- Self-Publishing with Kindle Direct Pubplishing: Categories & Keywords Research // Last year I did a step by step tutorial on how to upload your book to Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. In that video I promised to do a full video tutorial on how to research categories and keywords for your book when self-publishing. Today I wanted to finally give you that tutorial and show you what I do to research categories and keywords for my books when I upload them to self-publish on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.

Nice and quite informative. Mt two books published on Amazon.
1. Frugality: Being Mindful of Your Expenses.
2. Nanu's stories for Amaaya
Happy Reading!
Great video, thank you for the in-depth view of Publisher Rocket, very helpful!
Good Informative research, Mandi! I am about to publish six books at the same time, over 3,300 pages and 1.3 million words. Suffice it to say I have been working for years on this project. Thanks.
How can I find your work?
Thank you, Mandi! This was super helpful.
This was more than helpful. Thanks alot appreciate ❤❤
Love your channel. It has been very helpful. I would like a video on copyrights. Thanks.
Very good tutorial about how to use this software. :) I've heard about it and intend to get it myself.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Mandy 🌎
Great info, Mandi. I have seen many videos on Keywords, most dealing with low content where you are trying to find a good opportunity to compete.
But what if you don't have Publisher Rocket?
So, regarding novels, Keywords with a low search number and good BSR could have many great reviews, 1000s, which would make it harder to compete.
Does the rule of having a low number of reviews apply that much to novels?
Say your Keywords have a search number of 61, 13 books on the first page with a < 100k BSR, but with 4 books over 10K reviews, 3 from 3K to 5K, and 6 under 1K.
My question is: Does the number of reviews matter that much for novels? After all, you are not trying to find a new niche to compete in; you are competing against the best in the Novel business.
Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!
After watching your video, it makes sense to get Publisher Rocket once I can afford it.
Thank you very much!!!
Jose

Such a great tool!
Well detailed. Thank you
This is so helpful. I hadn't even considered keyword searches for my title. My old title would have brought up history books along with it >_
Exactly! That's why doing the little extra research can be a game changer for how your book shows up on Amazon!
Thank you, Mandi. for your video presentation. My 12 eBooks are not represented in the 3 categories. I am a master's level rehabilitation counselor. My eBooks focus on empowering and enhancing the lives of individuals living with the impact of brain injuries. The only category representative of what speak about is Self-help, but not really? What can I do about this to get a more representative of the information that I write about MK? Thank you for your help. Have a super day. Craig
You mean it is possible to renew the categories and keywords after the book was published? Thanks!!!
❤. Great stuff!
Hello sir I saw your youtube channel and understand you are a TH-camr. Very nice video on your channel, I really enjoyed it. Total 27600+ subscribers and a Total of 200+ Upload videos of your channel. But I noticed one thing your channel has no subscribers and no video views. You need to optimize your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. If your channel is optimized a little and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow.
When I'm shopping for a particular title on amazon, a lot of books that AREN'T that book, but might be similar, pop up. Does this mean that we can use the titles of other books as keywords, or is that considered misleading? (Love your channel! I'm throwing myself into self publishing as hard as I used to throw myself into querying, and your videos are a huge help!)
Those books that you see are sponsored ads, so authors pay to have their book placed at the top of search for particular terms.
I wouldn't use titles of other books as keywords, as I think you may get in trouble from Amazon for that. You can however use titles of other books when you're doing paid ads on Amazon.
@@MandiLynnWrites Okay, thanks!

Hey Mandi, just curious if your keywords and categories for ebook paperback and hardback have to be the same or if you can make them different to see which performs better?
They can sometimes be similar, but I always choose based on data that I find in Publisher Rocket
I noticed that Amazon does not seem to like "Kindle Unlimited" in its keywords. (You had that in your examples.) Do you still use that?
do you upload the keywords before you upload the entire book to kdp?
I'm considering getting this (and I'll use your affiliate link) but do you know if they ever have sales? Like, Black Friday 20% off or something? I'd appreciate it if you let me know (if you know lol) if they ever do, I'd like to wait and save what little money I can
I think last year there was a Black Friday sale, but I think that's usually the only time it's on sale from what I can remember.
Does a poetry book should have keywords?
I'd recommend keywords for any book
It's not at all clear to me why you'd want categories where it's easier to hit #1 when, the easier it is to reach #1, the less sales there are. Isn't there a trade-off?
Not helpful When I save my Word document (manuscript) as a pdf, the format gets all messed up. Why?
Well this is a video on finding keywords and categories for your book. If you want to learn about formatting watch one of the many videos on my TH-cam channel
