando pole, however loses it to Piastri on long straight at the end of lap 1.
Incredible race, what a win for charles and what a fumble for mclaren
I can't think of another strategy McLaren could have used to muck up that race more than they did.
Should've done a 1-stopper?
Even an earlier two stoper for Oscar would be enough, not waiting 14 laps till the end, two laps earlier and he would catch Charles
Brilliant comnentary Peter!
Peter, They went racing....
@@SaintKimbo rubbish, just look at the Jim Clark era, no drama, all driverrs were friends, no egos .

Nonsense, there was, arguably even more drama in those days, not so much among the Drivers, but the fact that it was so genuinely dangerous.

Woody Russell is not the Tire whisper, but the Tire Eater 😅
I like to call him the Moon Man on the account of his chin looking like the Moon Man mascot from McDonalds in the 1980s.
1. Why should Oscar not overtake Lando on first lap?
2. Amazing drive by Leclerc. I just still hope Liberty Media is not controlling the winners. Home races are being won by home favourites.
Because lando in Britain's 😂😂😂😂
I’m glad u mentioned that it’s not Oscar’s fault he’s just more hungry, u said urself lando is mentally week
Good for Pastri... God get sick of English bias, everyone bad, except if your a British driver.
100% and do they seriously not think they are it's very weird.
Leclerc sure knows how to make it count where and when it matters the most 💯
McLaren get criticism for applying team orders, and not applying team orders. Tough gig!
Lando said Max and Lewis had fastest cars that's why they were winning. Now Lando has the Fastest car and can't win....ohh the humanity 😅
100% agree 👍
Lando took the own wind out of his own sails.
Piastri is a racing driver who goes for gaps and makes them stick. Ferrari rolled the dice and had a win, everybody is an expert after the event. If he had taken two stops he would have been 20 seconds off the lead.
Superb analysis - as usual...
Not only today. Also requesting Lando to let Oscar pass to win the race. Stupid.
They let Lando loose 7 points in Hungary.
Very insightful…good video
Piastri's move into turn 4 was easily the best of the season proper racing between team mates, that is what real racing fans want to see.
Same said Alex Brundle about Charles driving, about brilliant offloading the tyres and temperature
Good to see Peter Windsor doesn’t have any favourite drivers that can’t do wrong 😂
No Peter is the poof piss and moan about teem orders and then piss and moan if they can race???
Oscar did perfectly right. Lando should have been more aware. I hate team orders. The move was good - Lando is an over entitled diva.
Love seeing Ferrari win in Italy❤️. 🇮🇹
What a result and what a season so far !
So you think that McClaren should have stopped Oscar from being a racing car driver?
PS: I know who's going to Red Bull if Max moves to Mercedes. ;)

Poor baby Lando..... shell shocked by being overtaken on lap 1, again. New F1 rule: when Lando gets pole, then for the first lap all drivers must drive in formation....because Lando DESERVES to win the drivers championship 🏆😅
Why are you leaving out context? You say drivers, I agree. But this was a driver from the same team. Papaya rules means we dongivafok about WDC, so your teammate can race you hard risking DNF.
@@wreagfeIf it were a later lap in the race and Oscar made that move on Lando in P1, then I would agree that Oscar shouldn't have done it
But on lap 1 it doesn't matter that it's driver from same team. No one is slowing down on lap 1 when everyone is bunched up and driving on instinct. It's pass or be passed. That's the context I think you're missing
@@fincarosa I'm saying you leave out context and then you provide outlandish "context" supporting your dig at Lando? Hilarious.
I hate team rules but I understand why they do it. Just let the best man win!
I'm happy for Charles and Ferrari..
Peter seems to think OP exists to support Lando. OP has finished ahead of Lando 3 out of the last 4 races because Lando hasn’t been good enough.
Charles optimizing optimally the last few races. Sadly Zak dongivafok about Lando's WDC. Max should thank Zak at the F1 gala if he wins his fourth.
